  1. Thanks for the info. I should have an alternate CP from an Asian movement somewhere and will try that first. I don't think my skills will let me get to the first wheel myself. I am used to improvising with Rolex stuff, but PAMs have always just popped together for me until this.
  2. $60 is well worth it to find this forum. I myself found the old RWG by searching for a seller I had good luck with on iOffer....Eddie Lee. His prices were at least double on iOffer Do update the thread to tell us what you get!
  3. Shoot. I first fitted an H3 ETA CP and while it snapped on it seemed to slip and not turn with the movement. I think that it was lose on the post. So I went back to the CP that came with the movement. It is from a rep PAM and looks to be the right height. Will, double check.
  4. I have a FGD minute hand that will not quite fit flush with the CP on an Asian clone movement. Do I want to file down the bottom of the "tube" on the underside of the hand a bit, broach the hand (even though it's painted) or file/polish the CP edge a bit? I pushed pretty darn hard trying brute force but to no avail. Thanks!
  5. Well, Jaeger screwed up by putting the most historically significant dial in the platinum case (only) as I understand it, so it would be a great way to get the right dial in a steel case.
  6. Why don't TDs use Skrill (formerly Moneybookers)? It seems like a no questions asked version of PP. I know there was some outrage that they deducted a maintenance fee from account balances awhile back, but I reactivated my account to pay Davidsen and it seems pretty seamless.
  7. I have that tool (can't beat the price) but as mentioned the domes are too high. Even a T19 service IIRC. I happen to have a spare retaining ring that I simply place over the one to be pressed. You will need to rig up something similar to that or the examples above.
  8. Sorry..."smart people." I guess the KV version is just releasing. Rep Geek has a thread. I bet RWI will as well. I can't wear 47mm, so I don't know much about the watches. The ZF version that is out does look good to me, however.
  9. Hi BD, "Most are extremely underpaid, expecting any overtime to be covered without pay and the projects are quite mundane and extremely cost driven." Working in the US may not be for you In all seriousness, it's tough starting out. Work is pretty much all-consuming no matter what you try to do about it, so I would concentrate more on the quality of the work and what you will learn and less about time and pay starting out. Pay will work itself out. I started in advertising at a major agency and our standard joke was we were getting paid about $5 per hour. I gather the economy in Ireland is still stalled? Good luck with the search.
  10. Kuvarsit either just released or is about to release theirs to compete with the ZF. The cognicenti seem to like it. So you do want to research the two versions.
  11. Agree. Try it without the tension spring and insert to make sure it fits the crystal retaining ring properly. You may need to use the Clark retaining ring if it just won't work with the DW ring. The inner diameter of the various retaining rings seem to be reasonably consistent, but the outer dimensions vary a bit. For example, a gen 1665 bezel is too lose on (what I believe to be) a Clark 1665 retaining ring, so maybe the Clark bezels are a bit smaller than most.
  12. Three feels about right. And as far as I can tell it is strictly luck if the coronet lines up in any way, even on a gen.
  13. Hey...If you install this on a cartel watch it's a franken .
  14. Well, you've picked the right watch to avoid disappointment, so I would say you're off to a good start. Hope it all goes smoothly. Shop for a decent strap while you wait!
  15. I'm siding with the Italian cabal on VRF. There are several threads on this there Cheers.
  16. I think it's lovely. I also like the choice of the smudge dial. As far as I know, a 5514 with a non-Comex dial would have come with a simple feet first proper "pre-comex" dial--when the smudge dial was being put in 5513s the 5514s would have been coming with a Comex labeled dial also from Stern. But, there is a certain coolness to these dials. I am building out an HH case from dbane with a feet-first dial, and it's a bit boring. 1520 in route . Cheers.
  17. I put a new ETA date disc on his most recent movement no problem. Make sure the little spring on the side opposite the keyless is not trapped under the date disc. Otherwise it will pop off when you try to advance with the keyless. Also make sure you do not accidentally have the hands set at midnight. Cheers.
  18. I have a Swiss 2836 sitting around that I would like to use in a no date sub. I want the stem alignment to be as good as possible, so I removed all the date bits in an effort to get the dial slightly closer to the movement. However, the hour wheel has a [censored] on it (not sure if this is the right word but the post comes down and then widens before connecting with the actual wheel) that the dial hits before it can get all that close to the movement. It seems to be in about the same spot it was before. Does anyone know if there is an hour wheel available without the [censored], or do I have to break out the metal file? Thanks! Ha ha...The censored word is Fla nge.
  19. I saw one outside the casino in Monte Carlo (of course) in this sort of orangeish pink color. I can only imagine who was driving it. Or maybe they just park it there for the image.
  20. I'll say. Great shots particularly of the Alfas. Those cats at Bugatti had some far out designs over the years.
