  1. Vac's in the U.S. http://www.rwgforum.com/forum/221-vacs-modification-shop/ and he does reluming...
  2. There probably were a lot of members who bailed when the switch happened and the search wasn't working, the links were dead, etc...maybe there should be some kind of bulk email sent out to members who haven't logged in recently...??? And big props to Admin for getting all that stuff back up and working, being in IT I can understand the amount of work that goes into something like this!
  3. As a noob, it is very intimidating to post here just from the fear of being ridiculed by asking a dumb question. But I've definitely asked my share of questions now, and I have never been ridiculed. So, from one noob to the others, it may seem intimidating to get started, but just do it, ask the dumb questions, as my teachers always said the only true dumb questions are the ones not asked...so ask already! Just don't ask who makes the Best Sub, from what I understand that is a little taboo
  4. Thanks Ubi! Your help has been invaluable thus far! Hopefully the bezel will be here next week!
  5. I am new here, but even I have noticed a drop in posts, I noticed it after the change to the new server, but I don't think it had anything to do with the drop. My guess is that it could be an end of summer thing. In my line of work, everything seems to slow substantially towards the end of summer...maybe the watch posting does too as everybody takes that last summer vacation and get back into the swing of things...
  6. I got it from ofrei.com and it was $136.
  7. Red- I use a Holux M-241 http://www.holux.com/JCore/en/products/products_content.jsp?pno=341 which is a stand-alone battery powered GPS Data Logger. All you do with it is turn it on, allow it to find a couple of satellites, and then turn on your camera and start shooting. It takes a reading of Latitude and Longitude and altitude every couple of seconds and time stamps it. Then when you're all done you turn off the camera and the GPS logger. Then when you import the pictures you hook the M-241 to your computer (either by bluetooth or via USB) and use either the supplied software on a PC or get a program called Houdahgeo http://www.houdah.com/houdahGeo/ and it will read the time stamp in the EXIF date and time of the picture and match that up with the Lat & Lon of the GPS, it then writes that coordinate back to the EXIF data on the image and saves it there. Then you can export that data to Google Earth, or with the Mac iPhoto and Aperture allows you to view where you took the picture on a Map. It does it through a really easy automated process. I attached some screenies to show you: I've also taken some more watch pictures, and I am definitely taking the really close ones about 6" from the watch...and I think they are in pretty good focus... http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/103839-going-franken/
  8. Inspired by Ubiquitous' post about creating a 4th Gen 42mm Planet Ocean Franken, I decided to start my own project, albeit on a smaller and possibly slower scale. I acquired the PO about a month ago and was pretty happy with it, except for the horrible pearl alignment, so for a quick fix I bought an after-market insert, not perfect but it'll hold me over until the one I ordered from OF comes in. Here is the 1st pic, you'll notice the slight gap between the insert and the bezel near the 6 o'clock position: The next thing that started bugging me was the clasp. Main problem with it was the clasp was really hard to close, second, the clasp extension was really poorly made. It was bent and didn't close "flush". So I decided to get it fixed, the rest of the bracelet was decent, and I did not have an extra $600 sitting in my pocket to buy a genuine bracelet, so, I decided to buy the Genuine Omega 1580/952 clasp and clasp links, and it is awesome! Closes perfectly and operates much more smoothly! Here are the pics:
  9. It is removable, and I think it takes regular dremel type bits, I am not sure about the last part as I don't have any dremel bits, but they look about the same size...
  10. It's from Harbor Freight...you can buy it online if you don't have one local..here is the link http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=43533 DB2
  11. Nice post! I've got that same Ryobi Grinder! Home Depot is my friend. I've also recently acquired one of these Mini/Desktop Grinder/Polishers from Harbor Freight: It's variable speed and small enough to fit easily on a desk. I recently used it and a refinishing pad to give my GMT IIc bracelet a fully brushed look, it was a little too flashy for me with the polished center links. Here it is with the fully "brushed" bracelet:
  12. Hi Red - Not of watches but I went down to San Diego Bay the other day and took these with the 55-200mm lens...I also bought a cool Holux GPS Geotagger..it allows me to geocode all the pictures - very fun! Let me know if you want any information on the geotagging... This one isn't as "photogenic" but I still thought it was kind of cool. It's an F/A-18 taking off from NAS North Island (about 2 miles across the Bay from where I was shoot). The birds were on the bank until the After-burners lit off, then they decided to bolt! The DSLR is turning out to be a lot of fun!
  13. Thanks! It was my first "good" rep...I had bought others in the past, but nothing that compares to the ones that can be found here!
  14. I love the GMT IIc Clasp! Probably the best clasp I've ever used! Nice and solid!
  15. Hey Red - Is this the one that Autofocuses? What made you go with this one over the 50mm prime?
  16. Hey Sixx - Thanks for the warning about the 1/2 handled knife. The knife actually is designed with only 1/2 a handle - I like it because of the thinner size (due to the 1/2 handle). For safety reasons, they make the blade so it locks closed so it doesn't open, and they only sharpen 1 side of the bade. That way when it's closed the sharpened piece of the blade sits directly against the handle, making it have a blunt edge until you open the knife back up...family jewels are nicely protected As for why I carry a knife, I do a lot of shipping/receiving in the office and I can never find the office's box cutter. And it's a lot easier and more useful to carry a pocket knife than a box cutter, and like P4TGR said, opening the "occasional letter. Rid a garment of clothing of a rampant thread."
  17. Hey Pug - This may be a dumb question, but, how do you attach the thumbnail sized photo that you click on to blow up? I've always used the "[ i m g ] [/ i m g]" method, but that way you don't get the cool thumbnail... Thanks DB2
  18. I like this! Maybe the MacBook Air doesn't fit in my pocket - but it's close, and it does go with me everyday...
  19. +1,000,000 - this one is great! LeGambleur = Stud!
  20. This one for today...I bought a $9 bezel insert on the 'bay as I wait for my Gen bezel & insert to come in. There's a small gap at the bottom of the insert where it meets the bezel, but at least the pearl is better centered than the original rep insert.... (sorry for the crappy pic, my new DSLR is at home, I guess I should just bring it with me )
  21. Hi Guys - Here is my resubmission...I really liked the cameras on the banners, so here they are...
  22. Hey guys...just wanted to add my $.02 (I've always wanted to type that but never had the opportunity ). Anyways, I have several reps, a couple of Rollies, an IWC 3717 and a couple of Omegas. I don't really pay any attention to when I am wearing the Omegas or the IWC, as the Omegas aren't as "well known" as the Rolex's and I don't think many people know that what an IWC is or how much a Gen would cost...don't get me wrong, I wear the Rolex's (a GMT II Pepsi, and a GMT IIc) a lot, but if I am going to a meeting or wear I don't want to look like I've got too much money, like when I am trying to get a great deal on buying something expensive (like my new DSLR ) I wear one of the Omega's or the 3717.
  23. Yeah...no kiddin! I am totally bummed as I had been waiting for a month for it to get here!
