  1. I think the poster you're responding to is grossly overstating what many posters have been trying to understate--that this thread raises a few warning flags. It's not too often a new guy shows up around these parts using his innaugural posts w/ offers to make rep parts, and opining on the theory and practice of scamming retail giants. On boards like this the mind wanders: Provocateuring. Entrapment. At best, too-earnest "I am Newbie, hear me roar."

Nothing personal, pardner. When you post the .AI file of the new PAM dials you'll be a hero, and rightly so because then you will have graduated from talking to speaking. But until then, trying to open a "Who loves to commit felonies" discussion probably wasn't your best call of the day.

Thank you. I understand. This is why I said from the beginning this thread is deletable, it's edgy, no doubt. I think this (swapping parts) happens, but the point is we don't talk about it, lest we condone it or be associated with it. That wasn't the title, but I get your point. I will lurk more, "contribute" less. I assure you I have no ill-intentions.

Sorry everybody, I have a hard time letting chickenshit accusations and putdowns (not face to face) go. I'm here to learn, contribute make freinds like everyone else. I'll turn it down, near off.

I will make .AI files, but I have no usable hi-res scans or photos. PM if u have helpful hints for me or want help. It seems like eveyone is pretty content with the quality of things as is.

  2. it's only a matter of time until one of the dealers here is posting about this assclown receiving a watch and reversing PayPal on them

mark my words. i am always right

Whatever. Your words?--more mockable than markable. Wow, always right, huh?! That's unbelievable! Nice self portrait. Assclown?

Goes to show, ya give some insecure people an anonymous way to start [censored] they would normally in real life be afraid to start OR finish, they will. You are a perfect example. :animal_rooster:

You want to get together sometime? Picnic?

  3. Expert Area

The bouncers intimidated me, and I had no backstage pass.

Seriously though--thank you, you're right, I never went in that section based on the title alone. Figured it would be over my head at this stage, but it looks like my K-nowledge and intersest is expanding to that point.

AFTER POKING AROUND: Yes YES YES--thanx again--that's what I was missing.

  4. Typically, not difficult, though watches with complications, sub dials, etc will require more time and effort (naturally).

So, ultimately, it depends on which watch... As it varies.

PAM250. A watch with subdials. Maybe from this point anyone who does this and wants to can PM me. Those new datewheels will fit, right?

I want to customize a 250 or 196 for visual accuracy, basically. I will probably have to start with a ETA movement model, I assume.

This is why I am also interested in getting, or somehow helping to make if I can, a more accurate dial.

  5. when you call, just ask them if they work on reps? if not, move on to the next shop. better to do it over the phone than face to face. that's when you get in trouble!

True. Unless they're REAL assholes and go, "Replicas? Oh sure, no problem! Come on in ASAP! Bring your ID and any other reps you might have, I'd love to see them! What time will you be here?" YKWIM? I joke, but who knows--they might have an agenda. They might be required to--I don't know

Obviously if they said all that I would continue down the list. Actually if I was a watch repair dude I might do that for fun.

  6. Actually I just mean expensive or time consuming for a pro. Just want to clarify so I don't get the "don't try it" answers. Again, thanx.

ADDED 10 MINUTES AFTER POST: This ones so stinking of noob, people are just passing it by, lol. Maybe I should phrase it: Can any of you recommend a watch repairer to switch out a datewheel and dial? And how much would they (you) charge and how much time would it take?

  7. This is probably old news to 99% of you but I found this picture of a gen 162. I was under the impression that whether it's a 196, 162, 250, TachyMETRE was just wrong. Do any dealers have a 162 that looks like this (with thinner dial numbers, Automatic Chrono type at 6, GRAY subdial BG)?

BTW, the 196 is also correct in it's METRE spelling. METER is only on the 250.

Also, if this thread is just too kindergarten for everyone, you can delete it. admins.

  8. Arch-

You are asking for it.

At this point, I don't know much about the watch-making process, this is true.

But I will GUARANTEE you that somewhere in Italy, there are prima donna graphic designers comping and specing out fonts and layouts in Illustrator for watch designs and dials and casebacks, which they hand off to CAD production or industrial designers to start the real work. There are plenty of intermediary steps between them and a finished product, no doubt. And I have a pretty vague, maybe even naive understanding of that part. I just want it known what I can do, so that those of you that do understand and are involved with the complete process can use me if possible. It's just a way to contribute(hopefully) to my new hobby. If it's all over my head and my skills don't fit into this process, thats cool. School me, please. But from the PMs I've gotton so far, it sounds like maybe I can pitch in. Either way, I'm doing it for fun and not my $85/hour freelance rate so if I do create something and it's unusable, it's unusable. This is reverse engineering design, so it sounds even easier. I might be completely wrong, but there seems to be one step in the rep process that could use some tightening up on some models.

Just putting myself out there. I want to re-do this 196(this is gen, notice METRE):

This is probably a REALLY stupid question, but I still don't see why it's advantageous (as some of you say) to have flaws and inconsistancies. Is it really just because if they are too "real" looking, the hammer might come down on the little market? If so, it's time to ramp up the aftermarket parts and alterations market.

  9. This is the best PAM250 rep currently being offered.

There will always be 'something' wrong with the rep, my aim is to find the one with the least amount of 'issues' out-of-wack with the gen. I'm happy with this one as-is.

    cheers,

    babola

It is the best for it's "Panerai Luminor" font and the Tach spelling, for sure--big noticeable improvements. I have a Tantalium that is perfect looking compared to that 250, tho. One more dial and a Tach bezel (basically) and the 250 could be too. I'm glad there are a lot of satisfied people though, sincerely.

I really think they should go back to older datewheel though, with bolder numbers, right? This is a big issue for me personally. It's set so deep in there in the first place, then that skinny incorrect font. Someone please at least back me up on that one. Or is the datewheel an integral part of the new movement?

I know the vets around here are getting really sick of this thread--I can feel it. This is MY model though guys, the first watch I was attracted to and bought (w/ my B&R 2nd). I have all kinda love and passion for it.

    HAIRMPH!!!
