  1. I wonder if the bottom of these indexes are not polished, making them reflect the lume of the main hands, which glowe the most (much more than the indexes themselves). Theses are very close to the crystal, making the dial perfectly readable : no AR required, all's clear, crisp and no reflection.
  2. Update on 27th July Well it seems I'm entering Step 2 in my collection : it's been more than 2 monthes that I did not increase my watches amount : just swapping, reorganizing, and I like the results more and more. - Welcoming my new Tissot PRS-516, for which I had to sell 2 watches : my Seiko Orange Monster ; orange was surely "too much" for me. And also the JLC Master Compressor : well, I loved it's "Seventies" look with its racing strap. But I love the PRS' one even more ! - Updated the global views accordingly My Vacheron Overseas still out for maintenance... Hopefully it should be back home early August ! And still no 7750... Any rational explanation ? PS : don't flame me on the Casio : it's the one I wear for swimming or gardenning or whatever might harm my watches...
  3. Hi, everything (or close to) has been said about this Tissot PRS-516, a mid-range gen in [url=http://www.rwg.cc/members/se_redirect.php?url=http://www.rwg.cc/members/se_redirect.php?url=http://www.rwg.cc/members/se_redirect.php?url=http://www.rwg.cc/members/se_redirect.php?url=http://www.rwg.cc/members/se_redirect.php?url=http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=22762.html]St
  4. No rats in Ratatouille... except in the latest Pixar's creation ... But that's just for fun
  5. Let me guess... Mice ? Or maybe spiders ? I bet on mice.
  6. Wow, you noticed that ? For some VC are Granfather's watches... For me, they're just the incarnation of classy timekeepers. I have no "a priori" on brands and am willing to wear any type, as long as the circumstances and my wristsize allow it. The one I'm more reluctant are Rolex. But things change, and I may do the step once. So, that does not happen so often, but I'm going to do something for you sp
  7. The date's not aligned... I mean on the rep Nothing but normal, I agree. The rubber strap on the black dial fits with what I would like. I agree, blue dial and black rubber is harder to swallow.
  8. I agree... C'mon, get rid of that ugly strap when you get it ! The Aquatimer is the first Tag that really grows on me since the SLR... Curiously, I'm not a link fan.
  9. ...if you don't like it, I'll buy it from you and put it on that Quartz Aquatimer we spoke about last time...
  10. I love it. And prefer a rubber or leather band on it, it gives it a unique look. But never bought from King, and I'm not sure I would start with an additionnal dealer.
  11. Mmm.. I still can't get used to the idea that one can accept anything because this stuff is illegal, but you're probably right Tourby, I'm a bit naive. For the fact that most dealers don't know anything about watches, well, at that time better to change the dealer urgently ! Some turn to experts in explaining you why this or that on your watch is not as advertized or expected ("closer to the gen" or that kind of excuse I read already), so the very same people should behave as experts for such obvious lack on a 400 dollars rep. Your dealer, as others, lied about AR coating, that's a fact. You don't need to be an expert to see that the time can't be read on the dial. Watchsmith or not, if they are now warned by a dissatisfied customer, they should change the description. One can make a mistake by ignorance, but not willingly. You're right, that indeed reminds most of us of the Swiss ETA thread in B&R reps... and so many others At the end, there are enough dealers around, so even if that's all illegal, customer has the choice NOT to buy from him, or to buy from the "less worse". See, I am more upset than you Whatever the business is, if I get scammed or let's say "I'm being told lies" (I don't know where's the limit between both, probably in the amount paid), I'll take care that it only happens once. And warn others so that they draw lessons of my bad experience, exactly as you did : DO NOT BUY THE ST EX. You'll find it for 220 dollars in 3 monthes. I recently asked about a watch diameter to Silix, and it occured that the advertized diameter was a mistake. He changed the description quickly. I expect the same for missing AR from those 4 or 5 dealers (if you include River that sells it much cheaper) who have the St Ex. Why can we get damn good reps for 150-200 dollars and not for 400 ? Is it only me ?
  12. Tourby, whatever the built quality is, don't you think it's the dealer's reponsibility to check his description ? AR and no AR seems to be a huge difference on that particular dial, and the dealer can't hide behind the manufacturer for that lack. Even if he's a dropshipper, he must have seen it at least once. Especially for the price you paid. I hope you're able to have it AR coated or exchanged, sincerely. [Edit] As in real life, when there's a problem with a product, I engage the dealer's reponsibility, not the manufacturers one. Otherwise the dealer is useless. Only my humble opinion. Hell, 400 bucks !
  13. Tourby, you're unfortunately confirming 2 other boards members opinion I would definitely ask for a discount to the dealer who advertizes an AR coating that does not exist... That's an unfortunate illustration that the prices are artificially hold at a high level for all the new reps. This 7750 based rep should not exceed 250 dollars, as for all others. Vote with your wallet, maybe the prices will once come to a reasonable level again. I do not believe in the Superrep chimera. There are better reps than others, that's all, and it's not "production costs related".
