  1. My opinion is that it is the low-cost (Asian 21J) 104 that Joshua was selling a couple of years ago, with a bracelet applied.

That version had exactly that same brushed case and polished bezel, same crown, lever, and dial. I got it and I still have it: if I remove the improved crown put on it, and I apply a bracelet, I end up with exactly that same watch.

Btw, it is not a gen 104 or 220 dial as in the gen the numbers and markers are placed farer from the border, nearer to the center of the dial.

Also, it is not a 050 as the 050 has no marker @ 9Hr.

    Maybe your friend got scammed?

  2. The movements in the 048/049/050/051 rep are Asian 7750 from year 2005 or 2006. At that time getting a good 7750 was a matter of [pretty] good luck.

But, as on the 048/049/050/051 the 7750 is used with no chrono functions, chances are 99.9% that a good servicing will fix it. Then it should work smoothly for years. If you get it serviced again each couple of years, even better.

If The Zigmeister does not reply you, you may want to consider rex450 from RepGeek.

Unfortunately, AFAIK no modder or watchsmith is willing to work on case parts like the crown guard. You will have to fix it by yourself. I'll now assume that you have a "floppy lever in closed position" problem, that is completely different (and nastier) from the "floppy lever in open position" problem.

An easy but less-than-perfect fix is just by adding a gasket as you said.

This works only if the room between the crown and the lever is very thin, and it will also leave you with a crown slightly too far from the case.

The best fix is by carefully filing down the CG feet.

  3. @ sssurfer- I have no idea how you came up with that but thank you for your expertise!

For the rep, I just measured the cyclops on my 050 rep.

For the gen, I measured any good 048 and 050 pics I have here. I mean, measuring the case diameter in pixels, then the cyclops diameter in pixels as well, then putting them in proportion as we know that the case is 40mm.

Then taking the mean of the different calculations on the different pics.

Not an absolutely precise method, still decent to get a hint after a few pics.

Also, please consider that even Officine Panerai changed the size of their cyclops while time passed, making them larger on the later series. It is very possible that a late 050 may have a 6mm cyclops.

Should I assume standard 7750 PAM DW and Font?

I do not know nor see any reason why you shouldn't.

I'm trying to put together the ultimate 50 for the wifey. :D

Congrats, and best wishes on your project!

  4. the lite version also has a screw down crown, which is not the same as the gen (or the regular rep version)

Untrue. My Lite Black Magic have pushin crown (so other model) I think only the 21k movement version had screw. The other 28.8k have pushin.

My 21k version has push in crown.

I think that Sql_pl is right and there are so many versions out there that no tracing a line is possible.

  5. I have an idea for taking shots head-on though........

Maybe a polarizing filter, but don't try and put an AR coated crystal over another AR coated crystal! It simply doesn't work.

I tried a double AR crystal on another double AR crystal, and reflections came back even worse. I suppose this is due to messing with the phase interference mechanism. :g:

  6. Absolute beauty!

With the double AR the dial seems coming out of the bezel. It is perfect on a complex dial with lot of small white details like that.

    Congrats, B, wear it well!

On the next one are we going to read "Chieftang-installed Chieftang A-D cyclops w/ D.A.R."? ;)

  7. Ok, I tested the minifiddy dial in two 44mm luminor cases.

It fitted in one (a 005 case), but not in the other one (a 111 case).

So I suppose it's a matter of good or bad luck. Luminor rep cases are all but standard.

In case you are curious, I took measures about the diameter of a few types of dials:

    Minifiddy: 36.10mm

    45mm case radiomir:

    PAM 183: 35.6mm

    PAM 287: 36.0mm

    44mm case luminor:

    JimmyFu's PAM 111: 34.0mm

    Joshua's Asian 21J PAM 104: 34.4 - 34.5mm (two different models)

    Unnamed Asian 21J luminor: 34.5mm

    Joshua's PAM 090 (Seagull movement): 34.5mm

PAM 140 (Seagull movement as well): 35.3mm

I also have a few DSN dials of auto luminor that I still have to measure.

So it looks that jerkulot is right. Dials for 45mm radiomir are about 36mm diameter, dials for 44mm luminor are about 34.5mm diameter, and the minifiddy dial is close to the radiomirs.
