Weren't there people trying to justify the low grade movement as a result of the cost required to engrave the caseback?

Personally, I think working movements will always have a place in the market; parts movements are a difficult sell unless the caliber is so old that parts support is no longer available.

May I also suggest getting ahold of a cheapie Asian 6497 to start with? It's large, low cost and easy to work with. I taught my kids how to tear one down and put one back together if that tells you anything.

And you're right; I don't see the seconds hand pinion either. But maybe it's just recessed below the top/opening of the cannon pinion (hopefully).

The only thing that really stands out to me is that there should be a little figure 8 looking piece affixed to the cap jewel on the dial side of the movement.

Since you've got the back off, try tightening that screw closest to the crown.

The set screw for the stem likely came loose. Common problem.

Exactly. We all know the scammers are out there, but I think it would be helpful to other forum members if the details (sans name) were shared. That way, folks understand how such a scam is approached and how to recognize if they are in the same kind of situation.

Sounds about right in terms of cost. Mine is right in that range ($4k)...

I have to say... There is just something about the classic RO that I always find so timeless and elegant.

The geometry of the case and bracelet... The fine, satin grain finish flirting with the crisp edges of polished surfaces... And the way it catches light; it almost sparkles like a gemstone.

And it wears quite nicely on the wrist.

The more I think about it, the more I want one...
