  1. After all the SD 16600 theme is still hot because of the BP watch. I decided to compare two SD dials. Maybe it will be helpful for someone who is planning some mods. I will show the SSD V2 dial mounted on movement against TC's dial. All pics iPhone 4S. SSD on left, TC on right. SSD, outer diameter 27mm. TC, outer diameter 28mm. Nightshot. SSD left, TC right. My personal conclusion: The old SSD isn't as bad as I thought first time. If you watch it under a loupe you will recognize that it really has slightly thicker 5 minute markers! Lume is very evenly applied and does not protrude over the rims like gen. Rims have got a good thickness compared to gen. Print quality is excellent. Hands are matching perfect and all lume has got a nice creamy colour. The lume has got a semi gloss structure. It would be perfect to match an older and used 16600 build. Only the night activity is really bad! TC's dial is outstanding, too. Lume is very strong at night and bright white and matte at daytime. But the rims are a bit to thin compared to gen. Lume protrudes over the rims considering overall height. It is not applied as perfect as Noob's lume material but still near perfection. 5 minute markers are thick enough. Print quality is very very good. Even a Rolex engraving can be found on the backside. Now you can decide which one you'll give your choice for yourself. Cheers Andi
  2. Many thanks for your input. Cheers Andi
  3. Hi at all, I've got a question. How many turns does a gen Rolex 703 crown make until it's fully closed from winding position? I'm talking about Submariner and Seadweller watches. Cheers Andi
  4. Yes, I think this would be a help for my project. Maybe next week I'm able to take some time for working on the lathe with my SSD V2. Cheers Andi
  5. My problem is time, too. I'm planning to mod my SSD on a lathe. My Dad has got a small lathe for mechanics. So I will turn out the rehaut and will machine a new one like you did. I think over a solution which can take a gen gasket and crystal or rep parts, too. Gen spec gasket should be availible by Clark's. But the crystal...hard to find and expensive. Had a look on Startime's replacement crystal for SD. But it seems to look like all generic crystals which incorrect angles. Cheers Andi
  6. BTW: Here you can download an article about the SD and mainly DSSD construction from my Dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/cjd1hy2711e8iwe/DSSD%20Construction.pdf Cheers Andi
  7. Considering the DSSD there is not a seal between crystal and metal underneath. The crystal sits directly onto the ringlock and builds a 3 piece stack with the bottom. This stack is pressed together by water pressure whilst diving. The seal is laying around the outer crystal diameter. At our SD I think the outer bulge of the seal is not absolutely necessary. But maybe it makes the construction stronger against inner pressure caused by He and prevents popping out of the crystal as an additional safety to the He valve. Due to the thickness of the sapphire there shouldn't be a problem sitting onto metal. Cheers Andi
  8. Adrian, the gen gasket has got two bulges. The first one on the inner diameter sets into the groove of the crystal. It fits the gasket to the crystal. The second bulge on the outer diameter of the gasket you can see sets under an edge in the case. It's very small and special shaped to held the gasket in place in the case. So the only possibility to assemble the whole thing is to fit crystal, gasket and rehaut. Then press in these 3 pieces as a preassembly into the case. Cheers Andi
  9. Here is the drawing with my measurements. Some known measurements are taken from the net. The rest is calculated by me. No guarantee they are exact like Rolex the watch manufactured. But they could give a hint for machining the case. Cheers Andi
  10. Wait until tomorrow. I will post the drawing with measurements. Maybe you can compare with your project. Cheers Andi
  11. Thanks Daniel. I thought SSD V2 has got removable rehaut. I took the drawing above and printed it on A4. I calculated all important measurements and compared it with the SSD V2 case. I was really surprised! All measurements are nearly 1:1 corresponding to the drawing! The wokky rehaut is also absolut correct according to the drawing! I'm now really sure that the gen's appearance is only caused by the special shape of the crystal. I will scan my drawing with the measurements and post it here for comparison purpose. Cheers Andi
