  1. You're unbelievably lucky that case screw didn't wind up in your hair-spring.

Don't I know it! I was amazed it hadn't, given it may have been loose for a couple of hours by the time I had noticed it. Or days even, if the two events were unrelated (movement holder screw and rotor screw coming loose.)

  2. Okay guys, was out in the garden today, and when I came in my watch was rattling. Quite surprised it has not happened earlier to be honest, but am lucky there I guess. A7750 movement, and when i pulled it open, turns out the rotor has undone itself. I have the rotor, the screw for the rotor, and a third piece that I have no idea where it goes. Now, I would assume it is to do with the rotor also, it seems to be the same size. But before I put it back together, where exactly does it go, so I don't make a mistake?

  3. Plain and simple, I just can't get into macs. It was always apples they had in the computer labs at school, so I was exposed to them, at university they had both types of labs, PC were much more popular - if you needed to find a computer to do an assignment on the maclab was the best because nobody used them, and to be honest, I knew why. Couldn't stand using them compared to PC. Had to program on both types in a couple of programming courses, and again, could not stand using the apple. Even recently, have used a macbook and still just plain out don't like the way it is set up. Give me a PC any day. Some may say closed minded, but all I can say is I keep trying the apples and I keep deciding I can't stand them.

  4. I like the idea of custom shirts, and it is something i will do at some point - but I just don't wear shirts enough at the moment to bother. Even at $100 a shirt, though, pick up half a dozen, and you have your shirt stock for the next few years for $600, if treated well. Or do what I would like to do at some point, head over to one of these countries with cheap labor that custom make clothes and keep your measurements on record, and get the same thing for $25 a piece. Had a boss that used to do that, his annual holiday was to Bangkok with about a grand for the next seasons wardrobe. Half a dozen suits, sik shirts, and change when he got back.

  5. To help out phaedo, we'll put some sheep yards down on Bondi beach, and see if we can get Taronga Park moved over there as well!

'Cos most of the Kiwi population are in Bondi.....and the bloody rest are here on the Gold Coast with me!

    Offshore

You know, 4 years of living 30 minutes north of Bondi and I still haven't been there. Must be all those kiwis there!

  6. Well Col, using the dark side skin, as the new skin just isn't doing it for me. I do appreciate the work that has gone into the upgrade, and that the old skin isn't available in the new format, but the old skin just seemed easier to read, navigate etc. And I'm sure the bugs are still being worked out anyway, so in that sense that part of it isn't a big deal. There are a couple of much improved things I have noticed so far, and i am sure in time will find most of them.

  7. Another for the cultural divide methinks.....

    Button-down collars? :nea:

A horrible American affectation that Brooks adopted after seeing the design being worn by English polo players where they were practical - stopped their collars flapping about in the saddle.

Very much frowned upon this side of the Pond in anything but the most casual of occasions. And only then if you're a port-loving management consultant whose horsey-looking wife has bought you one to match your boat shoes/loafers and chinos for "dress down" Fridays in the office. Wear one with a tie and suit, and it's pretty much career suicide. And rightly so.

Agreed Doc, the only shirt shirts I have in my wardrobe these days are french cuff, and you just don't do button with those. And even rolling the sleeves up is easier on those I find.

  8. Cool looking watch. I did up a similar type with the black lume and a PVD case.

Very interesting to note the differences between your lume shot and the one from flav. I am glad to see that you listed the exposure information as well, it's much too easy to make the lume glow look much brighter than it actually is in person. One second is a good exposure and about as close to the real brightness in person.

    Good luck with the sale.

Hi Zig, yes it is interesting to note the difference in lume shot from my pic and Flav's, but now I look at his pics versus mine again, I get the feeling he sent a stock picture rather than one of my watch for a couple of reasons. The lume being one, and the small bit of paint on the hand is visible in my pictures, including the lume shot, but not in his pictures.

Having had it about a year now, although I don't wear it much, I don't have any plans on selling, I think I would regret it in 10 years time if i were to want to wear it then. Plus, being a special order, it isn't like there are thousands of this particular watch being out there.

  9. Thought I should make a post somewhere about watches, so here goes.

Last year when Flav was doing a lot of pam hommage watches, I got on the bandwagon. I was really liking the black lume models, so went with a black lumed model, with the 'phantom' text on the dial. C1 lumed hands. Overall, it came out alright - not perfect, but aside from one small issue I will have to get fixed sometime, a nice watch.

Pros: Custom made to my specs

    Swiss movement

    Great crown and CG

Decent at keeping time (not sure how accurate, as I don't wear it often, but not out by much - I don't notice much if a watch is 2 minutes out over a week, and most of them don't stay wound a week at a time anyway)

Cons:Came with a typical rep strap

Although the black lume is cool, and is the tritec stuff, it is no better than your typical rep lume. Not much that could be done about that really

Expensive - paid around $600 for it

There is a bit of paint on the minute hand on the lume

    Doesn't get enough wrist time

I suck at photographing watches (not a con of this watch in particular, but all of them)

All in all a nice piece, but I think for the price I should have maybe thought a bit harder before I decided to buy; it doesn't get worn enough for now, because my work dictates I wear something I don't mind getting beat up, and I tend to just keep one watch on all day rather than switch when I get home, so it really only gets thought about when I have something to go to, and can get away with wearing something that won't fit under cuffs.

    On to some pics:

Here is a lume shot, with my DSN 113 on the left for comparison (f5.2, 1 sec exposure, 800 ISO)

Here we are with another lume shot, a couple of minutes later (f5.2, 1 sec exposure, 800 ISO)

  10. Yes, quite a lot of truth there. Not to go off topic on the original post, which was quite good, it shows the difference between what people consider to be 'recession' now and the recessions and depressions in the past - not enough money to buy a loaf of bread, and now only enough money for 3 plasma TV's in the house and 'recession!'

  11. What I find concerning with all these type of threads where issues all of a sudden blow up, is the backlog of complaints that suddenly materialize once things come to a head. Not that I had been following Rockets reputation much, but can't say before this AR run there was any indictation of issues with him. Yet we have 2 members speaking up in this thread on problems with previous watches worked on by him. The same happened with Jacob - from everything I read, he seemed like a great guy, the answering posts at all hours, usually in minutes of a query being posted, seemed generous, and I didn't read a bad thing about him. He disappeared, and all of a sudden I see message after message of how hit and miss his AR was, damage to watches, and numerous issues that seemed to be happening for months. TWP was the same, Phoband made a post warning about him, yet that seemed to be the only issue that materialized at the time - until he disappeared - then every man and his dog said they were waiting on watches that were being modded by him, or waiting for new watches they had ordered, or a job he had messed up... there were posts near the end about the latter, but by then it was too late anyway.

Personally, I think as a community we need to be more vigilant about who works on our watches, and if there are issues, that they become known, because this sort of thing will keep happening otherwise. I know I for one would probably only trust Zigmeister with my watches, but being so far away I wouldn't trust the post office enough to send anything.
