I've been seriously thinking of getting the same watch (the RG version, possibly the power reserve version) but my biggest concern is the quality of the plating.

Is it good? I've heard it is not really rose gold, but copper actually.

I had a similar situation with a rep GMT Master, I took the hands and dial off to install a better datewheel, and I had set the gmt hand too low and it caught one of hour markers; the bending was nearly identical.

I can attest to the problems with the grand carrera, the one I received had terrible CGs; it was so bad that I could not even screw down the crown.

As for the 1887, from what little comparisons I've made to pics of a gen; is that the tachymeter font/printing greatly missed the mark.

Avoid it. It appears that they are using pics of gens for all of their reps.

Going along with the [censored]le of the thread I would like to know what the process is for "gold wrapping" reps.

You should just hold on to it, use it gently if you must. Then flip it later; when the right opportunity arises.

I did not realize 1680s had serif date fonts.

I was looking at the new TC Subs and I noticed that the click spring is positioned at the 5 o'clock position.

On my BK TW Sub the click spring was in the 2 o'clock position and was so hard to turn that I removed it completely and bent the friction washer as with 1680s, 5513s, and the like.

What is the actual position is on the genuine article.

I have not purchased an Ofrei pearl before, but I have purchased a WM pearl and the biggest issue seems to be that the pearls are not pure white ; ie off white or ivory and sometimes they look as if they are not filled completely, also they are not SL or Luminova.

But it is not unheard of for modders to purchase 4-5 at a time to get a very good one.

Steinhart is a American/Swiss brand; many people on the other forums will sing their praises. But in the end they are an "homage" watch company. Look-a-likes with swiss movements are the bulk of their collections. More recently they have started making more original pieces and started passing the homages to their sister company Debaufre.

Alas there really aren't any Swiss or even German "cheap" brands dating to the WWII era anymore.

From what I've read the quartz revolution of the 1970s and 1980s really killed off dozens if not hundreds of small family owned brands and put thousands of watchmakers out of work.

Sad really, a watchsmith after years of training ends up change batteries and sizing bracelets to stay in business.

But for their prices you can get a rep IWC Big Pilot rep with the same movement (or an asian clone) and have money left over to buy a decent strap.

Within the last month the rep factories have fixed the recessed datewheel, which was the biggest issue with the rep.

Another option, are four-sided nail files. The first two surfaces are the buffing surfaces, the second two are for the fine polishing, and the results're pretty good

I saw a Veyron on the street last week, it is much smaller in person. About the size of a BMW 3 series.

The only thing that could be and issue is that these are for the 6538 vintage sub, and the minute hand is thinner, but on the other hand they are gilt and superlumed.

I've bought from helenarou half a dozen times without a problem. If you are skeptical.

For me the biggest tell was the lume is slightly yellow on the rep, instead of the pure crystalline white on the genuine.
