  1. how do I contact DSN? Can't find anything on panatime, either... Cheers Ric
  2. Hi guys, I'm in the UK and I want a getatwatch custom. I can either go with standard mail or EMS. I don't want to get hit up for customs etc into the UK. Is EMS generally safe? Ric
  3. WOOOHOOOOOOOOO! as I type this, it's just clicked over at midnight! I'll get me coat.
  4. Hi There, Since I stopped wearing my gen Seamaster for a couple of days and it ran out of power, after I've wound it up again it's keeping good time but the datewheel doesn't seem to advance. I can manually advance it fine, but it doesn't do it by itself I don't think. Can anyone give me any pointers on what to check? Assuming I don't set it at just after midnight, how do I make sure the watch changes at night, and not at lunchtime? Regards, Ric

  6. Right, I'm almost settled on a Getatwatch custom: 44mm Luminor Titanium case, black sandwich dial, superwhite lume, black hands with matching lume, black strap...possibly a Destro. Getatwatch don't seem to do titanium clasps except in 22m which reading his email sounds like it only fits certain straps. He also has deployment clasps on black straps, but not for his handmade straps (not sure what I'd get with this). Anyone know either the standard size strap for a 44mm PAM (straight 24mm?) or a source for titanium buckles or deployment clasps to fit the standard size strap? Thanks Ric
  7. Any indicative prices for the black label? Do they come with clasp? After a titanium PAM one for a 44mm luminor...
  8. Seems pretty safe, I was very gentle at first and then ended up just wildly buffing the whole thing with it, looked great afterwards...!
  9. Yes, that's the one. There are others - basically they look like white, foam rubber pads that you might do the dishes with. Use them dry or dampened slightly. The tech behind it's here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_eraser They're really weird - they feel utterly non abrasive, and they definitely don't scratch anything I've used them on (plastics, painted walls, watches) but they have an almost magical quality erasing marks. Also great for removing paint splodges off stuff. Got mine off ebay from the states, but noticed in the UK they're now on sale in supermarkets/Lakeland etc.
  10. Not seen this posted here so thought it worth a post: I've just finished cleaning up a plastic Apple Macbook using a "magic eraser" foam pad, and it worked beautifully. Idly tried it on a steel polished watch I have here and it worked like a charm in polishing it up. Safe, not conventionally abrasive (they're made from melamine foam which is soft sponge that's very hard at a microscopic level). Run it over the watch a few times: instant shiny! Worth a go: magic erasers don't cost much and a pack will last you forever...
  11. Hi All, I've a Camel Trophy quartz chrono dating back to around 1989 that i've rediscovered in the loft. Before I go and see if I can revive this with a new battery, etc, can anyone tell me anything about these watches? Are they at all desirable used? Tempted to see if I can put it towards a PAM rep but thought I'd consult you guys first to see if this is worth trying to revive...It's boxed (in the yellow metal Camel "jerry can") with all instructions/warranty etc... Ric
  12. dumb question, but who's tat?
  13. ...also, what's the lume like, particularly on the sandwich dials?
  14. Thanks guys. What are they like compared to Jackson tsei? They all seem really pretty cheap, are they as good as they sound?
  15. Just seen this lot: http://www.siswatch727.com/index.do Looks like for $160 plus UK shipping I could build myself a nice homage watch. Anyone seen these cases, or had any stuff from these guys? How good are the reps? Would I be pleased with the result? Not built a watch before and really fancy having a fantasy homage one... Ric
  16. This might be a silly question, but looking at the POrikaa I have (well, had: it's unfortunately had a stuck date wheel which he's sorting out for me) the steel bracelet pins for the removeable links don't have the arrows on (as per my gen seamaster) to indicate direction of removal. Should I assume they remove in the same direction as the gen?
  17. Cheers. That was my first thought- are his "the best"? Is there a lot of variation with smp reps?
  18. A friend wants to get himself a decent rep Omega Seamaster - either a blue or black face one. He's in the UK - can anyone recommend a good model, that has a reasonable chance of some decent level of waterproofing out of the box? He's willing to spend a reasonable amount on this, and wants one with a decent automatic movement. Any particular ones to avoid? I've read By-tor's excellent guide but could do with a pointer to which dealers have which version - preferably EU or UK based. (Narikaa/PT Swiss - do they stock good ones?) Cheers Ric
  19. I've got the 22mm one on my 45mm POrikaa. Looks good: the 22mm one has a brushed clasp rather than polished. Clasp has popped open a couple of times but it's pretty solid.
  20. That's exactly what I'm nervy of: screwing up stem removal! Any tips? Planning to use servisol silicone grease: I can readily get hold of this. Sound ok?
  21. thanks - I'd seen some of that info before. I'm a noob, mind, and I'm more nervous of removing the crown/stem than anything. Tips here much appreciated. Also, the silicone grease - presumably *any* silicone grease would work?
  22. Got a Narikaa PO arriving, and I'm planning to get it pressure tested to see if I can wear it swimming. If it doesn't pass then I'll need to get waterproofing - presume caseback off, grease seals, and crown/stem out and grease inside stem, inside crown seal and outside crown seal? Any risk in applying a bit too much grease to the stem - don't want to gunk it up. Anyone any tips for a noob for taking out the crown on these models - what do I press to remove it without me messing up the movement? Thanks!
  23. this might be a silly question, but... I've a leather strap for my rep PO - which has a rep Omega leather strap including the Omega deployment buckle. Can the buckle be transferred to another strap - I guess it depends if the spacing between holes punched in the leather is at all standard. I'd like to combine it with a much chunkier leather strap if possible. Anyone advise?
