  1. Can You Modify a Buckle Strap to fit a Deployant Clasp?

All the Strap Sites Mainly Sell Buckle Straps... :animal_rooster:

I've been looking on countless sites for a 2nd strap for my PAM 104, and seen many that I like, however, they are made for Buckle Clasps, not Double-Deployant Clasps, which I prefer. (Not to mention that I need a size around 120/75 to 125/80, which makes the possibilities even fewer..)

I can see from pictures that the opening for the Double-Deployant Clasp is larger than the Buckle Clasp, so could you theoretically just take a razor blade and cut a larger opening, then do a swap? Or would this cause fraying? Or is this just an accident waiting to happen? For example, using too much pressure on the blade and cutting too deep, going into the strap.

Also, how much do vendors generally take off the price if it comes with a Buckle and you don't want any buckle? Or do they do that?

    Thanks,

    :drinks:

  2. The 113 is on a Ferrari strap. I ordered it without a watch from my dealer and swapped the Ferrari-branded clasp for a standard Panerai-branded clasp, which I've polished up from the standard brushed finish. Of all the watches, even my favorite combos (my 104), I think that is the combo which works the best, keeping the watch well and truly smart but casual :)

Would you happen to have a photo of the Ferrari strap on your 104? :good:

Also, how much did the Ferrari strap without watch cost? Which dealer was it?

    Thanks! :drinks:

  3. Getting the Gen prices of Reps is easily obtained by doing a web search of the watch you are interested in. There are many Gen watch sellers who have sites up on the net with prices.

Thanks tazzman, just found the price to be ~$33,000 USD for the Platinum Mat. Do you have a link to Josh's new website? My bookmark went out of date.

Thanks Raijor, but interesting enough, the price varied on the web from ~$30k to $50k.

    I've always believed that you shouldn't wear a rep of a $30,000 watch when you drive a $10,000 car. That's a complete giveaway. :g:

So, as much as I like the Platinum Mat, I don't think it's a good idea to buy.

Any suggestions for a rep that only has a gen price of ~$12k? :victory:

  4. i would rule out the ice bang...too many flaws. the biggest flaw with the black magic is that the case is ss coated

in pvd, when its suppose to be all ceramic. SS is very accurate....with and without ceramic bezel.

i really like the new plat mat. -pic below- shes a beauty!!

What is this one officially called again? And which sellers sell it? And can anyone post a link to them? I only have a link to one site, and Hublots are not sold there.

Personally, I like the rose gold HBB, but the gen costs more than my car, so I've avoided buying it. I wish the sellers would also list a gen MSRP next to all the models sold, then you could make better purchasing decisions.

Also, I looked online for the gen of this one, and the 1st thing I noticed was that the numbers appear to be a navy blue, but all the gen pictures show the numbers to be black(!).

    Thanks,

  5. Not sure who to ask, but what exactly does 'lite version' mean?

Does it mean it's just a cheaper rep? Or is it a rep of a cheaper gen HBB?

And doesn't every rep have AR coating these days?

I have an idea, but I guess I'd ask to make sure...

    Thanks in advance,

  6. I got the day and date wheel through The Zigmeister. If you are in fact booked to do this with him I would suggest you let him know in advance so he can order the parts. People have been able to source them for less than his supplier on these particular items so you can go that route. I know he is indifferent as he sells the parts for his cost. In truth when I saw all these wonderful IWC's coming down the path I ordered several sets of black and white. I do usually swap the movements for my older 17j movements but I have always wondered whether the day/date wheels line up as nicely if you use the original movement.

Looks just like the gen kruzer!

So how much did it cost to see all this through?

    Thanks in advance,

    :notworthy:

  7. I PM ed him ..he gave me a price on the watch and a rubber strap for my pam and then sent me and email address where to send the money ........ i sent the payment and forwarded all the info to him...... he emailed me today and told me that he will get the items tomorrow and ship them to me friday ... also gave me the tracking number that will be used .... pretty good service so far

Wait, you sent payment through RWG? How did you send the money? What money transfer service did you use?

  8. Ok guys after sleeping on it i followed my gut and just placed the order with Puretime (Angus)........ i desided to use one of this sites trusted dealers and he also promised to do a QC check ...... in his email he said he would check for the dust and the date wheel problems ..... so payment sent fingers crossed wish me luck .......

    Hello,

How did you do the payment? Last time I used PayPal, and it was easy, but they don't use that anymore and all they have is Western Union and sites which don't work for the US.

  9. They are readily available on the bay. Just make sure they are double deployant and have two posts for the strap hole. You are looking for one with a little bit deeper engraving. Also just double check against a pic of a gen. If you have one you are considering and post a pic I will give you a quick opinion. It is actually pretty tough to go wrong. The dealers may well have them separately as well. Does anyone know if Homer is selling them on the bay these days?

BTW, is there any site that tells you how to install the double deployant clasp once you buy it? :g: Thanks,

Hello, recently, my clasp broke and I was wondering if any had any advice... The tab fell out one day, and I put it back in, and it seemed to stay in for a while, but then it fell out again and I can't find it. Currently, the only way I can get the watch off of my wrist is to carry around a paper clip to push in the spring and release the clasp. :black_eye:

Maybe I could buy another clasp, but how would I install it? Thanks in advance,

  11. Are the Swiss Cousteaus Overall Better than the Asians?

Or is it the same, except for a better movement?

Also, do all the dealers get their watches from the same source? Because I haven't noticed a difference between ones bought from Angus, TT, or Joshua...

I ask because I noticed that the Swiss Cousteau that Richard Lawton showed seemed to have a better alignment of the Day and Date windows... Also seemed to have better lume, but couldn't really tell...

    Thanks,

    :notworthy:

  12. Hi All

Just received my new IWC with the Swiss 7750 movement

What a great watch, day date excellent running +2-4 sec/day

AR one of the best i've seen. Really great quality very impressed.

    Many Thanks Joshua!!!!!

    Regards

    Richard

Why is the white "5-10-15" aligned to the 6 o'clock position instead of the 12 o'clock?

  13. I like very much the 104.

But i wait until davidsen comes out with a new improved model ( 28800 bph, superlumed, fat crown & guard... ).

In fact he told me that he's working on it. Hope it will be soon :)

    Where is Davidsen's website again?

Hopefully the superlumed version comes out... I once saw a guy wearing the gen right next to me, and the lack of lume really gave it away.

  14. Hey Chris,

I noticed that the 2 words 'Swiss' and 'Made' are correctly together under the 6. However, on Andrew's PAM 104 site, if you look at the pictures, the 2 words are split, going 'Swiss', '6', 'Made'.

Has the PAM 104 rep been updated and improved? Or did you get it modded?

    Looks great by the way...

PAMs always look better with the tan straps...

    Thanks,

    :notworthy:

  15. Hey all,

I was thinking of buying a rep of the Men's Hermes Nomade from Trusty, and there are only a few pictures provided... From a cursory evaluation, it seems as if the Date window is at the wrong angle, the hands are different and one of the subdials is in the wrong place, one of the subdials is different and all are in a different orientation. :g:

    Am I correct?

I'm currently branching out, trying to build up a collection of different watches, instead of going for about a dozen of just PAMs and IWCs...

    Thanks in advance!
