  1. I got the new DG-2813 movement in really quickly. But before I install it, I have a few more questions. While preparing to buy a replacement gilt dial from rafflestime, only because I broke off the little pins that attach the dial to the movement, I see that they now have Rolex marked rotors which I would love to add. So far they only have them to fit an ETA 2836 or 2824, not my DG-2813. From my understanding the ETA 2836 or 2824 are both better movements than the 2813. Will either of these fit the same case as well as my DG-2813 movement?
  2. I'd probably have someone else to replace it for me since I'm not that good at putting the hands back on. Been there done that. LOL This is my very fist build and getting it to work so it will look good is cool for now. But whenever I decide to make a better build I'll certainly use a better movement. Thanks for the link!
  3. HELP!!! After enjoying my Silix ROL245 007 build for a few years now, the DG2813 movement that came with it stopped working. I need to replace it but I really need some advice: 1. Where may I get a replacement DG 2813 movement for a good price? Rafflestime has been out of stock and there are so many to choose from on eBay. 2. What kind of movement would work better, last longer and actually fit my Silix ROL245 that I already have? Where may I get such a movement?
  4. Of course. But the point I was making was that 007 wore at least two different watches in several movies, the Gruen and the Rolex, regardless of which model the Rolex was in the movies as compared to the books. And I'm sure the term "Knuckle-buster" could equally be used while referring to either Rolex model, the 6538 or the 1016, because of their sturdiness.
  5. Because Bond wears the Gruen again in "From Russia with Love," and in "Goldfinger," one can only surmise that he wears it when he's off-duty, or wants to wear a dressier watch until he needs the Rolex "knuckle-buster."
  6. Nice thread. And to add my two cents, the very first time we see Sean Connery as 007 in "Dr. No," while he plays a round of chemin de fer, or baccarat against Sylvia Trench at the Le Cercle at Les Ambassadeurs, he is wearing a Gruen Precision 510. Later in the same movie he wears the Rolex 6538 on a dark brown crocodile strap as clearly seen in the Geiger counter scene and Crab Cay beach scene. He wears the same 6538 on the dark brown croc strap in "From Russia With Love" as clearly seen in the Russian Embassy scene when he checks the time, and we see his gas mask, before the bomb explodes. Its not until the opening scene of "Goldfinger" that we see the 6538 on the regimental NATO strap.
  7. Thanks! That's exactly the look I was hoping to achieve. As if 007 had put the watch through years of high-speed crashes, explosions and knuckle-busting.
  8. I have finally completed my first 6538 build with a few mods! It doesn't look as good as some of the others I've seen here, but I'm happy with it for now. It certainly needs more work and I will have it done over time. What I have done so far includes: A complete build from Silix with a case that I aged a little. I sanded down the plexiglass crystal, scratched it up a bit, then I softened the scratches with "Softscrub." I may have overdone it with the bezel insert however. I installed a replacement dial from Rafflestime with yellow lume that I aged slightly with a few seconds in my toaster oven and a little brown watercolor paint. I have a vintage-looking lizard strap on the way and eventually I will send it off to have the lugs beveled and maybe have serial numbers engraved.
  9. Good point! The watch really is a keeper since it looks fantastic. That's why I'm concerned about finding the right part.
  10. I just took a better look at the problem with my crown, stem and tube and I just realized that the actual problem is that the threaded tube has become dislodged from the watch case itself! Replacing the crown and stem will not solve what I find to be an almost common problem. Before I purchase one, will a replacement tube from ofrei fit? And will the case number inside the back cover 166 1653, actually find me what I need? If not, where may I get one from? How much should installing a new tube cost at an independent watchmaker? Or should I just send it back to TrustyTime for a complete watch exchange? Can I really save 15% by switching to Geico?
  11. I contacted the Russian guy at Kensington, and his prices were outrageous! He wanted to charge me $250 just to install a new crown as stem! I told him that since all I needed to do was to buy a watch repair kit for a few bucks from Amazon, get it here in 2 days, remove the back, take a very small screwdriver, press the stem release button, pull the old one out, slide the new one in, and then close the back, I'll do it myself just like this guy did: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/140010-first-attempt-at-repairing-upo-45mm-keyless-works/?&fromsearch=1
  12. I assume this is the number to a watch repair shop in my area. How are their prices and quality of work?
  13. The TD has gotten back to me really quickly and has offered to send a replacement crown stem. I guess I will take him up on his offer and find a local watchmaker to install it. Unless there is a better option.
