  1. Thanks Aeromatic - Never new that 25% rule ? Interesting ! In all seriousness, this watch feels and looks 100% gen - I own gen Rolexes and just knowing it has a gen Rolex movement in it changes the wearers mindset. A bit like a Ferrari engine in so much as you know what is under the hood is what really makes it pedigree and if the seats were re-upholstered then it still is a Ferrari and if the soft-top was replaced - It is still a Ferrari and if The respray was done in California not Modena Italy, then its still a Ferrari and you are still gonna feel like you have a special car. Well this watch really feels like something very very special when you have it on your wrist.
  2. A gen in this condition is likely to cost somewhere very close to $30,000 ..................maybe a couple of grand less. - This on the other hamd cost under $5k - In terms of the quality and the craftsmanship it is fair to say that this is every bit "equal" to a gen - There are maybe some slight differences in case shape (?) that could be identified with a pair of digital calipers but the dial, for example, was mistaken for genuine by a Rolex technician who during his 20+ years servicing Rolexes worked on many real ones - He asked "how did I get a real dial ?!"
  3. Hi guys - not been on here for a while so thought I would come and show what has been keeping me busy. After (at least) a year and much effort and work and organisation and tears and smiles I finally have completed a truly beautiful and exceptional 1665 DRSD - An icon for all of us Vintage fans. Here is some spec but it barely tells the story of how much effort and expense went into this. The end result is something rather special though so enjoy and I welcome your comments too. DRSD1665 MBK case set Gen fully serviced 1570 movement by Rolex technician 100% perfect - I mean PERFECT! gen Rolex nos crystal gen bezel insert gen crown and tube gen 585 endlinks gen 93150 bracelet gen springbars NDT dial and handset Full vintage relume by Rolex Addict (jj) Cgs and case shaped and aged by pbdad Let the pictures speak for themselves now.............................. First - here she is with her equally supermodel "Sister 1680" HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS GUYS - IT REALLY IS A DREAM OF A WATCH - I SO WISH THEY MADE THESE IN 44MM THOUGH !!
  4. Thanks chief - trust me, it will have all the added "wear" to the case after I have had it on my wrist for about two weeks ! I will be very capable of adding ten years age in 10 days just by being my usual self
  5. THE THIRD PIC DOWN IS OF A REP BRACELET - ooops - my mistake - its a gen on the watch though
  6. Thanks - I suspect (hope) that the lume does settle and cure to a more matte finish - Its really quite fresh still and the photos are from a very sunny day. These things are never really "finished" are they I shall wear it for a while and then see - the dial itself is certainly very matte.
  7. A couple of months ago I was given a genuine Rolex 1570 movement as a gift. I decided after much deliberation, that I wanted to build a really special 1680 Submariner I have been helped by many along the way but there are three guys who need some special praise for their invaluable help. Firstly, I would like to thank my very good friend Steve who donated the Rolex movement and the MBK watch that formed the build and also the gen bracelet and gen end links. Secondly I need to give a really big thanks to Mapman57 who was extremely helpful in many ways. He was a fountain of good and accurate knowledge at pretty much every stage of sourcing parts that were hard to find and made sure I never spent any hard-earned on incorrect or dodgy genuine parts. He provided superb and in depth reference materials and advice and also helped to assemble my gen bracelet out of the two gen bracelets needed to concoct one big enough for me and good enough for a build of this spec. Finally and by no means least - I need to thank JJ aka RolexAddict on RWG. The expertise and ability that RolexAddict brought to the table was superb. He is a super nice guy to deal with. Incredibly professional in his approach, communication and advice. I could write a lot about what JJ had to do to overcome certain difficulties building this watch but I know he intends covering that himself over on RWG so I will add a link to that thread here once it is available and online. Some spec and details that you guys insist on knowing. Movement - Genuine Rolex 1570 movement with hack mechanism and genuine original datewheel. Case and bezel assembly from MBK 1680 sourced direct through Reg (Narikaa - a great dealer and always helpful to the max) Bezel insert WSO with Yuki Acrylic Pearl relumed with aged Tritium effect lume. Crown and tube OEM Rolex parts Case was reshaped and softened by RolexAddict and lugs drilled for gen springbars Dial is NDT and Handset is NDT - All relumed by RolexAddict to a great aged Tritium colour (NDT are great dials - print is immaculate etc but the dial lume colour is simply TOO orange - If you have the budget definitely get an NDT dial but DEFINITELY factor in the price of a relume. Genuine NOS Rolex crystal. Genuine Rolex 93150 Bracelet with clasp code "A" Genuine 593 endlinks. THANKS SO MUCH TO ROLEX ADDICT AND TO MAPMAN57 - A couple of great and helpful guys. Like RolexAddict said to me, and I will not forget this fantastic attitude " Chris, No problems - ONLY SOLUTIONS" Here are some photos of my new beautiful SUPERFRANKEN 1680 SUBMARINER
  8. Lets hope he eats a poisoned Taco and dies in the gutter and then a dog comes and pisses on him.
  9. I noticed the crown under the triangle at 12 is a little off to the right too.
  10. Looked at a gen this very afternoon - This is very nice indeed mate - Just to make you feel even better, the gen was £4050 ! Enjoy this mate
  11. You should get the Orange strap - that is bound to smell of oranges
  12. My neighbour already suspects that I am a little crazy. God , cant a guy defecate under a full moon on his on front yard whilst howling anymore without the neighbours thinking your crazy
  13. Excellent tips guys - I especially like the idea of keeping it in a pocket with a lot of coins. The simplest ideas are often the best. The tumble dryer is not an option as I do not have one - line dried laundry is the only way for clothes but will not help when ageing a watch - If I buy a drier just for watch ageing then I will be committed to the local mental health treatment facility and put into a padded cell in a BACK-TO-FRONT JACKET !
  14. Absolutely correct - The Patina would also be visible on the hands - I currently have that on the go and am applying some glow-inc v10 lume mixed with some make-up powder to apply to the lume wells. I will post photos once the desired look is achieved.