  14. Well, only an ex-brit in Paris would notice that. So I'll correct : Vacheron Constantin won't pronounce as Valentine, in English. That's the "no excuse" I was referring to : http://www.rwg.cc/members/VC-Overseas-on-order-t38388.html Might be helpful for other VC fans (And, no, Omega will never pronounce Omeega )
  15. TJ, you have no more excuse on that Vacheron Constantin, won't pronounce as Valentine So, the very same dress as the "Swiss" version... Why don't our dealers automatically have the alternative ? With the ETA getting scarce and/or expensive, that would definitely let us continue our hobby at affordable prices... I really don't care having an asian movement in watches that don't have that much complications. That's exactly the recipe that was applied to the SFSO, and it works : a great watch for less than 150 bucks shipped ! And if it dies, I'll buy an other one....
  16. TJ, for the sapphire thing I know it's not a 100% reliable method, but one clue : just put a drop of water on the crystal. If the drop sits and keeps its shape, it might be sapphire. If it just spreads, then obviously something else (whatever it is). Far from perfect method, which by the way I learnt (as for the rest) on this very board, but at least it has always confirmed what was advertized in the reps and gens I bought...with few exceptions, but always in the right direction (i.e. advertized as mineral, showing as sapphire). I once read here "non chinese sapphire" from a dealer who never answered my question : is there a "cheap chinese sapphire" and an other type ?? I know there are some kind of "complexes" like Seiko's hardlex, which is mineral glass with a sapphire layer on the top. Makes it unscratchable, but not more robust than "plain saphhire". I too like this mix of brushed/polished surfaces all around the watch and on the bracelet. That makes it sexy and eye catching, more than the case shape, indeed. And I would not think one second on switching the bracelet, which is IMO 60% of the watch's interest, for both aesthetics and comfort. BTW, did you meet any trouble in resizing it ? Mine was terrible (stuck screws)
  17. TJ, that's an objective review and rating every feature/part is an original approach, as far as reps are concerned. From what I see on your pics, we have the same case/dial/bracelet, let's say the same dress. I don't agree on the case lack of shape, but, hey, we can't have all the same tastes. As you mentionned, this watch is versatile as far as its usage is concerned, although I tend to consider it mainly as a dressy watch. So except the ETA movement, we have the same watch, with a price difference of 130 dollars shipped... Or better said, yours is half the price ! That's really worth mentionning : Asian 21 jewels have no reason to be crappy or more defective than our (not always) Swiss ETAs, as long as there are no special complications... Usually the beatrate and power reserve is better on Swiss thingies, but I feel that's all (from my small experience). Some will say that the difference might pop up when you want to have the movement serviced. Well... I currently have my Overseas out "for maintenance" (working well but some parts are very used and deserve being changed, which make me assert it was not a brand new movement). Only the parts cost me 40 EUR, and even if it's a watchsmith buddy doing the job, I'll pay him something. So at the end I expect to pay something like 70 EUR, i.e. 100 dollars. If I had an Asian version, I would just have thrown the watch away and bought an other one... As simple as that. That's why I do encourage those who love the Overseas design to get the Asian one (this specific one, as there are others, worse). Exactly the same way I encouraged people to buy the Asian SFSO. Same case, same all, except the movement... There is one point which might be important : TJ, is this a sapphire or mineral crystal ? Also, it's surely worth mentionning that the rep is very accurate against the gen. The main known flaws on this case are : - no AR (but not really useful nor noticeable) on the white dial - the shape of the date window - the thick cross, although I have the feeling that your cross is thinner than mine. More or less, that's all I remember. I saw the gen in an AD once, had the feeling it looked a bit bigger, but in fact I have no idea about the real dimensions. Anyway, the rep is really close. Damn good bargain ! BTW, if you feel you won't wear the thing, I'm sure it would go in a minute in the sales section And if I had not just spent one arm for my new Tissot, I would have ran to your dealer to get a backup Overseas. Might happen soon however. Bravo for this review ! That's how I like our boards ! Pics, facts, sharing ideas on watches !
  18. Hi, I am actually looking for a reduced Navitimer, as I have a small wrist. But it does not seem to exist : most dealers who indicated a 40mm instead of 43 (or 46 for the GMT) were mistaken. As the dial is taking all the surface of the watch, the Navitimer looks even bigger I guess. The wristshot is extremely useful for people like me : Italiano, would you mind confirming your wrist size, in cm or inches, don't mind. Thanks a lot !
  19. Unbeatable price ! Excellent watch and rep. However, I'd be curious on the movement. Was it 2824 or 2834 advertized ? Don't hurry to open the caseback, as the screws might be marked forever... Just would appreciate to know what was advertized, knowing that an ETA movement currently costs 70-90 dollars...when you're able to source it. Waiting for your pics and before all "feelings", I'd like to learn how wrong/right I was by paying mine 250
  20. An other BUMP to tell you Stephane that you made me desire this watch... That growed on me for a month now. And your latest holiday shots with this beautiful white dial and heavy bacelet made me sell 2 watches to get rid of this obsession and buy the thing ! Can't wait it to land on my wrist !
  21. Hi, tempting with the solid caseback, that make the stickers flaw less obvious. By the way, did they fix the price issue too..?
  22. BTW, is it all brushed or are there polished sides ? (can't see it from the pics, sorry).
  23. Wow ! Nice shots ! As a MB fan, I must say that one is very sexy Never saw it before, I'm almost sure it's a fantasy model. Looks like these Russian style thingies which are 50+ mm diameter. Or like U-boat watches. Frankly, I like it, and in this case Quartz is nothing shocking. What's the diameter ? Thx.
