  1. I have to laugh a bit because all of the straps I've found that I like so far are more expensive than the watch! HAHA You don't really notice the printing issue unless you look closely at it. The problem was where they printed over the raised areas of the "traditional Glashutte ribbing". The font is engraved and gold filled on the gen. The gen movement is actually not as exciting. I actually like the looks of the rep movement better! More of the movement on the gen is covered by the plate, although what you can see is gorgeous! The rep just has more going on. The gen beat rate is 21,600 so the rep is pretty close. The gen has a power reserve of 55 hours. We'll see how the rep stacks up. Gen Calibre L051.1 Gen 1815
  2. You sure are! I was a little disappointed though... The version on Josh's site shows those two winding gears as being made of brass. I'm thinking about swapping those out when I finally have it serviced. I think the contrast with the brass gears looks much better. It is a nice looking movement yeah?
  3. Just purchased an A. Lange & Sohne model 1815 from Joshua. Six days from shipping to my door was speedy delivery! Haven't seen one of these on the forum yet and I wasn't sure what to expect. It's inexpensive at $108.00. The rep has a solid 316 case so it feels substantial and well made in your hand. Comparing it to photos in the Lange catalog, the dial face, hands, and case are actually well reproduced. The tail on the seconds hand at 6 is a couple of millimeters shorter than gen but not noticeably so. All of the printing on the dial face is accurate and crisp. Obviously the movement is far from gen. This rep uses a beautiful Asian Unitas 6498 17J manual hand wind movement, 21600 bpm. The printing on the movement is a little inconsistent. Some letters are printed thicker than others. I think this is due to trying to print over the textured plate. After running for 3 days, the movement is keeping time at approximately -5 sec per day. Not bad! Dimensions of the rep case is 42 x 11, gen is 40 x 8.9. Crown lettering is a little rough but you only notice it if you look closely at it. The synthetic sapphire crystal has a nice AR coating on the inside. I definitely have to find a new strap... The strap that comes with it is typically plastic feeling. It does have a quick deployment buckle that comes with it but it feels light weight and kind of flimsy. It works... just feels fragile. I removed the logo buckle from the clasp and it works just fine on its own. I took it around to a few local watch dealers/jewelery stores trying to find a decent alligator strap. Unanimously, NONE of the store clerks had ever heard of A. Lange & Sohne! The only exception was the guy with the goofy hair at the watch kisok store in the mall! Joshua does have the white dial face with blue hands version as well. The white dial is the only model available in the current Lange catalog and the only dial in this model I've seen. So, I'm not sure if the black face is just fantasy. I think it looks great so I don't really care. Overall, I love it! It has a nice clean design, feels good on the wrist, and seems to be running smoothly. It is on the large side but doesn't wear very big (My wrist size is around 7in). Not bad for a watch that's only a tic over a hundred dollars. What do you think? Here's some photos for ya.
  4. I'm game! We'll need a diversion... Perhaps a food fight at the hot dog stand...
  5. I'm really surprised that I haven't seen any on the forum. Wonder why they aren't more popular? You should check out the actual B.R.M. website. It's a playground for watch fanatics! Well, B.R.M. fanatics anyway.
  6. aaAAAARRGH... Just when I thought I had my next watch all picked out, you posted this! That's BEAUTIFUL! Sigh... Now I have to own one... It's amazing the difference it makes when someone posts pics of their watch on here vs trying to picture it through all the watermarks on the web sites. Thank for the pics!
  7. Woodinville! It is a small world! Sounds like I have lots of neighbors on here. Any guitar players in the bunch?
  8. You're most welcome. I think they're pretty sweet! If you do end up getting a B.R.M., post some wristies! I haven't seen any on the forums so you might be the first. The great thing about B.R.M. is that they have SO many variations and custom options that I don't see how you could ever be called out on a rep.
  9. Welcome to the forum! I haven't seen many watches that fit your description. Like P4GTR says, most crystals are either raised or flair out. The first one that comes to mind might be something from B.R.M. (Bernard Richards Manufacture Racing Watch). Their watches have roots in motorsports; MotoGP, Formula 1, etc.. They do appear to have a slightly recessed crystal and are fairly substantial at 44mm x 12mm. It's been a long time since I've handled a gen B.R.M. so I may be wrong on the crystal. Joshua has nice reps of them ranging from $98.00 - $108.00. A few have working chronograph movements. Check out the B.R.M. website and compare to Joshua's offerings. They appear to be pretty accurate. A B.R.M. chronograph is definitely on my short list. Hope this helps. You can find Joshua's page in the links section. The UPO (Ultimate Planet Ocean) is awesome! Mine hasn't left my wrist since its arrival. (Photo is of a gen watch but thought a little eye candy was in order)
  10. Wow! Thanks for all the welcomes! When I'm home, I'm usually found meandering about the Portland/Vancouver area. Sounds like I have neighbors here. That's kinda fun! I have one of those jobs that sends me traveling about the country, which is sort of how I got into this hobby in the first place. Found myself in NY City early this year and wandered down Canal Street on the way to Little Italy. The reps found there were laughable but it started me thinking there MUST be something better. Purchased my first rep (a Breitling B01) in Times Square. It's not accurate... Two of the sub dials are not numbered even remotely correctly, but it looked cool, the AR is great, and I thought it would make a good beater watch. I started surfing the web looking for better and found you lot. What a wonderful community it is! Good people and great information. I've always had a passion for watches but once you own a gen... what then? It's beautiful and functions as it should but that's it. Through RWG I've discovered it doesn't stop at wearing it, staring at it, and rubbing it with a soft polishing cloth. Frankens and mods and getting to tweak the movements or swap them out entirely?! HAH! I purchased a Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 16, a UPO, and I have a beautiful A Lange & Sohne on the way with three more sitting in the checkout bin with Joshua; decisions decisions... Thanks to lanikai, I now have the source for gen parts to mod my UPO. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing but my watch obsession just found fuel and a completely new direction. I would never touch a gen watch but being able to modify a rep and make it my own is fantastic! Just found a source for green bezel inserts for Omega Seamasters, including the UPO (source: omega bezel search on ebay. Black, orange, green, and blue). Okay, sure it's fantasy for a UPO but so what? I think it would look cool and I don't try to pass these off as gen anyway. So, I'm planning on a future UPO with green accents. So many watches... So little time. Thank you again for all of your welcomes! I am looking forward to becoming a part of your community here!
  11. Nice casual summer day... Must be the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 16! In limited green of course.
