  1. Hello all you Rolex enthusiasts! I've decided I need a new date wheel for my Red Sub and I found a couple aftermarket ones on ebay. Now, here's where I need your help... I am clueless about the date wheel world. I found this WHITE one and this SILVER one. I do know that gen movements turn the dial the opposite way of rep movements. So here are the questions:

-will these work or will are they for gen movements?

    -white or silver? And why?

Any other information you'd like to throw in, hit me with it!

  2. and that's the wrong period crown for a vintage.

not to brag or anything. But if you're a WIS, you can snipe things like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=180642601297&si=ycNPdAoTbc%252FguG8SNZJGImeb2Bo%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

    I won a genuine 702 crown and tube for 20 bucks =D

Any suggestion for a 1680 datewheel? And white or silver date wheel?

By the way... sick deal on the crown and tube!

  3. im working on some MBK cgs right now, the inside needs some working, take it down a bit and square it against the base. if youve never done it before you will make a mess of it and *think* it looks good. practice on a junker or outsource it. check out lots of pics because there is also a lot of variation. dont forget to observe the way it looks and relates from all angles. if possible find a store with the gen for sale, hold it and study it.

Other people's MBWs? Have you done a lot ofCG work before? I definitely don't plan on doing it myslef, I would pay someone to do it.

I've never seen a real one before... <_<

  4. Okay, so I've added the CG work to the list of work needed... but a more pressing issue: the date wheel. The font of the date wheel is far too skinny. Suggestions?

New date wheel? Overlay? Regardless, I need some information about the numbers and stuff... I've been doing a lot of reading and open numbers, closed numbers, etc. Does it matter? I'm so confused!!!!!!!!!!!! :bangin:

  5. Oh, yeah, I totally forgot one question... I want to pick up a 2846 slow beater, but can anyone tell me where/how to get a date wheel that is correct Rolex font? Or do I need to find a date wheel overlay? All help appreciated!

I would also be interested in a date wheel with the correct font... mine looks too skinny. Bill, do you know if this is the case? I know it's difficult without pictures (I have one jmb took that I can post this evening)...

A gen date wheel is for sale in parts forum but it's a little rich for my blood (at this point, at least)

  6. looks great so far -

now pics of the CG side please ;)

    cheers,

    Frank

Frank, let me know what you think of the crown guard. I have absolutely no idea what it should look like at the moment...

And thank you to the rest of you guys! Justin said it's getting shipped out today! Here's another picture he took of it.

  7. Any way I can service them myself? Wouldn't mind trying on one of them, as these are older.

I couldn't answer that for you. I have a shotty U-boat rep that I took apart just for fun... mainly because I didn't care if it got effed up. As for servicing movements, personally, I wouldn't try, I'd make it worse. If they are older watches and you don't care about messing it up even more, I say for it! :drinks:

  8. Just wait. I asked J to have the caseback read:

    "To My Darling Jocelyn,

    On Our 50th Anniversary

    Love, Melvin

    OYSTER GAS ESCAPE VALVE

    PATENT PENDING"

    APRIL FOOL!

How did you know that's what I wanted!? :bleh:

So... it's done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ships out tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! Photo courtesy of jmb...
