  1. Hi, good idea, that is balancing the super-high-priced reps. I like the concept. I just wish we could get other brands as well. Anyway, I hope to see more in this Newbie section, even if the wording sounds inadequate. There's no direct relation between "noobishness" and price. Good point, Andrew !
  2. - updated on 14th july with an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Well, it seems calming down is an impossible mission. Also updated the second overview, although the Vacheron Constantin Overseas is missing in action : currently being out for "maintenance"...
  3. OUILLE ! (means OUCH...) That also explains why I would be reluctant to buy the Swiss Ouilloche thingie, although noone might spot it.
  4. Here's a pic I found on some boards, taken during the Basel2007 fair. Does that mean that this movement is a really brand new one? 26 jewels, against 25...? Also, can we understand from such catalogues that it's fully interchangeable with the ETA 2824-2 ? At least I figure out better what's happening in our reps. The price is definitely a key issue. The availability too ? A "Swiss" competitor for the 7750 would be some good thing, again, depending on the price and on what it brings against the Asian clone. "Our" Asian 7750 is already some excellent competitor, it's just missing a bit of QC/servicing and is surely more than enough in our reps if sold/installed in the right conditions (which I understood not to be the case). I now understand the ETA we see on their website have in fact no advantage on the "genuine" ETA, as they are genuine. No interest for our reps, all the more as it's likely to be more expensive, because finished/reworked.
  5. Mmm... I read things recently which the older member surely all remember (I'm not one of those), and I'm not sure if having an RWG watch made is an easy step. I would love to own a Tourbillon, for sure. Personnally I prefer a neutral thing rather than some strange names you find on ebay for example, and which (according to your native language) sound odd : Robert, Samson, Carlos etc...
  6. I've just opened an other Sellita thread here, not to spoil too much Azerbyjam's one about the SFSO.
  7. Hi all, we have all been reading about these Swiss movements, especially since we find them in some of our reps. Those we find look definitely like ETA movements. And the background is often "I ordered this or that rep with an ETA and got a Sellita instead". There are many unclear points for me. So, first the search results : http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?act=Se...ighlite=sellita What I learn from this, is that - Sellita is a Swiss company - their movements are good - they are considered as ETA clones in the discussions, which has not been really evidenced yet. Here's their website (sorry in French, but the movement catalogue can be understood easily) : It seems they are (used to be) an ETA large customer, therefore not supplying or assembling home made movements to the ETA group. As for all, there is not a simple answer, as there are NOT one but several Sellita movements. But here are my questions / current doubts : - what is the reason why we find Sellita movements instead of ETA in the reps right now ? - are these (some of these) swapable against ETA ? - are there common parts ? - are they clones or genuine ETA (manufactured by ETA) ? - are they cheaper ? That's a key issue, as this might be the reason why we meet them more and more - are they as easy to source and/or repair as ETA ? These are the main things I'm wondering about, but I might have forgotten some. I would love this thread to be some kind of reference about this brand, as one thing is sure : Sellita movements in reps exist and we should find why. Except some afficionado, I think noone ever heard of them before. We all know the ETA, Asian 21J and Sea-Gull things. But what about this "outsider" ? Thx for any contribution, technical (needed) or from the marketing point of view.
  8. Just back from the website. http://www.sellita.ch/catalogue/mvts_auto.html Is this Sellita 2824 really not swapable ? The Sellita story will obviously be a hot topic in the immediate future. The other thing which is not clear for me is that I understood Sellita is a customer from ETA... Their biggest actually (or used to be). So, are they the manufacturers of these Sellita movements, or are they "just" tuning/modifying/using them ? And if so, the Sellita movements should not be cheaper than the ETA ones.
  9. Hi, how would you recognize the "latest" generation ? I can recognize these chnise tourbis (well, the sales price is enough to recognize them ! ), but am not able to say if it's generation 1, 2, 3 ?
  10. Pug, if I should get it neutral, I would go for one on ebay, you can have them for around 300-400 dollars, with a warranty. I'd also be interested in the reliability of the movement anf if The Zigmeister worked on it already. Ouilloche sounds funny in French...
  11. Hi, of course it's not a drama to get a Selita movement. I read in a thread a justified remark saying that the Selita is probably more Swiss than our ETAs... But the point is that we don't know how it is pricewise against an ETA. Not mentionning the "little white lie". How common are Selita movements currently and how easily can parts be changed, whenever needed ? Is the movement swapable against an ETA ? I may remember that the answer is NO. So...good movement, but same problems of after-sales than our Asian clones, at least today. I have strongly "praised" the Asian version (that costs 139 dollars shipped from Ruby), encouraging anyone to go for it. And did not find the price difference charged for an ETA and AR coating economically. Discovering this Selita movement in the rep is one more argument for my story. That SFSO of course looks great, and even greater with its AR. But we have one more example it's not worth 300+ dollars, not even talking about the dishonesty of the dealer who provided the thing. I would ask the dealer for a strong discount. I don't hesitate to say when I'm happy with a deal, on the other hand, we should inform and protect the community against the dealers who don't play the game. He did not know ? Well, then he should replace the watch. Name him here, after you solved your problem of course... Reading your unpleasant story, I stick more than ever to the 250- dollars reps...
  12. Hi Corgi, I love Tourbillon watches too, and that real (chinese) Tourbi is very sexy. It's the cheapest I saw around, as most sell over 700 (I would love a Vacheron at 900 !) But I'm wondering : how reliable are these movements, and especially who will repair/service the thing ? It's very unusual and it's not the kind of watch you throw away once it stopped : you try to have it maintained. For the specific model you mention, I would not buy it as the marking Swiss Guilloche is wrong : the first letter is anything but a G. I know, that's nothing... But for the price it should be perfect, I mean qualitywise.
  13. And good news ! Someone heard me (I can't believe what I'm typing ) The non GMT version is about to be released, and if it's based on the model I own (which is obvious), it's just going to be PERFECT ! The 2 flaws (white markers and wrong caseback) won't exist there !!! I may sell my GMT to buy this one, for sure !
  14. That's correct. Except the end is not tin or teen, but...well, I don't think the sound exists in English... The link is excellent indeed, I would just give a tiny detail : the " r " should not be rolled in French (well, actually in "Swiss French" )
  15. Hi, I'm thinking of getting a Navitimer and dress it with a black SFSO leather strap, which is really great. For this, the lugs size should be 22... Anyone confirms ? Thx
  16. Hi SSurfer ! I knew you were italiano, didn't think you lived in Vatican City
  17. I agree on the bracelet : it's the best I've seen to date... (design and quality) a bit difficult to resize, but well, once done you'll be proud to wear it.
  18. Hi TJ, which colour ? The VC is one of my favorite reps, together with the Breitling SFSO
  19. Hi Robi, yes SS, at least something polished and silver colour, not the golden ones. comes from PC... First time I bought a rep from him, as astonishing as it may sound...
  20. On my wrist since wednesday...
  21. It is NOT cheap... it is inexpensive... (I understand myself) Here's my ch... oops, inexpensive Royal OAK Thinking about building a review.
  22. 1000 posts !! That's worth a 1000 Miglia !! And you're right, that's the best place around...
  23. Great variety of styles, that's the way it should be The Constellation flaw may be corrected : isn't that a sticker ?
