  1. After having had my fair share of vintage Rolex projects, I figured it was time to diversify a bit.

2012 has been pretty focused on PPCo; started with this one (which is still a work in progress)...

Right when I was about to get the V23 converted to 13 130 specs, I happened upon the following project...

Gen 23 300 movement, genuine dial (solid 18k YG dial plate) and genuine WG baton hands. I have a gen crown waiting to go on; I need a longer stem which I am working on. I was planning on trying to hunt down the correct 18k case for the movement, but I rather like the steel case that it was retrofitted to.

Still have much to do, but both pieces are wearable for now. More to follow...

    Thanks for looking!

  2. The man can truly work some magic! The before and after shots are pretty amazing.

No short cuts here either; the job is done the correct and proper way. It's nice to know that there are still folks out there like the Zigmeister who take the time to do things the right way for sake of knowing that it's correct.

I wish more people would take this kind of pride in their work (not limited to just watch stuff either).

  3. You are correct, Domestic Registered mail is THE safest way to ship ANYTHING in the US. It is under lock and key the ENTIRE way with every person who touches it having to sign and date the papers for it! Even the Semi truck drivers have to "sign" for it to transport it from PO to PO.

But for INT. it ends at the border. Incoming Registered is like domestic 1st class.

Good stuff and very educational. Thanks for providing the insight; it helps to understand the process a little better as we all wait impatiently while camped out by the mailbox ;)

  4. Ubi,

Are you still using the same bracelet/clasp combo on this beautiful piece?

I am indeed. I should try and find a 93150 sometime, but I'm not terribly bothered with the 78360 and 580/93150 clasp combo. I've used this particular bracelet for the last 6 or so years throughout different projects and the like. As such, I've got some sentimental attachment to it -_-

    Jkay- Thank you kindly ^_^

  5. Damn R, that may be the best looking rolex ever. Feel free to wear her everyday so she and I can visit through your wristies.

And if she ever needs watching while you are out visiting the mouse, you know my address;)

:) Bringing the 5514 with me on our family trips to the Kingdom has become a sort of tradition for me...

And it's almost always on my left wrist; rarely a time it's not. When I post in wristie threads, those watches are usually on the right wrist...

    ;)

  6. Nil change in functionality, it's purely a visual effect to duplicate the gen. For the discerning detail oriented owner... :)

Well, now I am wondering why Panerai does this small modification if there's no benefit in performance or function. Maybe this is one of those features in which they feel justified in charging people the prices they do for ETA 6497 based watches?

    :g:
