  1. The 40 looks off to me. Also the pearl looks terrible. Notice the numbers and how square, thin and crisp they are.  And the pearl is not a big dome plastic thing.....

Here is my Gen insert from Rolex in package when new:

Welcome back you old codger!   :clap2:

You want nostalgia?  Late one night in 2003 or 2004 I was checking the forum and Halley popped up on PM.  Remember him?  He had just got a teaser from some guy named David that just created a new account, and wondered if we'd be interested in some 19mm Daytona reps.  Halley said sure, send me some pics.  David did, and Halley sent these to me right away... the very first "DW Daytonas" to appear on a forum anywhere.  Me and Halley ordered the first 5 watches DW sold.

Boy, were we jazzed.  The rep world hadn't seen anything like this before.  And the rest, as they say, is history.

Damn, another 3 reps I wish I still had.

BTW, Sweet Caroline had hip surgery yesterday and is home resting. Long recovery and rehab ahead. When I had watches lying all over the place back in the day, Caroline loved to turn the bezel on my subs(Modern). She thought the sound and feel was just the coolest. She of course was and is right, so cool.

    Agreed. Cheers to Ubi

    Here’s some nostalgia.

Pictured below is the first 7750 discussed on any of our forums. Received in the first week Honpo made avail & before he would send to US. This is the one Rob used to do his famous “WTF is this? ... tear down evaluation” post (TRC maybe?) he did a second post alongside my PP 5070 with what we used to call the Lemanina (sp on purpose) ....

That was Rob’s posting where he elevated the risk in the power transfer on the 7750, the lack of jewels in some pivots, and the poor engineering on the top-hold on the clickspring... this moment was a least a year prior to the shift of the seconds on subsequent 7750 mfg .... so the dial seconds doesn’t match the movement’s sub registers. That’s the post we here Rob either proclaimed or confirmed that the 5070 was actually a Venus.... and he made the analogy that “the 7750 is like a workhorse Ford and the Venus is finicky like a Ferrari”

The second is one of Trusty’s prototypes from when he was just a poster like us.... he offered this one up and another prototype from his personal collection to raise funds to start his commercial operations. 2007 maybe??? I didnt need the watch but I figured I would help him out

Neither of these guys have much value other than sentimental, since reps have long since passed them by.... but I wear them often and in fact I get a LOT of compliments on the Pam still

    Enjoy

Thank breakdown was incredible. The lengths we went to to get those movements to kinda work was incredible. I remember the watches Trusty would put out. Now, I don't know what to buy or honestly " who has the best sub" 🙂

Good to hear about Maria.... who was the other expat that took the amazing pics? The one the got in the ugly pissing contest with Maria? I remember laughing at their manhood-questioning-insults.

The gent I’m thinking about passed I believe

RBJ is another that I think may have passed.

Those were epic battles. Sad to hear that we have lost some of the originals......all the more reason I wanted to at least reach out to whomever is still around just so we can stay in touch.

I don’t even remember when I got here. Long ago such that I remember translating the German forums when it was all we had, dealing with Maria directly, and buying round 1 of the David mystery movement. 17 years?

Every now and then I find some nostalgic part still in an envelope that I never mounted. Like Randy’s sub dots... or a handwritten from The Zigmeister. A lello something or another, and even some of Enzo’s and Torbys things before they went honest

I stopped posting around 2010 other than a sale or so. But doing well. Still have about a dozen reps. Went homage for awhile, then Gen. Still in Texas, still in healthcare, and I still browse the forum once a week or so

My last purchase, and me & my last grandkid

    DtC,

thanks for checking in and thank you for your work in healthcare.....stay safe.  What a beautiful baby and wonderful watch..Ubi would be proud 🙂 Those parts and names you mentioned absolutely sparked my old brain. Man what a wonderful emerging hobby we enjoyed. I really don't think some of the newbies really appreciated the research, talent and know how it took to create some of the most accurate reps ever. Now it seems out of the box reps are pretty damn good and the movements have improved as well.

