  1. Depending what you're trying to achieve....Careful use of a green scotchbrite pad will accomplish an even brushed finish w/o removing the bezel..

Carefully avoiding the lense as plastic scuffs easily w/ the pad. I recently refinished the bezel on my Tudor chrono quite successfully..

  2. LHOOQ, You've really gone to the darkside...As I remember " You're not a sub kinda guy" ....5513 becomes you as do your other wonderful pieces!

I'll bet you're soon to have a sub on a leather or Nato strap! Keep up the great work, You're good at it!....Regards, mcotter

  3. Centaur, Look at a Hirsch Liberty which is saddle leather w/ off white stitching, they come in tan,med brn & dark brn...They will serve your Sub beautifully.....Alligoat, I too like the dark croc yet the off white stitch is stunning especially if it's hand stitched!

    Regards, mcotter

  4. Absolutely Stunning! Yesterday when you suggested that the back will tell (more) I immediately thought that you had re-mortgaged your home & had gone off the deep end. That dial looks fabulous & very different that I remember it on the bay. JMB is such an asset, his workmanship is truly amazing & his love of his craft is so obvious! Thanks for this superb story,I appreciate your relentless search for the ingredients in this fantastic end result.

    My Regards, mcotter

  5. That is a very cool site, high pricing yet a good explanation that " they deal only in the best example available". With all respect for our Trusted dealers I'm curious about this vendor..If further discussion is not allowed here could someone pm me w/ some insight....My thanks, mcotter

  6. It is a very cool site, high pricing yet w/ good explanation"why". With all respect to our Trusted dealers I'm curious about this vendor. If further discussion is not permitted here could someone either pm or email me w/ insight...My thanks, mcotter@skbk.com

  7. An elder friend graduated from Brown University in 1962. w/ his graduation money he purchased a silver dial pre-daytona from Abercrombie & Fitch in New York (not the current retailer, the original outfitter) @ $185.00.....In 2008 I sold this watch for $29,000 for him so he could take he & his wife to the Orient for a month! Regards, mcotter

  8. JMB, The caseback on the gen Tudor sub is dead nuts flat. The problem w/ rep casebacks is that they are either domed as in early or flat center w/tapered 1/4" surround as in later. I guess you could turn either to a "flat" providing case thickness would allow. Also the script size varied a bit from model to model. I'll send you a picture of a couple I own for reference...Regards, mcotter

  9. The caseback engraving is an issue for sure! JMB on this forum is experimenting as we speak w/ his new c&c & may have the recipe in short order.

I built a snowflake from a cartel 1680, had International Dial re-do the dial successfully & had Motor city Watchworks source the hands, aged a generic blue insert, had the date wheel re-done in red added a Tudor sub bracelet...A credible cost effective result!

    Regards, mcotter

  10. I have a GMT 11 which is clicking in the wind position. In the other positions it sets date & hands as usual. Before I engage an expert watchsmith can anyone shed light on this malady? There appears to be a slippage as I can wind it carefully as it will catch w/ every 3rd rev or so.The watch in question is a cartel a21j basic piece....My thanks for the tutelage, Regards, mcotter

  11. KB, Nope not trying to suggest that the vendors mentioned are secret...Just that some of the most accurate replication work comes from these sources & they happen to be in Vietnam! I know that they build watches that are really above the crowd & charge appropriately. No disrespect to the modders & builders who we interface w/ on this wonderful forum...Regards, mcotter

  12. Not to be a perpetuator of myth, try: vintagewatchesmq.com.....I believe it's located in VN formerly Saigon. The base locations of NDT & JW may also!

The story about the Daytona/Texas has a number of credible sources on Gen sites....Regards, mcotter

  13. Interesting, there a few of the highend suppliers in Vietnam in fact the most expensive reps & parts are the work of who I believe to be a vietnamese.

The old story about the Daytona which was serviced by Rolex in Texas had a Vietnam origin....Regards, mcotter

  14. Freddy's message is dead nuts on!The refinisher must know what you expect...Contrary to the earlier condemnation of "International Dial" They have served me well. They recently did a snowflake for me much to my satisfaction.I'm not in line w/ the addage that refinished dials are crap!Rob at international is accomodating & does fine work! Regards, mcotter
