  1. Although I kind of like most Breitlings they often seem to make the bezels and crowns/buttons too ornamental IMHO. BTW its funny to see how many airplane stewards wear Breitling, I bet you try to pass yourselves off as pilots when you go to the Blue Oyster Bar to meet the builder, the traffic cop and the indian and the one I always forget. Sure ain't the squaw. Plumber?

My favorite is the B1 professional (although it should be sandblasted of course :-) UTC is genious as it is physically separated from the piece you adjust/change/mess with. Even got a countdown timer which is the most practical bezel IMO.

Granted many will dislike it because its quartz. To me, that is putting romanticism before utility. Thats fine - we´re all slightly amish, and all slightly gay :whistling:

    hey guys take it easy,

  2. If the Deepsea is too small for you, I think you are out of luck as far as Rolex goes.

p.s. The era of the big watch ended some time ago. I believe the current (fashion) trend is towards small, thin 3-hand watches. (Of course, classic Rolexes, in the 34-38mm range, are always in style.)

  3. I have a white dialled B-1 rep if you are interested. As mentioned by others, it is not accurate but it might suffice for what you require. Both analogue and digital functions all work fine.

Let me know, and I will post some more pics.

    Cheers :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Thanks for the kind offer! I'm still gathering info but will shoot you a pm when what needs to be known is known!!

  4. Hi all,

Looking for said watch for (a)practical and (b)looks purposes and found an alleged rep here:

    click

however I gotta real bad feeling about the site and the pic and lack of pics for that matter...So I'm looking for encouragement regarding staying away from it, and also asking wether we know of a good source for a B1 pro rep??

    Thanks all,

    mg

EDIT: Having checked the speedmasters and other easily identifiable watches it seems it is a scamsite deluxe, probably well known for it too. However the question about a good dealer for this particular B1 remains:)

  5. I stick with PeteM....maybe for a different reason:

this is a community and remembering watch....I would feel bad to wear a rep of this special piece, it does not "feel" right!

Just my 0.02$.....and the outcome is a bad one.

    Theo

Hmmm - really like this piece in an "ultimate simplistic oldskool pam toolwatch" kind of way but somehow feel uneasy about this rep for PeteM+Madred reasons. A fake watch is one thing...but a fake relationship to a community is... kind of like going to the funeral of a total stranger...

hmmm agree with stormtrooper4 as well....might get it if anyway

    Edit: Gen pic added

  6. Not really a fan of this watch

    ...until now!!! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

EDIT: Excuse me if the question is silly, but has ANYONE EVER used the tachy scale? IMHO it seems even less useful than a compass bezel. Come to think, I hardly ever use the most common one, the elapsed time bezel, the only useful bezel is (IMO) the countdown one, but that's the rarest of all...anyone care to enlighten me on this? I know divers might use elapsed time, but...I guess what I´m asking is wether the bezel is purely a romantic thing or if we use it anymore... :pardon:

  7. I agree. I have the same issue with vintage panerais and even custom projects and also fantasy watches.

To me it would be cool of I could first search for "Rolex" and then search a subforum like "vintage". This sub function could contain "vintage" "new models" "custom" and "fantasy" for example, and posters would simply tag their posts... Heck, I'd like to be able to browse both Panerai and Rolex vintage-posts at the same time btw...it would be cool to be able to save certain choices such as "Panerai" "Rolex" and "Vintage" as a personal setting kind of thing.

  8. I haven't seen that you changed it...in italian it's correct "FULMINE" not "FELMINE"...and then we wonder how the chinese people make mistakes in writing and engraving such things on the cases of our beloved reps!

