The only noobmariner available when I bought mine from Eurotimez was 21j. If yours is indeed a 21j you can buy the silver version from Labanda here in Aus (not sure if it's the same) or I've bought one that's definitely the same from AJS (aus jewellery supplies) here in Brisbane. This and the gold 4813 are the only movements AJS keeps. Don't be tempted by the 4813. It wont work.

Hehe, this is great. What does B stand for over there? here it stands for "baby".
([censored], i'm assuming?)

This is a good discussion.
I saw a threat titled "have you helped a noob today.". Perhaps it's a thought we could all keep in mind going forward. It often takes only as long to answer many questions as it does to say "use the search".
And let's face it If you search for "crown guard" for example, you're not getting half the results (cos 'CG' is unsearchable). Likewise, searching "pam 250" wont work either. We need to take the time to share more as a community here i think.
-
Imagine the excited noob who just got his first pam. He wants to know how to make the crown lever less floppy. He's a member of rwg so he goes and starts a thread, or finds an old thread on the topic and asks in there... While he's waiting and hoping for an answer he browses around... only to see see thread after thread of unanswered questions and "use the search button you turd".
Amongst all the posts he reads, he comes across many a quote like this:
Where are all the senior guys and experts.... I dont see any of the guys I truly respect in the PAM world posting anymore
Maybe... Just maybe... It's statements like this.
This is my home forum too, but i get around enough to know that us RWGers are considered the stuffed shirts of the rep forum world.
80% of the time if i want to ask a question, i'll have to ask it elsewhere to even get an answer.
This is why i try to answer noob questions, even if I've heard them a hundred times. Even if i barely know, I'll try to post what i do know.
yes, some just want OOB> Some breeze in, buy a watch and bugger off. So what.
I will see a new memeber here and they will be all excited about there new rep.....and most of the time...no one says anything. I mean come on..It's out of the box..who cares?
I feel attitudes like this only hurt this community. The feeling I get is.... if you did not spend hundreds or thousands...yes In some cases this Is true...then your rep isnt even worth looking at. Many examples of this around here.
I know several people who dont even come around here anymore because of this...I mod..so Im better attitude. I know most people dont really belive that..at least I hope not.
The main reason I was attracted to RWG is because there was something for everyone.
If you are like me then you buy the best out of the box that you can find...have the movement serviced...lumed If you so desire. Maybe a better cg down the road. who knows.
I dont have to spend months /years on a project to have pride of ownership....some people do.
I say.... enjoy whatever you enjoy...and let others do the same...no matter how one personally feels about It.
We dont all fit under one umbrella.....I think thats a good thing

I can't tell you the models now (will have to check later). But one was the all steel etoile de. One of the cartiers was the thick all steel with cross hatch pattern.
-
The pens look nice, but the dealers told me they definitely don't take gen refills. Which sort of is a turn off for me. But do let me know what you think when yours arrives.
As mentioned, some do whether they state or not
I bought a few from Josh that didn't state "take gen refill". When they landed i tested them with various gen felt, rollerball etc. I sent Josh a 'heads up' saying that they do infact take the gen. he said, "i know, but best not to state just in case". (i assume, in case a new batch is built differently or something)
So, it's a luck of the draw or trial and error thing.
Insterestingly, a couple of the cartiers took gen MB refills too
-
To me "hmmmm" means suspicious, like a suspicious sigh (like 'i'm not sure, that sounds dodgy' or 'bullplop'). I'd use, "ummmmm" for 'thinking about it for a moment'.
Then you've got "erm", "hmpht" (harrumph), and "pfft" (no explanation required) and "eeeengkt" ('incorrect' buzzer from games shows).

Sorry to bump this old and boring thread but upon receiving a new order from Ptime i realise there's some misinformation above. The screws didn't come from them (On the screw head end, Panatime ones are short and pointy). These actually came from Aussie Ebay seller "twente(o)". I think they might be the same as WSO's.

the man and his trolley
Haha, it does look like that. Never noticed it till you mentioned. Now it's all i see.
-
Hey, I've bought a few from josh which will be the same as these. There are actually pretty good quality although they vary from model to model. For example the Thomas Mann is is kind of flimsy in parts, but the Etoile De... while not exactly accurate is outstanding quality.
Though they don't say - some of them, though not all, do actually take the gen ink refills.
The difference between the rep and gen ink is only a feeling of scratchiness while writing. The inks on paper look identical.

Gotta listen to the wifey mate
Yeah, I was telling a mate i need 6 weeks to quit and train my successor here, two weeks to relocate and another 2 weeks to convince the missus. But the last might might blow out.
You will have a nice house, a cook, a house keeper and a driver. Might have some benefits. And if it is an Expat assignment it won't last for ever.
Usil
*Joke deleted.* Though it wasn't racial or cultural, someone super sensitive could have taken it the wrong way .
-
Thanks for all the input guys. I haven't accepted the position citing relocation and commencement timeframe. A very real reason that wouldn't allow me to train a successor in my current position.
Hopefully this will endear me as loyal rather than forego me from future opportunities with them.
BTW, the missus, who's currently in Singapore, was totally anti hehe. The above is still my reason, not an excuse.

I'll admit india has never been on the list prior to this.
The job is a top ranking role in a huge and forward thinking global media company. They have a huge presence in the UK/US and SE Asia region. The title is prestigious, the money matches the title.
Don't worry, i'm trying to convice myself as well
There'll be a bunch of written info arriving today, then a big and reasonably quick decision to make.
-
Man o man, times must be tough if you are actually considering this. I highly doubt you would stay long.
Though Toronto can seem like India at times,i guess.
Not at all, in fact compared to you guys, times are exceptional.
I just have itchy feet and the role is quite a step up.
-
Heheh, I was just joking about that. No kids but a new fiancee who is very safety concerned.
Being specific, im wondering about quality of life living there as an expat, safety for the missus and also enternment, things to do n the downtime.
-
That's what I was advised. What about safety, drugs (can get any good ones in darn sg ) crime etc
-
Hi Samurai. I've been offered a new position that's going to be hard to refuse. I have the choice between being based in Chennai and Kolkata. I dont have kids but have some big considerations to make. I'm seriously thinking it over though as the job sounds exceptional
-
Specifically Chennai (formerly Madras).
Thanks, if you have any info or experience to share.

Where is the platinum sector? I can not find it anymore. Surely I am a platinum member. Hmm
hehe, had to PM admin about it. it has been removed. The first time i could have ever used it for anything worthwhile.
Link above^

If I remember right mastrmindalliance already made a nice PDF out of the book...
Saves money, even thou I only payed 400$ for a new one ;-)
Hey would have hosted/posted earlier was just waiting for the go ahead from you.
Well thanks to the RWG member for posting the link to my download site on repgeek (without asking and without my permission).
Hotlinking is a huge problem at this site. Especially the images to gen sites. I'm a member (mod actually) at another grey area hobby where hotlnking to anything official (equivalent to gen here) is strictly forbidden..
With that in mind, i have hosted the file and will post a link in the Platinum section when it can be located.
Edit: Just recieved word that the Plat section has been removed.
Dont really want dozens of PMs so link is here
Please be a gentleman and post here before reposting.

The fiddy style cases on steel actually look kinda cool without cg. I'm thinking about a a sterile project with my 328 if i can find someone to fill the CG feet cutout areas properly. Unfortunately, the jewellers i've asked wont touch SS.
Noobmariner from Eurotimez needs new movement help ! Picz !
