  1. hmm... maybe. I actually haven't thought of that. :) If his after the vintage collection, I don't think there are any good reps. Trusty has some on his site and even some other dealers, but they are not accurate. Am I wrong, japanic?

  2. You'll need to be more specific on the model and even year, but in any case I believe there are no correct reps for vintage timepieces. The factories are focused on more current high-end models, due to request and gen watches/parts availability. Vintage watches are sold for low(er) prices and I believe you'll be able to buy a very nice gen from a dealer even on ebay for a very reasonable price.

  3. My first suggestion would be to get more familiar with the forum. There is tons of information on this watch here. And this comes from a new member, just like yourself. Trust me, you'll have zero, and I mean zero, questions.

Second - read the review of the watch.

Third - head over to the trusted dealers section on this site.

In any case Joshua, Trusty Time, Pure Time and many others, all have this watch in their inventory.

  4. A replica can be waterproof. All it takes is a good design and good QC.

Do you have dry white rice? if you cant get silica gel paks then you can always use a sealed container with dry uncooked rice to suck out the water from the watch.

Great advice. I'll have to remember it.

  5. when i want a rep, first i check the gen price if is below 15k i go for it, but i have some rules that i follow and could be helpful

Rule 1: Wear a watch that is around 1/3 the price of the car that you own

Rule 2: About 50% of your collection must be gen watches

I think that following some personal rules will help you see all the reps that you wear as gen,

    what do you thinks guys?

    Sent from my SGS2

Excellent rules. I'm a big fan of Patek, especially the Nautilus, but given my current income level and social status, it would be unthinkable for me to own one. Sure I can buy a great rep of this beautiful, masculine watch, but it would look so out of place on my wrist, that I wouldn't go even near it in the AD shop.

  6. Well that sure is no fun, and probably very frustrating.. ;)

I wish you good luck with your new watch purchase...

    Cheers,

    MM

I'm lucky I only managed to add a watch to the shopping cart, but not to purchase it. Imagine that: you place an order and as soon as you do that the site goes down. :clown: That would make me feel extremely uncomfortable. Would probably make me second-guess the whole idea of purchasing a rep.

@thogaa - I'm an idiot. He's using gmail, obviously :frusty:

  7. Before coming to these forums, Rolex would be my obvious choice. Now, I guess it depends on a wearer and the context.

A local grocery store owner near our home wears a Breitling, which I'm sure is a rep. On a second thought I don't even care if it's a gen - it looks fake on him. If you are going hiking, don't wear you Portuguese, if you are serving tables, don't wear your Patek. Even if it's a gen you got as a present from your grandfather - it's a fake.

Reading through these forums I've come to appreciate a well executed rep as much as a gen. I believe that to replicate a fine watch to the smallest details takes as much energy and ingenuity. I respect a brand, but today I respect the watchsmith more. I don't think I care if he's a Swiss guy working for Panerai or a member of this forum modding and remodding his Speedmaster.

In short: "wear your watch well" - is not a cliché.

  8. Thanks for the information. Exactly what a rep-noob like myself needs. I'm looking at a watch with Asian 2892 automatic movement, so my guess is that it falls under the third category. Being a detail and accuracy aficionado, the replication accuracy and precision is an important aspect of the watch for me, so I'm prepared to pay for them. I'd like to have a good out of the box rep, with a decent movement, but a great dial, AR, etc as a start and maybe even upgrade it later.

I've seen a couple of new models on "trusted" dealers' sites and since this watch was on my (short) wishlist for a while now, I wonder if anyone has it. How accurate it is, externally, and how reliable the movement is?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

  10. Hi guys,

I was actually on a market to buy a gen and somehow have found your fine community and since then I've been religiously reading this forum and felt it's time to post a couple of questions.

I've always felt that if I would buy a fine watch it will be the only timepiece I'll ever own, but now I believe I actually can follow my passion for horology and start a small collection of gens and reps.

So, thank you for all the information and I hope I will be able to help others as well.

    Cheers.
