  1. Took about 15 minutes and a $1.50 bottle of flat black Testors model paint. Brush the paint on, wait 15 minutes or so and gently wipe off with a paper towel. There is a speck of paint that I missed, which is now gone It looks perfect at arms length. Gen Clasp
  2. I decided to pass on it. There are a couple of flaws. No AR (which the gen does have). There is also a flaw in the bezel. It is machined wrong. The 10 is closer to the 15 than the 5. It is very noticable in real life.
  3. I think since we know what all the "tells" are, it's easy to point out the flaws. Everyone else, especially without a loupe, would not know the difference. You can rotate the bezel and play with the crown and you will think it is a gen. The bezels and crowns/tubes on BK's Subs and Yachtmasters do not feel this good. You really need to study the gmt hand to see that it is not the chs. The rehault engraving is very subtle and although misaligned at 9, is not an issue to me ... all in all, the watch is that good.
  4. You can get one from DW for sure. Send me a pm if you want his email address. Marty
  5. I was looking at your pic of the movement. It looks a little bit different than mine, which is a slow beat 7750. The basics of the repair job will still be the same.
  6. I know, but it's such a minor thing. You will never see it without a loupe or a macro pic like I took. All in all, it is a great watch. I highly recommend it.
  7. That stem is about 4 times too long. It should be cut to approximately 12 mm. Start a little longer and work your way down to the right size. If you don't have some experience taking apart movements, I would not attempt the keyless works repair yourself. You obviously know how to remove the dial and hands. Once they are off, you will need to remove the date platform (3 screws) and the setting lever jumper (two screws). Then you need to push the sliding pinion up against the winding pinion (they both have gears that need to mesh) and secure the two in position with the yoke. Assuming you get the pinions back in place, you may have problems with the hour counter wheel moving out of position, as it sits free when the date platform is off (putting it back in position can be fun) and the hour hammer and hour hammer operating lever (and spring) are a PIA to put back if they jump out of position. It happens to me very time. Putting the date platform back on takes a little finesse and practice. I doesn't just drop back into place. The first time doing it is tough. You need to make sure that the hour counter wheel stays aligned, as well as two gears (don't know their names) that stay in the date platform and mesh with a third gear which is on stays on the main platform. As you can see, it is a little more complicated than you might think. If you are feeling brave and have the tools, you will need this. http://www.eta.ch/sw.../7750/7750.html Have fun Marty
  8. Well, I had ordered something else and canceled the order. A refund was not a option, so I ponied up the extra money and bought this. I didn't want to at the time, but I couldn't be happier ... incorrect hand stack and all
  9. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190364243366&ih=009&category=110498&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1
  10. Freddy, What is correct? I don't think I can get that close of a shot, but I can certainly check it for you. Marty
  11. See my mini review here. http://www.rwgforum...._1&#entry774908
  12. I know a review without pics is worthless, but I wanted to say that this thing is at least 318L steel!!! All kidding aside, the steel does look to be a little brighter and more like gen like. This is the second GMT ceramic that I have owned. Everything about this watch seems better. It screams quality. The bezel insert is very nice and recessed just right. The numbers are a brighter silver and seem to be better defined. The bezel has a nice gen like click and the case and bracelet are excellent. The "Rolex" engraving on the rehault is much more subtle, not painted black and looks correct (yes, it is still off at 9, but who is going to notice that?). The crown on the crystal disappears if you are not looking for it and I am not sure about this, but there looks to be some AR on the cyclops. The markings on the clasp looks to be engraved or if they are laser etched, the quality of the etching is much better. I got the "gen" ETA movement, which is running strong and the 24 hr hand is tracking correctly. This is the incorrect hand stack, which will always be a "tell" if you are looking for it, but I would prefer the reliability (knock on wood) of this model. The date alignment is about perfect and the crown and tube feel very gen like (the best I have seen on a rep for sure). There were no QC issues at all, except for a bulky bracelet screw, which was easily fixed. Josh really delivered on this one! Pic to follow this evening ... Thanks. Marty
  13. I need the three small chronograph hands. I have some other parts to trade (including a partial set of Val 72 hands) or will purchase outright. Thanks! Marty

  15. Ultimate GMT II ceramic with ETA movement
  16. Your item cleared United States Customs at 10:29 PM on January 13, 2010. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later. Maybe tomorrow
  17. Found this thread ... very interesting. http://watchmakingblog.com/2009/10/01/loupe-or-optvisor/
  18. Dumb question ... when you use a loupe, do you shut the other eye? If so, does that cause eye strain? Thanks.
  19. I am using a crappy headband magnifier that is a POS. I need to replace it. Should I learn to use a loupe or are there better headband magniifers out there? Who makes a good one? Thanks. Marty
  20. What's to get? VDB built himself a watch
  21. I did order it with the "gen" ETA movement. I guess that is a crap shoot too, but I figured it was definitely better than the Asian clone with the Rolex bridges, which seems to have many problems. I had ordered an Aquaracer 500m, but after pulling the trigger, realized that the watch had some issues. The biggest flaw is with the bezel. It is cast incorrectly. The "10" on the bezel is not centered correctly. It is closer to the "5" than the "15." This was confirmed by someone on Repgeek that owns the watch. That would have driven me The gen is also AR coated, where the rep is not. Josh incorrectly states on his website that the gen does not have AR. http://www.perfect-h...824-p-8012.html Josh's customer service was great as it always is. He was very patient in letting me pick out another watch. Marty
  22. Did I make the right call on this one? http://www.perfect-hour.com/rlgs00088-anni-black-asia-3186-serials-p-7669.html
