  1. Hi fellas,

Ive been designing my Own AP Style case in hope to actually machine it. Ive done many many renderings and this is the final design :) I hope you all like it. Ive encorporated many different Audemars Piguet Styles such as the AP Diver Case and the MS Crown, 15400 Bezel.

No visible gaskets but the crystal will be clamped down when the bezel is tightened and a gasket will seal the crystal underneath where it isn't visible.

The surface finish on the watch is just the same as SS AP's Linear Brush with  polished Chambers. On the case back I'm tempted to put a turned circular finish on it all and then polished engravings.

Ill let you do the judging :D

  2. When you say you can't machine "bevels" on a machine that isn't the case,

If you have the know how it is very possible. Imagine a tool with a radius on the end. We call then ball nose tools and they can create a very curvy surface. With a 8mm ball nose you can create the lugs and case sides as well as boring out the rough ID of the case.

I would do something like this however I would need all of the dimensions in order to design and program the machine. I do have 3D ready CAM software so it is all possible.

  3. Hi fellas !!

It's been quite a while since I last posted here but behind the scenes I've been developing the setup and machine :)

I decided that, hell this machine isn't up to what I need it for !! Time to ramp up :D

May I pronounce to you, the AMA25LV Custom CNC Machine !!

I've now got around £3,500 into this machine now and till recently I have finished converting it to CNC. I'll share some pics of the conversion just to show what I had to go through to make it CNC :)

All calibrated to within 0.01mm (0.0005mm at best) which is pretty damn good !!

Now the machine is completed I shall start modding the AP Case :)

Stay tuned, MUCH MORE to come :)

    Cheers,

  4. Thanks fellas, I've had experience working for members on other boards (watchmaking) some thing have gone wrong and have been resolved by me covering the costs but I've also had many things go right and people are delighted with my work. When you have been machining for as long as I have you get something called a "Micron Eye" :D ( can judge when something is perfect ) I've done parts on prototype Aston martian and Bentley cars all seems to work and hold up ok.

All in all this project has cost me just over £1000.

The machine is being delivered on this Friday. The machine tools like the rotary table and mill collet chuck will arrive within that time also :D I'll post some pictures of where the machine is going to go and the set up etc..

I'm really excited about this project now. It's all coming together smoothly with lots of interest :)

    Cheers,

  5. Yes the camera to zero the XY on the spindle is a great idea. It is usually used on the cheaper versions of the more industrial CNC Lathes.

I plan on setting a vice permanently to the machine table and set a reference datum point from the left hand corner of the fixed Jaw. Then use a stock stop on the left hand side so I can put in stock material in the same place every time I cycle the program. The scary thing when you start the machine and it rapids to 1 mm above the Z0 it looks like it's going to self destruct !!

Here is a pic of where I learnt CNC Programing:

And this is the boat I plan on building with the Mill. Not the wooden bits that is in a kit pre CNC cut:
