  1. Hey all-

What do you guys use to remove scratches on the bezel of your fiddy's - or any other mirrored surface watch? I was considering using cape cod, but I'm pretty sure it wont leave me with a mirror finish afterwards.

Learned the hard way that trying to stuff my fiddy + gunny under my cuff w/ cufflinks is a bad bad bad idea. I also have hairline scratches near the crown from regular winding that I'd like to remove as well.

    Thanks!

  2. thanks for the responses.

I've done a bunch of research throughout the day and I'll be attempting a movement swap. I had ordered the 2813 28.8k on a whim last week. Perhaps the 2813 inside the watch knew something was up and decided to quit.

Anyways, I believe the second hand is sticking to the one of the other hands. Whenever it stops, it happens to stop right when it crosses another hand.

While I wait for my new movement to arrive, I'll open her up and see if I cant fiddle around with the secondhand.

  3. Hey all,

Wondering if anyone knows of an easy fixfor my new (3 week old) DSSD V.3 Lite - 21J.

I havent dunked it in water, it may have had a few drops of water on the crystal from washing my hands, but that's about it. There's no condensation forming inside the crystal so I dont believe water damage is the culprit here.

My watch is beginning to lose time and the second hand stops ticking randomly. I had thought it was it was due to the crown being screwed in too tightly, because I noticed that the minute I touched the crown the watch began ticking again. So I backed my crown out a half turn and it the second hand still stops randomly.

The last time I noticed this it was 10:30am, it's now 11:43am (according to my PC's clock), but my watch says it's 11:30am which leads me to believe that my watch is still stopping.

Any easy fixes? oil the movement? or is my 21J a dud?

I've ordered a 2813 high beat that should be here sometime next week, but I'd like for this watch to continue working till then because I just received a nato strap and I'm love with it!

    Thanks!

    Brian

  4. I painted mine with the silver metallic paint last night. It's actually called 'platinum'. I didnt get the pop I wouldve achieved with white paint, but instead of using white, I have decided not to mess with it anymore. I did not like the way the paint around the pearl turned out and I know that white would accentuate the DIY-ness of it more.

  5. Since this topic has strayed from pearl and paint to lume, I've decided to post my lume comparo shot.

Starting from left to right is my gen speedmaster, gen seamaster GMT, and the DSSD v.3 all under a blacklight. The DSSD didnt shine nearly as bright as I hoped it would.. also, my speedie is over 10 years old and it still shines brightly. But check out the GMT, wow!

  6. I went to my local craft store to pick up some supplies to do the v3 to v4 conversion as well as some leather tools. Got everything I needed, but they didnt have any testors flat white paint so I picked up some light metallic silver acrylic paint that looks a lot like the a bit brighter than the silver on my v3, and definitely not as white as like the one in geo's tutorial.

I'll take pics tonight before and after. I wouldve done it here at work, but didnt think that cracking open a bottle of nail polish remover here would be the best of ideas.

  7. hey all

Received a beautiful dssd v.3 from josh yesterday and I'd like to do two simple mods.

The first is to fix/replace the pearl as it hangs a bit to the right :p. I was thinking about picking up a WM dot, but the pearls do not look similiar at all. The DSSD pearl sits up and you can clearly see the curvature of the pearl. The dot from WM looks more like the SSD pearl which is more recessed.

Where can I find a replacement pearl or inlay for the DSSD? If there arent any, I'll try to fix it, but unsure how to go about it. How do I get the pearl out? Once out, I guess I can use a file or blade to cut the insert a tad then try to epoxy the pearl back into place. How is it mounted? and what is the best way to get the pearl out w/o damaging the insert?

The second thing I want to do is to paint the numbers and markers as they look a bit thin to me. What brand/color paint have people been using to achieve this? It's almost a titanium color.. I did find a thread over on rg, but the paint he used is not available here in the states.

    Thanks!!

  8. hey All-

    I love watches.

Being from NYC, I've had the displeasure of being surrounded by really poor knock offs - so bad that I wouldnt even dare to call them 'replicas'. Alas, this exposure to poor products had made me stay away from replicas in general.. until last week when I laid my eyes and hands on a friends DSN Fiddy. Before this I would've never considered a replica, and therefore I've always saved the funds to buy genuine models. As rewarding as a genuine is, I've always wanted more. Anyhow, I've realized that I was severely limiting my hobby by not considering quality replicas - like the ones offered here and so I stand here today, a new member.

I love watches, and I've come to the realization that I've been paying too damn much for them!!

    Best regards,

    brian
