  1. I am off to modding my UPO some more.

Decided to get a gen crystal. Never got a PM back from Chief, and it seems his AR run is closed of the year.

My question is whether I need to get a case tube, and gen crown?

What is the problem with the current UPO that requires this modification?

Is the case tube the only component that needs to be modded, or is the gen crown necessary, too?

    Thanks for the help.

  2. I have the opportunity to pick up a gen 000 (I think it is K series) from a SoCal AD for 3.8K.

    Should I?

I am asking how much for the 005.

BTW, I need to mention that my friend does marketing for the AD and am getting me the employee price. Will probably come with an extra strap and other goodies.

  3. Hey Lani,

I bought a ETA from Perfect Clones. It has the ETA markings, and Josh has never done me wrong so I assume ETA. However, I heard some horror stories and really didn't know any other ways to verify. That Chief crystal is amazing, and I would say it makes the biggest difference - maybe even more than the dial.

Personally I think the watch looks like a rep even with a gen dial because my gen's AR is what makes the dial really pop.

And I agree with your about the bezel mod. It's too much trouble, and the stock bezel looks fine to me.

  4. This came in today, and here are my initial impressions.

Keep in mind I had a 028 that was worked on by SSSurfer and had a Finepics datewheel, so my expectations are quite high.

    1. Very good crown guard. The pin was flattened by DSN. I think it could be a bit more flat, but overall I am glad that I do not have to do this mod myself.

    2. Exceptional dial. This dial is very well made, and everything is really crisp. Kudos for DSN for taking the effort to consult some of our communities finest.

    3. Date Font, needs improvement. I do not know if I got a bad date, but it is definitely thinner then the one I got from Finepics. Maybe it was SSSurfer's cyclops, but the date is definitely thinner then I would expect. I would need to see a watch modded with Leo's datewheel to see if his work warrants his price, but for now the datewheel is a large improvement over the ETA.

    4. Crown. Not bad, could be better, but I can live with it.

    5. Special thanks to Wolf and Mickey Padge's photos. And thanks to Mickey for answering all my PMs regarding the watch.

    6. Photos are unedited, and have only been cropped.

On to the pictures (I am nuts over the datefont and took most of the pictures for the purpose of comparing the date is various lightings and angles):

  5. Sent my Sinn U1 to the Sinn factory for servicing. I asked USPS for the safest way and they suggested Registered Mail. I was about to send it Express, but they said Registered was the way to go.

Well it left Los Angeles on July 2, 2009, and the factory has not received it.

It shouldn't take this long, right?

If you gone through anything like this please let me know what I should do. Thanks.

  6. there is another member "leo" who is making DW's for these...I have two on the way to me...will send them immediately to my watchsmith for install...will keep you all updated..

on RG there is a lot of discussion for these models brought today by DSN

Thanks, no discussion on datewheels. I Pm'd you. Thanks again for the info.

  7. For the money the PO is in a class of it's own really. The Co-axial is a little workshorse, the AR is great, lume is outrageous, and the finsih of all of the watch is superb. I would personally keep it rather than going for a Sinn. But again it's something personal, and if it doesn't feel right then act quick and take them up on their offer :)

The AR is superb, and the Co-Axial movement (from what I read) is pretty amazing. The lume is also scary bright, and I have owned pieces lumed by Vac.

I guess I am 90% sure I am going to keep it. Like some members mentioned I don't think the watch will be losing its value.
