  1. That's the way it works here in my state in the South, after 60 days, it basically belongs to the pawn shop, they hold it another 30 days and then it goes in the display case, and it can legally be sold. If the Pawner shows up before the 90 days he can redeem it, but the fees and interest by then are pretty high. After 90 days, he has to pay the full price that they are asking. Like was said, the guys who run or own the shop have a pretty good idea as to who will come back and redeem their stuff and those that will never come back. Unless the guy who pawned it has intentions of returning and redeeming his watch, he was and idiot to not sell it outright! Of course if it's hot, he will take the 500 and run. Amazingly, the vast majority of folks like this guy don't have the foggiest idea as to the true value of watches. To them a watch is a watch. They probably know that a Rolex is more valuable than a Timex or Casio, but they don't know how much more. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Guaranteed if brother A offers these modded divers, they will be the best that you can build, outside of spending a ton on genuine parts. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Great find, that's going to be a really nice watch with tons of character. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Where are you finding them? Hard to find in the USA. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk p>Go to google, type in ETA 2824 vs Seagull 2130 I believe the second article will be a WatchUSeek article that compares the ETA 2824 to the Seagull 2130 and another Chinese clone. This is a very good in depth breakdown by a watchsmith with lots of photos and comparisons between the three movements. It was done in 2008, but the information is still pertinent. Should answer your questions. I put a Seagull 2130 in one of my AP Divers a year or so back and it has been a very reliable and accurate movement. It was used to replace a slow beat conversion that never worked properly Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. A good quality in focus photo would be essential to even guess at what it's worth !! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. I agree with Qtip, if you are wanting a 16610, about the only realistic alternative is to build one. The weak link is the bracelet. Almost every one has a huge tell, the mid link part of the end link on the genuine is gold, so the exposed sides are gold. The rep bracelets have a plated or wrapped S/S mid link that is not gold on the sides, so the S/S is exposed. Mymanmatt has a solution for that problem, at least he did with mine. The bracelet not withstanding, you can build a really nice 16613 using gen dial, insert, crown and, aftermarket 18k bezel, Here is mine.
  8. Go over to the Vintage Rolex Forum marketplace. Search Tudor bracelet, or maybe Tudor 79280 bracelet. I see them for sale with the correct endlinks and Tudor clasp come up for sale fairly often there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. I agree 100% Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk My old ugly watch doesn't stand a chance with all these beauties! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Pretty darn hard to follow up after those photos above!!! But here's my take on this deal. Sounds really fishy to me, another "cock and bull" story from someone who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar on another forum, got banned and now he comes over here and wants the mods here to intercede on his behalf. No one is going to ban you here for something stupid that occurred on another forum, but I can guarantee you will be scrutinized extra hard for a while. If you turn out to be a good contributing member, then all the better, but if you don't you will be shown the door here as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. J, I think what they are doing is trying to prevent hoarding of parts. Since everyone knows that it's just a matter of time before ETA movements and parts dry up completely, it would not surprise me to see watchmakers try to lay in a big supply of commonly used parts. The guy who has the parts will control the business. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Outstanding work!! And a beautiful watch as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  15. Very interesting article. What is amazing is the fact that the Daytonas were real "dogs" when they were introduced.. Rolex was really swimming "against the tide" when they introduced a manual wind, non date watch in and era when just about every watch buyer was looking for an automatic, date watch. That was evidenced by sale dates on the certificates that were years after the watches were built. I bought a 6365 in about 1980-81, not a Newman, white dial brand new with box and papers. I kept it for maybe 2 months, couldn't get used to the no date and manual wind. I traded it back to the jeweler I bought it from straight up for a new 1680 Sub. Now the same 6365 could be traded for a sack full of subs!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. This thing with Swatch has been going on for a long time. If they had gotten their way, ETAmovements would have been completely removed from sale several years back. The Swiss watch authority stepped in and got the time rolled back. Looks like the string has run out and the removal of ETA's from general sales is almost upon us. There are some viable alternatives, Sellita, Myiota and Seagull all make good movements and are available. Lots of the smaller boutique watch manufacturers are already moving on to these alternative movements . I have a MKII GMT which is a homage to the Rolex 6542 on order and the owner says that it will be limited to 300 pieces because he bought 300 ETA 2893-2 movements, and he can't get more. He probably could, but the price would more than likely increase the price of the watch by several hundred dollars each. Since there are millions of watches out there with ETA movements there will still be plenty of older watches that can be cannibalized for movements, but I would expect that as the movement supply dries up and demand stays high, the prices will go up accordingly. It's all about supply and demand. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Is that the only link that's removable? If not, I would try another one. Looks like that one is either loctited to the max or it's cross threaded and really stuck. If you'd strip the slot out then you will never get it out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Nasty rainy Halloween here. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. That's what happens when you forget your punctuation lessons Mike you naughty boy. Canada, Legend becomes Canada Legend. At any rate, Rollo, I hope it works out for you. If you are lucky, you will get a watch back with a reasonably reliable movement. as I said before, it's really a crap shoot with the sec@12 A7750 movements.
  20. Looks nice!! The only thoughts are the lume on the hands. From the second photo, the lume looks grey. Is that just the light or are they different from the lume on the dial and inner bezel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. My friend, if I didn't already have one with the PM80 movement and crystal AR, I would take you up on this in and instant!! Folks, great mods to take the diver to the top, and from one of the best and most respected members of our community. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Another factoid, the AP ROO has a notoriously unreliable movement. Trust me, I know from experience. Legend has one of mine that has been back and forth across the Pacific twice , and another that made three trips across the USA To a repair guy in PA., it's sitting on my desk, still not fixed !! Great paperweight. I totally agree with MOB, sending back to China is fraught with problems, all of which were adequately discussed in the above posts. And like MOB said he will be the guy getting a PM for help when things go south. BTW in case you didn't know MOB is one of the best and most proactive moderators on this forum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