  12. Today my SSD V2 arrived from a member. I took it apart immediately and made some interesting observations. Z-serial number. Inside is a gen eta 2836. The rehaut is really wokky and not a seperate piece. It's a one piece construction with the midcase. The crystal is 2,8mm tall, OD is 29,4mm. Bevel angle is not so bad I think. Bezel is held in place with a spring wire. What I don't understand is the height of the midcase, 5,3mm. Same height as my Sub LV rep. Is this really a SSD V2? I think midcase should be taller than a Sub case? BTW some hard work to machine the case for a gen crystal construction. Don't know if it is worth... I took some pictures: Cheers Andi
  13. O. K. Some pics of the side profile where we can watch the profile of the crystal. Have a look on the angle of the bevel and the top contour of it. Cheers Andi
  14. Have a look on this beauty I mentioned above: Cheers Andi
  15. I would buy such a crystal, too. But in my opinion Rolex seemed to use different crystals over the years. I watched several pictures of gen 16660 and 16600s. The height seems to differ from model to model. Also the distortion and look of the rehaut. I found a gen 666 in superb condition which had a rehaut looking like a DSSD caused by distortion of the crystal. Cheers Andi
  16. @Deokhoon Jun: How does the gen SD crystal compare to WSO's? Are there significant differences? BTW: I've got a BP SD on the way, too. But I bought the SSD V2 from a nice member here. I want to mod it a bit. Especially CGs and if possible crystal. I like the lugs on the SSD. BP has got flaws here considering the shape in the lower end area of the lugs. They are too slanted. Cheers Andi
  17. I know about the 16600 construction. I'm planning to mod a SSD V2 rep and installing a gen spec crystal. I know this will be hard work but I've got a lathe and many time, too. The problem of the rep crystal is the incorrect angle of the top bevel. Also the rounded top edge is missing. Cheers Andi
  18. I'm searching for a gen spec crystal for Rolex Seadweller 16600. Clark's does not look like a gen because the angle of the bevel seems to be totally wrong. What's about the 25-286 crystal from WSO? The picture on the bay does not show many details. Has anyone ever tried this crystal type? Cheers Andi
  19. Hi guys, since TC hasn't got any LV dials left I'm asking myself where to source one. Has anyone an idea where to get a comparable item? It should be superlumed and replace a rafflestimes dial in my own LV build. Cheers Andi
  20. Hello guys, hope someone is able to help me. I'looking for a GMT Master ceramic but there are so many versions at puretime's website. Which one is the best ootb? He also offers a version with chs, seems to be an A2836 with mods. Is this movement reliable? I enjoy both variants of this watch, the black one and the BLNR. Would like to order a version which has got as few as possible flaws. I searched this forum already and learned it would be a real good choice to go with BP's GMT. But on PT's site I can't realize who's the maker of those watches... Has someone an advice for me?
  21. If the offset is not too much you could slightly bent the dial feet counterclockwise. But really slightly! So you are able to turn the dial some degrees into the right direction. Cheers Andi
  22. Buy this assortment from cousinsUK mentioned above. It is not far expensive and you will find the fitting rivets and pins inside. I used this for a repair on a broken TC clasp, works just fine. It should be the 1mm size.
  23. The construction and diameters of the casebacks are not always the same. This considers to the manufacturer. I had 3 DSSDs which where all different. The classic SD might be a good choice. If you do not want a real 1:1 rep you could try the DSSD v1. It's availible branded and sterile. I builded this one from the v1: Cheers Andi
  24. A normal sub caseback does not fit because the diameter of the thread is much smaller and it's only one piece construction. You can rework the two pieces of the DSSD caseback on a lathe and loose about 1mm in thickness. But you are loosing the engraved words, too. I did this with a cheap sterile DSSD caseback. But it's only 1mm, you do not really feel it on your wrist. Only with a Nato it may be an advantage. Here are pictures, the caseback was sanblasted again after reworking.
