  1. The short answer, yes. Depends on the watch though. These MBW watches I was very excited for. On the other hand I bought the latest IWC 5001/5007 right when it came out. But I was away from the fora for a few months so I didn't have any of the anticipation that most of the other members had, waiting for its arrival. I did however get excited for the gen strap to arrive because the one that came with the rep was terrible so the watch couldn't be worn.

This is what I wore on my wedding day, albeit with a black strap to match the tux... I always and immediately favor dress watches over sport for such an occasion. If a genuine Zenith is out of question there are some fantastic rep's out there of IWC, Patek, JLC, etc that will do quite nicely. Also, you could spend similar money to a rep and get a genuine dress Tissot or Hamilton that won't stick out like a sore thumb.

Just my two cents & congratulations :)

I agree with 508 about wearing a dress watch. I would probably be wearing my great grandfathers Omega De Ville, but if I were to choose a rep it would be a Patek for sure.

    Wow fantastic response.

Thank you for your help :-) it may just be better to purchase a new watch in that case.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Why don't we start with, what's the problem with your sub? You can easily buy replacement movements to fit what you already have or even have it repaired for less then the cost of a brand new watch.

Hi, by far the best 5513 insert I have (with a "double-domed" pearl or whatever it´s a pearl covered with acrylic), is this one (not the cheapest) from WSO: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEZEL-INSERT-FOR-VINTAGE-ROLEX-SUBMARINER-5513-1680-PLASTIC-ACRYLIC-PEARL-12-/310977055461?hash=item4867ad4ae5  It just looks great and different from all others, it has kind of an inner glow and 3D look:

Great looking sub! I have bought the WSO pearl in the past but it's a little too tall and narrow IMO. I believe the gen is a little flatter and wider and was under the impression that Ofrei carried something that is basically identical.

  5. I needed to get two vintage style acrylic pearls. I placed an order with Ofrei for two 5513 inserts since they were less then $10 more then just the pearl itself. They arrived today but with the more modern style generic pearl with the metal surround like this:

The part number is specifically different then the other black insert they have made for the 16800. But now as I look on the site I am thinking that has to do with the inner diameter of the insert. One for a watch with plexi, one for sapphire. Now my question is which is the right pearl to order. I don't want to make another mistake so is this the right part for the acrylic pearl?

Yup. You have to cut the feet off and use dial dots to the movement or movement ring. The good thing is you don't have to worry about centering the datewheel and aligning it. It's already done for you. If you don't feel up tot he task, contact mymanmatt or a reputable forum modder that can assemble it for you.

Key thing to remember is make sure the dial is secured to the movement ring/movement AND there is enough clearance for the datewheel to rotate without contact to the back of the dial.

Yeah, Im definitely going to recruit someone. Every build I touch gets destroyed

If the MBW base you are using is a 1680 then it would have a datewheel overlay that would need a Rolex spec date window. It wouldn't be compatible with the Yuki ETA datewindow.

Wow that's great to know! Thanks for that info, I'm such a noob at this stuff. But the dial feet placement will still be set up for the Rolex movement correct?

  8. This build is already having it's challenges and I don't even have all the parts yet. I was hoping to use Yuki's 1680 white dial for ETA movement but it seems both the white and red ETA dials are out of stock. I sent him an email to confirm but no response yet. Phong says he can get one special ordered but I don't really feel like spending $350 on a dial. Any recommendations?

I can recommend the torch-style as you can see and thus control the heat much better, I tried the oven too and destroyed 2 dials (never tried inserts) before I gave up...

Im reading around more now. Even on some of the gen forums it seems that cooking inserts at about 200c/395f for one minute will get you a very mild brown color with out doing any fading. Sounds like I have some experimenting to do tomorrow :D

I can show you the look on a Snowflake insert... How it turns from a bleached purple-ish (horrible) blue to a beautiful tropical more "natural" blue.

Don't have any spare black inserts to show you on unfortunately...

I might give it a go on my brand spanking new MBW 5512-insert, but considering it has a beautiful (rare) kissing 4's + kissing 5's insert that I don't know if there are any spares to purchse, I don't know if I'm willing to risk it on currently (the final color is a complicated mic of bleaching it right and cookind it right). And that is much easier if you can reverse an unfortunate mistake.

I definitely have a spare insert I can test it on. Does anyone know if throwing it in an oven have any effect? That's something else I was considering. A light bleaching and baking but I don't want to get any toxic fumes in my house.
