  1. I try to keep my shoes below $1000 (yes yes yes, just like watches these are moving targets.. :bangin: )

Before dropping couple of hundreds on these, check out the 'last' the shoe's built on for proper fit. Visit your nearest AD for this :)

    Based on my personal experience:

    1. Carmina FTW - Fortunate to have some shells from them (two of 'em boots) and I can't stop buying em. Tried them on a trip to the EU once--built like a tank.

    2. Alden a close second. Fortunate to have 4 pairs of their shells.

    3. Allen Edmonds -- Fortunate to have 2 pairs of these

I tried Edward Green too, they look wonderful, but their RTW lasts are too narrow for me duck feet.

Gaziano and Girling feels overpriced to me for what you get, but some folks like it.

Some people swear by Vass, but I just didn't get a chance to try them out IRL.

  2. I saw and handled this in an AD once. It's _LIGHT_ because it's made from titanium. I read a post here about factories in china not doing Ti based because of the high cost?

On the other hand, it seems like you can get away with a beadblasted SS finish, but it will still be heavier than the gen, if that floats your boat ;)

  3. Not my words, but maybe can help:

"You can't lose what you never have"

    Here's a story:

A couple once gambled their live savings on horses. They only have $100 left when they decided to stop.

The next day, the husband said to the wife: "you know what, I will try again today"

SO the husband went to the horse races again, and won $1000!

He continued to bet: $1000 becomes $10000, $10000 becomes $100000,

...and he finally went home with $1000000

On his way home, he saw there was a "double dare" card game. Wow! he can double his money he thinks. He is lucky today!

So he tried the game out: and BAM, LOSES ALL HIS $1000000

He went home, his wife greeted him: "How did it go darling? Did you win?"

The husband replied: "Darling, I lost the $100 too..."

    ;)

"You can't lose what you never have"

  4. +1 on the UN Marine Chronometre. At 3500 used its a _steal_

+1 on any Zenith with el primero movement

..you can save up till 10k, but why stop there? You can go further up the 20-40k range and get even more options!! ;)

I told myself that my next gen would be an F.P. Journe.

Ubi is rite on the moolah here: "Whatever floats your boat" is prolly the answer. Buy a watch that will make _you_ feel happy. Don't listen to us and our wet dreams :))

BUT, IMHO, whichever you get, find the right balance of 'I got a super gen now' vs 'I can only afford instant noodles now'

There's a gorgeous SS UN Marine Chronometre on bracelet for sale on TZ right now; $3500 and would be a great looking watch on a strap as well.

I like the idea of an older Zenith El Primero also; Zenith is a phenominal value for the money!

Though I also think a nice 16800 with original matte dial might be an option to consider too (gee, dunno why I would think that ;) ).

Decisions like this are difficult as the choice of watch is purely subjective to the buyer; depending on if you want modern, vintage etc. there are a ton of options out there within your price range. However, if I were in your position, I'd keep your current favorite to wear as a daily, sell off the rest of the collection and save up to push your budget into the $10k - $12k range. This will give you something to wear while opening up your options even more.

    Just my $0.02...

  5. WHOA! Looks gen to me. Good find, pretty funny too I might say!

If it's a rep, it's a rep I wanna buy. Look at the finishing on the movement and the blue whatchamacallit wheels on the left side... yummyy

Of course, I'll open the caseback and remove the stickers before they fall into the movement :D :D :D

Second pic is a different watch. And yes the first rotor pic looks like a rep. :)
  6. If you want to file your lever tip, start by taking the CG screws off ;) then you can use a toothpick and a small jewelers hammer to drive the pin out. The rest should be easy...

BUT Before you do that, check to see if the crown tube is too far from the case. Pictures would help diagnose what the real problem is.

  7. I'm going to streamline my order on this :)

    What's the lug/buckle size? 20/18mm ?

now go get yourself a custom gator strap from HK tan - nice and super thick!!! but dressy

and anyone who has any concept of watches will think its a 20k watch

intimidate all comers to the big business meeting showdown

  8. Probably will be, but, it won't work any better than the others as long as that A7750 is in it. It's like buying a 7 series BMW with a four cylinder engine that has burnt valves and worn out rings. All it would do is look pretty but blow smoke.

Huh? Are you telling us to get the "Real 7-series" AKA, the real deal instead? You're in the wrong forum pal

In the rep world, all we're gonna get is a "7-series" outer bodied watch, and god knows what kind of engine.... whatever kind it is, it's still not the "7-series" engine...

That all-ceramic one is a beaut... yummy

  9. Snobs and their watches.. go on, justify all you want Paneristis..

I think they feel threatened by the existence of the reps...

I have both types of PAMs.. of course more reps..

who gives a flying F*** if it's real or not... it's damn nice and I'm wearin' it.

  10. All,

    Good news!

Palp is back! but just like all of us after a vacation,

he is still trying to catch up on his full pm box, and

he has some watches to work on and some crowns to finish.

He told me it will take some time before he can post on the forum regularly again.

I first want to put all my strength in getting the work done on which members are waiting before posting

    and reading pms

He is working hard on all this and nobody needs to be worried about their watch or crown. Go Palp!
