  1. Real credit is deserved to Admin for getting the upgrade done in the limited downtime there was (even though it seemed like forever to me!) - I don't envy you setting and sticking to that limit... Updating a large, complex and busy system such as this (including integrating new add-on modules/plugins) is not something I'd like to attempt in a rush, especially considering all the work involved. If there were a couple of you making the changes in that time, well done! If you did it alone, then serious props to you for getting it functional so quickly. I think it will be well received once people have got used to the changes and any remaining (minor) issues are sorted. One very minor comment: m.rwg.cc on android with webkit based browser (after cache clear) redirects to the full address, and in the default RWG (desktop) theme. While it detects its a mobile browser and offers 'use mobile version' next to the theme-changer button, clicking this leaves it on the default RWG theme. Clicking 'change theme' and explicitly selecting IP.Board Mobile from the list then sets it to the mobile skin. A couple of minor code changes should sort this if it's the same on other mobiles... For anyone not getting the mobile skin on their smartphone - click 'change theme' at bottom left and choose 'IP.Board Mobile' and you're sorted.
  2. While checking out the history of the watch that got me here (the venerable Omega Speedmaster - still noobly hunting for my fave rep), I stumbled on the attached pdf which gives a brilliantly written history of the gen Speedmaster along with full explanation of the movement components and how they all work together to make it the watch that more or less saved the Apollo 13 mission. Serious props to the original author (though I've not linked to its proper location given the nature of this forum). It's a long read, but I have learned so much about the workings of a this particular gen chrono movement while reading it I think it's been worth the time. So far, it's the best single description I've found of how a movement all fits together and works. Anyone anything also worth studying? I can see my OCD veering rapidly towards trying to understand various movements (an interesting diversion for me when its all about bits and bytes normally). Oh dear... Hope this hasn't been posted here before, it didn't turn up after a few quick related searches. (Mods: let me know if it's a problem posting a pdf here and I'll just link to it) The Right Stuff - Inside the Omega Speedmaster.pdf
  3. Nice bit of 8-bit retro in your name there...

  4. An Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow ('ish it turns out, bit of a fantasy watch - but I like it) and Rolex Sea-Dweller, both from the economy range.
  5. That there Speedy is awesome, the dial on the SMP very bluetiful (sic), the GMT nicely subtle. Like them all.
  6. Hi Ninjagaiden - I've had a good experience from start to finish so far overall. Have continued to research and learn what to look in a good rep from here, and am so pleased I found this community before making rash decisions on poor quality or scam purchases. One minor query with the dealer about one of the two watches before posting the promised proper review and wristies - feel free to PM me in the meantime. As mentioned, the purchase was more about the experience (which as a noob was quite exciting) than the actual watches, and I was surprised and pleased to get QC pics/dialogue given the price point of each. When finally shipped, arrived really well packaged and in good time - good experience overall. Brakes on for a little while now as I decide what to go for next and from where (probably a 42mm PO next, my wrist couldn't handle the UPO JKay mentions). But so many catch my eye...
  7. Thanks for the thoughts on this guys. I do like the look of it, even though it's a bit of a fantasy watch and also turned out to be a quartz during QC (is anyone laughing yet?)... Didn't like the offered automatic alternative (it was considerably different - not Broad-Arrow like at all, but probably a better standard Speedmaster likeness even with the colouring ). The first example Stormtrooper posted above is a real looker. Still waiting for an outcome at the moment. Am beginning to understand that patience is a big part of this new hobby! A dealer review in the relevant trusted dealers section and wristie pics promised when everything's sorted. Might go get a UPO 42mm from Joshua to tide me over while I wait
  8. 85 people looked, and no-one wants to give an opinion..?! I went for it anyway - as I say it's a total bargain - but I'd still be interested in the more experienced member's thoughts on this (even if not positive). I am trying to learn after all... I'll post pictures and more about my experience in the relevant sections when it arrives.
  9. Hopefully this isn't too much of a noob question (especially as this isn't an expensive purchase), I've noticed quite a few other QC pictures posted recently, and I'd like your opinion on something. Firstly, I'll freely admit that I've still a lot to learn and this could be a really inaccurate replica, or even a fantasy watch from other likenesses I've found so far - but that's not really my point, I like how it looks. I'm dipping my toe in the water with this purchase more for grading the experience and dealer than the actual watch, before venturing into something more serious further up the chain. My question is: there's an oddity in this picture right at edge of the bezel just past the 1 o'clock point, above the 500 mark on the golden edge. Could this be a reflection, or glue or some other sort of defect or image artefact? I welcome your thoughts, but please do note that this is an absolute bargain purchase... To be honest I'm very happy I've even been given QC on this.
  10. Yes, maybe I'll have to put some limits on things - while waiting for my first ones to arrive I've already spotted a member sale I like the look of! Oh dear
  11. Very nice. Love the bracelet - looks like a comfortable wear...
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome. Seems like a nice community you have here. Thanks guys
  13. Hi, new to the forum and have to say from only the short time reading: boy is there a lot to learn. I originally thought buying a reasonable rep would be as simple as a quick bit of googling and choosing one of the first sites listed. Thanks to stumbling on this place, that was the first noob mistake dealt with without disappointment and wasting any money. Next, reading up on the scams and scam-sites; then about the different quality movements and what you can expect to pay for something alright. After that, finding there are people that collect these things and trade them - often after making them even better, sometimes more or less replacing all the replica parts with genuine (think I'm right in calling this a franken). Drooling over some of the member trades listed. Then finding the 'recommended' dealer section... I've dipped my toe in the water with a couple of low-end trial pieces from Silix in the hope I find a rep style and model I want to invest more effort (and $) in. Something really nice that I'll be pleased with hopefully. Maybe I'll find that someone else has a similar taste and has improved theirs but wants to move it on... Anyhow, hello. And thanks for the help so far. This is hopefully the start of something fun.
