The first watch you mentioned is the new 2009 model of the submariner. Now with a bit larger case (42mm) that follows the trend for bigger size watches, with a ceramic (Cerachrom) bezel insert like the GMT2C or the DSSD, fatter hands and with a new (Glidelock) clasp with micro-adjustment.

The other (16610) is the "classic" 40mm Submariner Date with aluminum insert. The "Noobmariner" is a pretty good replica of this (16610) watch, though there are even better - but more expensive versions like the WM9. If you want to compare these watches, try the "Links" section of the forum, leading you to trusted dealers websites.

"Better, Best, Ultimate etc.": Here on this forum you will find people who will discuss even the tiniest faults for hours. They are true experts and compare high-res pictures side by side to identify even the smallest mistakes in replication. You need to find out just how picky YOU are because it might well be that you or your friends will never notice these faults.

Swiss ETA - if you know that your love for that particular watch will last, it makes sense to get a better movement version of it (i.e. true ETA) and then have it serviced by a watchmaker (if you are in Germanland, use Domenico http://www.rwgforum....hmaker-in-eu/). Just make sure you buy from a trusted dealer because not every can that is red and labeled "Coca Cola" contains a soft-drink.

I have a U2S PVD. On my first one - which arrived DOA - the coating had imperfections (lighter spots). The replacement which PT, my dealer, got me, is fine. PVD is ok and IMHO not more sensitive than any other PVD coated rep. If you want a coating that will withstand any abuse, buy the gen Sinn.

Screw down pusher do nothing for water-resistance though...only to prevent accidental tripping of the chrono functions...so they are still a potential point of egress.

Well true and not true. Screw down alone is not the solution. Greased O-rings and/or flat rubber gaskets are required as well. In addition, it is essential to have a certain design and manufacturing quality with very small tolerance and a quality control that deserves to be called so. None of the aforementioned makes a watch waterproof, it's the sum of all which gives you a timepiece which in theory could be waterproof.

When you have all that, screw down makes a difference, because not only does it prevent using the chrono underwater, it also applies limited pressure to the gasket and makes sure that they sit tight. The Panerai crown guard lever though with a different technique, follows the same principle. On top of that, a tight fit between the tube's and the crown's (or pusher's) thread will limit the amount of water that needs to be detained by the gasket.

My personal opinion: If you buy a gen which is sold as waterproof, get it wet. If it fails, you've got a warranty. If the watch is a supposedly waterproof rep or a gen who's warranty has expired, have it tested. It costs very little, takes no time and gives you peace of mind....

There is a big difference between a Daytona rep and a PAM253... screw-down pushers and screw-down crown. The more openings a watchcase has, the more chance for failure. I would never take my rep 196 Daylight for a shower or swim, and that's what separates the gens from the reps.

I am wearing my new arrival - the Sinn U2S Einsatzzeitmesser. It has the best (standard) AR I have ever seen on a rep.

FWIW ( for what its worth) you can use the "TT" for trusty, or alternatively for two tone, as in gold and stainless, not necessarily our much vaunted Admin.

I just received my Sinn U2S.

I was in love with that watch from the moment I first saw it and I am still seriously contemplating buying the gen. My first rep U2 arrived DOA but PT, my dealer of choice, quickly ordered a replacement for me. A very nice watch, well replicated (with the exception of the strap, I would say). So, weekend is wallpaper time and here is another one...

I suspect the case and pushers are from a rep Daytona 116520. On a gen Tudor Prince Chrono the case looks just a little bit different but IMHO the giveaway is the tachymetre bezel (gen Tudor starts at "500" and has different markers).

A very nice watch indeed. Enjoy it. If you look at the finish on this watch and compare it to it's rep counterpart, you understand why a rep is a rep and a gen is something else.

A truly exceptional piece and perfect work by the Zigmeister (anyone expected anything less from The Zigmeister?). I especially envy you for the "old school" DSN caseback. Hard to get these days and not even close to the 202a casebacks Davidsen currently offers.

Just to make sure ... to use the heat removal option, you need to uninstall the crystal. I would not try that with the crystal installed. To remove a crystal without tools is possible (uncase movement first and then carefully press with a thumb from the inside out) - to reinstall it is more difficult, especially if you want the watch to be waterproof.

"From the box" = No.

You need an old school 1680 MBW and have it modded (crown guards, dial, crown, crystal etc.) to get the equivalent of what your picture shows. You might look at the member sales section or post a "WTB" (want to buy) for a modded MBW 1680 white dial.
