  1. I see!

Well I hope you guys are allright with all these noob questions, since I'm rather new to this. I'm afraid my watches will suffer death when I get my hands on the tools I just ordered. The problem is that opening the watches and figuring out what makes them work, is getting a lot more interresting than collecting ;)

Oh yeah, I know that feeling.....prepare to break some movements and bend some hands! Let me suggest messing around with some cheap ebay or flee market automatics first before you touch your beloved reps. Putting things back together and having them work is mighty satisfying though! Good luck.

  2. Wow great responses guys, thank you...But heres an idea that i'm sure others have had before adn maybe even attempted this...

How about getting this 007 rep that has correct He placement, and switching out dial bezel insert for regular SMP ? will that work?

And i thought only the crono SMP had the screws instead of pins, wich is incorrect?

I have thought about doing the swap, but you would need the dial, a seconds hand, a normal clasp, and a normal caseback. In the end I figured the new red letter SMP would be along soon enough and would have this corrected....still waiting!

The current normal SMP bracelets have screws too, the only pinned bracelets were on SMP's up to a year or so ago I believe (before I came at least). Also, the dealer WBK has been finding pinned SMP's with asian 21j's over at RWI. I am not sure if they are the correct "pin and sleaves" or just regular pressure pins.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Actually, the only SMPs I'm aware of with the He valve in the correct place were the '2005' 007 with the ST-18 Seagull movement, and the first run of black 'Pierce Brosnan's choice' SMPs with an Asia 21J movement. Both are now highly sought after for this reason.

That is the watch I meant, the pic is from Josh's site. Looks like much better He placement than the standard SMP. Perhaps not as good as the old one's you mentioned.

  4. Thank you once again The Zigmeister, I didn't know that there were clamps on the side. Once I got those it went in like butter.

The face is on, the hands are on (except for center seconds), and it is ticking away! Still a long way to go though...

I have to figure out what I want to do about the center seconds problem.

I am going to file the threads off of one of the stems I have and shorten it to make it a non-screw down crown since the rep crown is crummy and causes problems. By the way, I am guessing you unscrew the stem out of the crown counter-clockwise? I could not find instructions on how to seperate the two anywhere.

I noticed I scratched up the hour hand a bit too....oh well.

Still I am very excited it is going this well so far, thanks again to The Zigmeister for giving me multiple tips since I first considered doing this project. Cheers!

  5. Well after tinkering around with some asian 21j's (some generously donated by fellow members), I decided I wanted to try upgrading a broken Seasmaster chrono I had to a Swiss 7750 like a few brave and skilled members have done lately...

I got the hands off without breaking or scratching anything (phew)...

I got the face off the old movement....

I even swapped the date wheels so it would be correct (lots of anxiety there)....

But when I just tried to mount the face on the swiss 7750, I can't get it to go the last mm or two down flat against the movement.

So here are my questions for those smarter than I,

Does mounting the face require a special technique?

Should I stop being a wimp and just push down harder?

Do I have to file the feet down?

Any other tips for the journey would be appreciated too.....Thanks, and pray for me!

  6. This is my first ever Sub. When I started this hobby, I never thought I would own a Rolex rep because of the public's image of them. It took less than a year for its classic beauty to wear me down. I bought this from z80. It is a combination of a Sash's Best, and older TWG, and a older still Abay. The details from z80 can be found in his thread http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=18956&hl=. I loved it as soon as I had it sized up and on the wrist for the first time. It fits like a glove and looks incredible. I have been reading tons of posts about subs for the past few days to learn more about the many variations in the reps. I can't afford a $300+ MBW or franken, so this one is going to be a keeper for me for a long time. I am happy to share some pictures from my first set with my new (to me) Submariner!

  7. In the previous auction:

Q: Do you have the warranty cards, certificates, or books to go along with the watch? If so, could you please include pictures of those? Also, could you include a pictures of the box? Thanks

    Jan-24-07

A: Hello, unfortunately, I dont have the warranty cards nor the crtificates, I guarantee that the watch is authentic or double your money back. I bought it from a jewellery in Cancun from the owner but he didnt have the box and papers. I had it checked twice from an authorized Omega dealer and they agreed that the watch is absolutely authentic. THANKS A LOT FOR ASKING!