  14. Well, if its not one thing, it is most certainly another. The bracelet fits really well now and it keeps great time. But now the crown will not stay down! I screw it down the exact same way I screw down the crown on my 45mm rep and my gen SMP. But it feels like the threads within the crown or on the tube are striped. I've read about this happening here on the board and I assume its my turn now. I've contacted the TD and have sent him pics as requested. I am not looking forward to paying a bunch of money to spend 4 weeks to send it to China and then wait another 4 weeks to get it or a replacement back. I do have a few suggestions in mind that I may share with the TD: 1. Send me a brand new replacement at the exact same time I return this one and show him emailed proof of shipping. 2. Send me replacement crown and tube and refund me $100 so I may get them installed by someone locally. 3. Send me a complete refund including shipping. Any suggestions?
  15. Shaving down the crystal is probably all I really need help with right now. I'll age the case and bezel myself and maybe bevel the edges later, as well as get rid of those awful white threads in the strap. Can you tell me how to get in touch with PbDad? And where is he located?
  16. I've decided to go a different route than what I mentioned way back in this post. I just ordered a watch from Silix and a dark brown lizard/croc strap as seen in "Dr. No," and "From Russia With Love." The strap will come on the watch instead of the metal bracelet. A member here contacted me regarding an accurate 6538 dial that has already been aged. And he works downtown Washington, DC like I do. All I really need to do now is to age the case, which will be easy, and replace the crystal that is way too high. An suggestions regarding the crystal?
  17. Thanks Preacher. I contacted the trusted dealer and he told me to wind it up and tap it hard in the palm of my hand. It worked and its been keeping great time! Go figure. And I actually have the right tool to adjust the bracelet. My problem is that I just cannot see them. LOL Since we're snowed in today, maybe I'll just take out my contacts which will allow me to see things up close even better.
  18. I just received a 42mm Omega PO from a trusted dealer here. And while I am really satisfied with the way it looks and feels, its needs adjustment. First, I need to have two links taken out. I would do it myself but I just cannot see the screws or pins well enough. So I asked the guy in the mall at "Fast Fix" he said it would be $30! I've heard that it should only be around $7. Secondly, I need to have the movement adjusted since it is running way too fast, a complete hour at the end of the day. The same guy in the mall said it would cost $220 since it needed to be overhauled! I told him it was a brand new watch and that all that needed to be done was to open the back, take a small screwdriver and adjust the regulator screw and maybe the course adjustment arm. He actually suggested that I send it to Omega! LOL When I told him it was a replica and that his prices were way to high, he replied, "I've got to eat too." Can anyone recommend a decent repair person either here in the Washington, DC area, or someone trusty that I may send it to for repair?
  19. Thanks Panerai for that explanation above. That makes a lot of sense. I finally got my watch yesterday and it looks fantastic! But its running entirely too fast. It was about two hours fast this morning when I woke up. Now to find someone to adjust it, and the links without screwing me.
  20. Thanks. But you didnt say anything about it being scanned in the US previously. I will now assume that it may not have actually left Hong Kong even though it says it did.
  21. As I stated in my first post, "According to the tracking I received, it finally left Hong Kong on February 16..."
  22. Ahhhh. That explains a little. But I'm still curious. If my watch already left 10 days ago, and I assume it is here in the US, why haven't I gotten it yet? Its not Chinese New Year here.
  23. I ordered a rep Omega Seamaaster 42mm Ocean Planet from a trusted dealer back on February 3rd. According the tracking info I received, it finally left Hong Kong on February 16, almost two weeks later. Today is the 26th and I still have not received it here in the US, 10 days after it left. I understand how this may be “normal,” but why??? Why does it take 2 weeks to actually ship an item after it has been paid for? Why does it take longer than 10 day for me to get something that has probably arrived in the US? Do some trusted dealers ship faster than others?
