  1. Mahalo for the news release lanikai. So do you live in Kailua? If you do a bit of a search, you will see many posts relating to Sly Stallone and his involvement with Panerai, it is an often told tale around here.

i am sure everyone knows the trivia ... thought i would post it anyway ... he came to the old world gym when we were on the Ala Wai ... he is like 5'3" amazing what camera angles can do ... i am at Lanikai juice or morning brew every morning .. been a member since last year but never took time to check out the threads... burnt out on watching dvd's ....

  2. OP History ... no sh_t

    year.. 1995

A special edition of watches is created. Sly is the nickname of actor Syvester Stallone, A great admirer of the watch, who had requested a special edition called Submersible to use during the shooting of the movie Daylight. Subsequently, Stallone requested an edition with a white dial, named Daylight, and a personalized re-edition of the Mare Nostrum. All of these watches bear the actor's signiture engraqved on the back....

  3. Can't tell if it's 44mm or 47mm...I'd suspect Sly to not have the biggest of wrists. ;)

came to Hawaii years ago and worked out one day at World gym .... he is actually like 5 ft. 3 or 4 inches ... amazing what camera angles will do

  4. I saw in a newspapaer today an article half ridiculing, half praising Stalone for doing another Rambo film. One of the photos, showed him (presumeably on set) with a Panerai strapped to his left wrist. It was a black and white photo, and pretty grainy, so no idea as to dial or strap details, but the D-Shape of the crown guard was unmistakeable. The watch was definitely black (so PVD) and on 'a black strap' (could've been fabric, leather or rubber but impossible to tell) Has anyone else got any info on this watch, or is this an exclusive announcement?

Stallone was one of the first if not the first in Hole Wood to wear Panerai's
  6. Sooo, I decided to do a little experiment with my Ti/SS 192 rep. I had read about how mixing oxiclean and hot water and throwing a Ti watch in will oxidize the TI and give it a dark grey with blue look.

I wasn't sure about the water resistance of the 192, and how it would handle being submerged in a chemical bath, so I opened it up, and removed the Venus movement and dial from the case.

I put some oxiclean in one of my pots, stirred in some water, heated it on my stove on low heat, and tossed in the case and bracelet from the 192.

When it came out I really didn't like the blue-ish tint on the Ti parts of the watch, so very lightly wiped it down with a cape cod polishing cloth (barely touching it up), and the blue went away.

Lucky for me the Ti stayed a much darker grey than it originally was, creating a very strong contrast between the Ti and the SS parts of the watch, VERY COOL. Oh yeah, there's one other thing that happened, see if you can spot it. Here's the watch as it is now, re-assembled:

Yes, as you can see the tachymetre markings around the inner bezel came off. I didn't realize they were part of the case and not part of the dial, so when I put it in the chemical bath, the oxiclean stripped it right off. Now it's less accurate to the original, but the funny thing is that I like the new look much better, cleaner and less busy. I think the new overall look is pretty badass.

that's really col ..iwas wondering today how to get the metal oxidized ... oxi clean is supposed to supply more oxigenated carbonation to regular soap.. wonder what other chemical can be used just by applying with a brush .. wonder if oxiclean will work by just brushing it on after boiling it... maybe i will try that with a ti watch i have that i was going to change the movement on .. sure looks like the genuine TI ... great job...
  7. How acceptable would the watch be without any modifications? I want to keep costs as low as possible so I will also be sticking with the stock strap and mineral glass. Although I might splurge on the sapphire....
yeh ... pubus is right,... i ran into a doctor at a juice bar and he had on a gen. titanium 199 submersible ... i had the 127 fiddy on and he didn't know what it was (model)...and he said he was a collector ... i said i was too LOL. ... did not tell him a collector of REPS ... plus he said he got it for only 2000 usd .... said he has a contact in LA Beverly Hills ...gotta find out where cause he was wearing the 2004 commemorative edition titanium submersible ... it was Genuine .. or his guy has really good date wheels... HA,HA
  8. They have. Look at new 199 and Arktos with correct date font and magnification. They are doing it in the context of reruns of older models and new ones coming out. They are also adding a mediocre AR coat.

yeh .... i got a 199 on the way ... but there are some models where if there was the correct font on the date wheel it would look .... OUTSTANDING ... THERE SUPPOSED TO BE MORE "PROJECTS IN THE WORKS"

  9. I share your same thoughts about the date, but it looks sort of a holy grail.

Finepics and Lello provided some datewheels for the 2893, 2892-A2, and 7750, and archibald is working on other models.

Finepics is currently MIA (best wishes to you, if you ever read this, Finepics!)

Lello is currently also studying the 090 asian movement, whichever it is.

The date font is only half solution to the date issue. The other half is the cyclops.

There has been a batch of 6mm sapphire cyclopses here, especially fitted on old 2893 models.

Another batch, of 6.75mm sapphire cyclopses (therefore especially fitted on more recent models, E series and onward) is still available from Chieftang.

Here's a pic of my 028A with both new datewheel (Finepics') and cyclops (self-made):

thanks for the reply ... is finepics a member .. i never ran into him on the dealer boardand yes the mag is also way off ... but for now i would be happy with the datewheel with somewhat more acceptable font.... you would think that the makers would put a little more effort into this area ... it is such a glaring "flaw" ... i know we are talking about reps here but i wouldn't be wearing it if it looked like an obvious "fake"... i generally like other colour straps with PVD's but the gator you have on is a nice contrast ... not just black on black ...

  10. anyone have any contacts for date wheels ... ETA or whatever movements .. after viewing the genuines and then looking at the fonts on the Reps. i really want to get something at least close to the right font... fat like the font on the page numbers of sports illustrated... if anyone can lead me to these i would really appreciate it. :victory:

  11. what we need to remember is .. and I do mean we because we all at risk.. the dealers more so...we need to protect our sources...I choose to do business with the dealers.. I am not coerced in any way to buy reps.. many of the dealers live in country's where penalties are huge... and if someone is going to "rat" because they are acting like a spoiled child..one stupid act could have everyones pay pal account pulled....i was in a situation where customs agents knocked on my door for something entirely different, (product) they wanted names and threatened jail and what not.... they didn't get anything because it was my decision to do what I did .. my friends where never mentioned... problems need to be kept in house..solutions can be forth coming.... I do business with people I trust and hopefully trust me, remember we are by law in a business that is illegal in some way... we are not out to rip anyone off or profit by reselling the reps.. this is for personal satisfaction..so to the person who gave Andrew undue stress.. if that's what brings you satisfaction then remember you are acting illegally also.. i belong to other forums not watch related and never have posted any comments because opinions sometimes are like assholes and I don't need someone talking trash over the net... cowardly is the only word that comes to mind.. but I feel compelled to do this because we would all suffer.. sometimes you need to bite the bullet for the good of everyone else... bottom line I was alway's taught...
