  1. I just had my watch DLC coated, so gen crown and tube is not an option now. I'll probably get a spare gen crown coated next time round.
  2. Hi Guys, I'm going to waterproof my UPO whilst I have it decased. I know how to seal the following: 1) epoxy the HEV value 2) glue sapphire crystal 3) silicon grease the caseback o-ring How does one go about sealing the Crown? there doesn't seem to be a gasket in the crown-tube and there's nothing inside the crown. Do I just apply some silicon grease on the threading and let friction do its thing? I'd appreciate the advice from people that have waterproof their watches. thx
  3. I'm thinking about getting a sample crystal made this week to the spec in my picture above. Do you guys know if the AR coat should be clear or purple-ish (like the planet ocean)?
  4. +1 on Mary. She should be able to get you a UPO. Be aware of the new black dial with incorrect text spacing. I think the older dial may be harder to get hold of now. Also try Lay at replicamake.com,,, i contacted him earlier this week about his UPO with clone ETA (about $230). Lay also does a full waterproof test and movement check before dispatching. *I'm getting my HBB all-black from him. I highly recommend the UPO... I will have 2 by the end of next week
  5. I got a quote for a double-AR, flat sapphire crystal 28.8mm x 4.5mm. Price was around $30-$35 a piece, however minimum order was around 200pcs. It'll cost around $42 for 100pcs. I don't think they'll be demand for 100 pcs. I've not asked about a 20pcs run, but guess it'll be $50+ if I can convince the manufacturer to accept the order. Are we sure the factories won't be fixing this as soon as possible? Toro has advertised a ploprof+SS strap with sapphire crystal. Maybe its fixed?! I think this design for a replacement crystal would be cool:
  6. good news,,, i managed to get a used 'as new' UPO on rubber strap + extra dial for approx $180. Also its sold as a Swiss ETA
  7. scotty, my longterm plan is to make it a stealth UPO. DLC/PVD coated and I think it'll look good on black rubber.
  8. thanks for your replies. I will settle for a clone ETA. It'll be used as a project watch and will probably get serviced by a local watch guy. Mike
  9. Omega clan,,, I want your opinion on this. I recently bought a UPO Swiss ETA (SS bracelet, white txt on blk) and like it so much that I want to buy another but on a rubber strap. Now I payed waaayy more ($350+) than I should had for my UPO so now I'm shopping around. Question is,,, should I settle for another Swiss ETA (approx $280) or Asian Close 2824-2 (approx $230)? Many owners believe dealers are sending Asian clones anyway as you can hardly tell the difference. The dials, hands, casing, crystal etc are exactly the same, only mvt differs. Even my current dealer is advising to go with the Asian. What's your take on this? I've searched past threads and this has never been addressed. thx Mike