Blessings to you and your family and don't be a stranger,

  5. Trust me when I tell you you’re in good company. We all have our obsessions and places we go when life kicks us in the teeth.

Women, well....let’s just say they take a lot of work attention love and respect. Watches are easy, the soft ticking of a well regulated timepiece, the sexy curves of a expertly modded case and those Lugs!!!!!!

yup, watches have scratched my itch for many years.

good luck to you. Just know this family here, will always love ya, understand ya and feed your watch obsession. 😎

When Rolojack would post pictures of his builds, he would describe machining the case to make it thinner and opening the dial window. This might be why the rehaut looks different from a stock MBW.

Well, Mattjames84's case may be a cartel case. Here is a Rolojack pictorial about making a pointed crown guard 5513. It looks to be op's watch in the making. At least the hour hand seems to be the same.

So it seems...OP, Compare the bezel sent to you with the pics in the referenced post.

Yeah so I definately paid a bit much for mine I guess

Not saying that. MBW cases are rare and hard to find. They do command higher $$$. The Vietnamese(NDT Trading) cases (I accidentally referenced singapore) are more accurate when it comes to accepting Genuine Rolex parts. The MBW's were as close as we had way back in the day.

I'm just not sure what you have is an MBW case, but it doesn't mean that you wasted any money. The bezel, dial, CG's hands and bracelet are really what will make the difference. Must people (99.9%) would never know the rehaut or even CG's were off unless it was clownishly bad 🙂

  8. MBW shouldn't need glue at base of crystal. The crystal should be snug and the ring compresses the base of the crystal to waterproof it.

Gotta say, the rehaut of that case looks a bit bigger and more slope than my MBW.

Don’t meant the new retainer OP ordered, I meant the old one the bezel falls off from.

Would make no sense if he‘d punch the new one wider lol

I understand. However, ruining the ring he has makes no sense. I would check with the original seller to see if perhaps he sent the wrong bezel or ring. The cheap subs have a smaller ring and the bezel is very this. It is possibke to have mixed them up as the two would not work together.

    U could try this:

Take the retainer and put it on a hard/ even surface. Get a hammer and a screwdriver ( - ).

Place the screwdriver on the part of the retainer where the friction washer sits (see pic).

Give it a slightly punsh with the hammer, that it makes a small groove in the retainer. Do that on the other site too.

Now put the friction washer back on and press the bezel on the retainer.

U should feel that it clips tighter then before, if not, give it one more punsh with the hammer.

The reason why the bezel falls off is that the retainers outer diameter became too small for the bezel itself and has no more grip to hold it.

That’s what I did to a few bezel assembly’s to get them absolutely tight again (vietnam and cartel).

Edit: As english isn’t my first language here’s a pic which should explain what I mean lol

Would not recommend this. My guess is the seller possibly confused/mixed up a different bezel or ring. The whole sale outlet assembly will be just fine. The only question will be the crystal fit. If that is truly an MBW case, a gen crystal should work fine and the bezel assembly should work well.

Hey justasgood, heres everything I have, and these are everything off the watch, all the stuff I just ordered will probably be here sat, or mon. I also got a set of rep 580 end links off ebay.. the one on the bracelet now are bent up 382 links

    20200507_135616.jpg

Ok, so you are waiting on the wholesale outlet assembly. So that bezel just easily snaps on and off the ring with or without the tension washer?  Does the insert snap into the bezel easily?

Damn, wish I had it here in front of me. I hate to keep asking these questions

  12. 34 minutes ago, Mattjames84 said:

Yeah they both do, but that last pic of them put together is pretty much me just dropping it in place and pushing ever so slightly... unlike the last 5513 I had, when you popped the bezel off you actually had to use the tool and when it went back on you it wasnt coming off... this one all you need to use is your fingers with hardly any pressure

Oh my, I think the retaining ring is very slightly bent which would cause the problem

Even so, I think maybe the ring is worn and needs replacing, and now I need to find a t19 crystal, what do you guys recommend? Clarks?

    Clark’s is good.
