  4. There's a very cool tutorial on Homageforum about doing this with an eraser and a toothpick. http://www.homageforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=1419

  8. Well said. I've rebuilt my 1963 Land Rover from the front bumper to the back. There's not a bolt or hose or gasket on it that's more than 5 years old. It's loaded with aftermarket parts from all over the world. I think the only original parts left are the Lucas ignition switch and some glass and sheet metal. So is it still a Land Rover?
  9. Looks like he pushed a magic button, our Unread Topics is working again! Thanks Boss!
  10. I emailed the Boss in his Fortress of Solitude; he'll fix it. Eventually.....
  11. Yeah, you know what I really kick myself over? I had a Jean Claude Killy about 20 years ago and got rid of it because the dial was stained underneath where the hours hand had sat for a couple decades. *kick* *kick* *kick*
  12. Ah, it's just another well loved member of the stable. I don't even remember what year it's from, it was about the time when they transitioned to Quickset dates. Purty, huh? Edit: just checked, it's from 1977.
  13. Beautiful! And is she a leftie? Boy are you a lucky papa.
  14. I have to call REP on this case. Here is a 6536/1 case, proven to be from 1958. I'm no genius but I'd guess Rolex would use VERY similar cases for the 6536/1 and the 6542. There might be subtle differences but the overall dimensions should be very similar. Compare your photos to mine. Specifically look at the distance on the back from the crown to the "lip" where it bumps up to meet the caseback Mine is very narrow and yours is very wide. Also look at the side opposite the crown: from the edge of the case to the "lip" should be VERY narrow. Unless the caseback on the 6542 is much smaller than the 6536/1, the case is much bigger than mine. I doubt that, because the 1030 and 1065 movements are the same ligne and so will come out through the same size hole.
  15. And I just ordered another one of his tropic 127s for the Nastymariner.
  16. There... fixed it for ya. Years ago someone did an experiment to see if a 703 crown could be milled/tapered on the back to look like a 702. The old 703s and stubby Cartel crown guards made a tall 703 look clownish. None of the gen spec 703s would work because the walls are too thin. But a stock MBW crown from years ago was the trick, because they use tiny tubes and very thick walls. So you can machine a taper into the crown on the case side and it looks a LOT like an old narrow 702 crown. Who wants to give it a try?
  17. "Life is Beautiful" .... that cat needs a tat! "Mice is Nice"