    Hi dadog,

You are correct, it has not been changed on the sketch yet! Thanks a lot for setting me straight,

  9. Hi all,

From the Department of weird steampunk tools:

The idea: I like the Nostrum, but dislike sub-dials and blank bezels. So I though I'd retro-engineer something functional into the weird and wacky arsenal of vintage Panerai warfare equipment. Came up with the less known sister of MARE NOSTRUM, the COLPO DI FELMINE.

    post-2870-022960600 1284378690.png

The function: 1943: You're performing a high-altitude-low-opening parachute-jump or climbing the Navarone mountain when a thunderstorm's comin' :whistling: When you see the flash of the lightning, you press the 2 o'clock pusher, starting the centre counter hand. Seconds later, when you hear the thunder, press stop. Reading the numbers on the bezel, you see how many .kilometers away the thunderstorm is!!!

The name: "Colpo di Felmine" means "thunderbolt" or "struck by lightning". It also means "struck with love (at first sight)". I thought this would resonate with the paradoxes of "military folklore" (girls-names for weapons etc) and also resonate the sound and meaning of "Mare Nostrum", which similarly folkloristic translates to "our home the sea"

    :boat:

The dial: Resembles compass. Would be printed on matte side of transparent foil and "backlit" w/ vintage colour lume.

The bezel: 1/1 and 1/2 kilomers distance to thunderstorm (The rule is 1 km pr 3 secs). Waterslide decal, lumed underneath if possible?

The hands: (not shown) blue hrs & mins from nostrum rep, new blue bigsecs hand similar to the one on nostrum, but three times the size (found an old blue boiler gauge needle).

Glass: Hoping to find a bigenough sternreuz hws.

    Case: Beat-up & then beadblasted

Strap: Grey vintage leather w/ blasted GPF.

My opinion: Loved designing it. Funny [censored]. Taps into dreams. It's willfully silly in it's "hardlyness" of utility, but so is the Arktos. Problem: I don't think it looks vintage enough, especially the bezel. Shame it doesn't measure meters (to do this it would need two secs hands, one of which to do one revolution per second and that's outta the league of everyone I know)

FEEDBACK ON HOW TO MAKE IT MORE VINTAGE OR "BELIEVABLE" WELCOME!

    mg

  10. it has a 7159 dial, but yet has a 7031 case back...wrong! Plus the hands are all wrong! More, the lume area should not have rounded corners...they look like the most current NDT 7031 hands and it has a 7734 in it..the 7159 should have a V234...oh and the crystal is in the wrong position...this watch is F*cked!!!

    x2

BTW - do we know anything about when the rep will be out?

  11. Guys, sorry if this is old news

    - stumbled upon this via homageforum, 100 bucks. Crown neck is better that the "other" bersion. Bezel seems to be slighly better, but it still lacks a lot of teeth vs gen, it's too tall plus there is a screw error. The super downsides include quartz movt with wrong (subdial) functions; it's sterile and the dial is horrible - -

  12. Looks very nice!

The Air-King is really one of the great classics in a respectfully modest way, not presuming to out-cool others.

Naive as it may be, somehow I tend to trust people who wear these watches, as they propose the idea of a chip off the old block ;)

  13. I know this isn't going to be everyones cup of tea. I thought long and hard on this one. Here's a bit of the back story of my thought process when kicking this concept around with PBdad. Though I think much of the work here is amazing it does baffle me a bit in the same way this project baffles you. The effort and expense of trying to recreate something that already exists was not what I was after. I think the biggest tell is usually the person wearing the watch but that's another discussion entirely. My hobby is not watches but car customization. Stock anything never really did it for me. Having something that everyone else has is not something I'd be attracted to so this would be a very natural progression for me. I wanted something different, unique, larger than 40mm, vintage and custom at the same time. Again as in cars what's one of the first things you do? mod the engine, so we dropped the super charger in there that was the reason for the gen movement. I know this kind of thinking is not what is usually presented here but I can't help to wonder what fantastic work could come out of the amazingly talented people here if they stopped following the pattern of what already exists and just let their talent and imagination take them where it will.

I love it bt - that is to say - I love that you did this so that others could see it! Any out-of the box idea is welcome because any idea, good or bad, can trigger something else. That's evolution, baby.
