  1. I've read several post on Strap Culture straps and based on the generally positive comments I am on the verge of purchasing this strap 266301-4470.jpg

However, I've read a couple of comments that people felt that the straps were a little thin (Not sure of the specific band). The one I'm looking at is listed at 5mm to 5.5mm and looks pretty thick. My questions are: Would you buy a thicker band? and if so, Does anyone know of a thicker alternative that looks similar to this band?

    Thanks in Advance

  2. I was assuming the newer second generation Navitimers (3-6-9) would be the better choice. However, I'm afraid the slide rule not lining up would really bug me. Are there any shortcommings on the earlier generation that couldn't be remedied with a genuine dial and a 7753 movement? Am I correct in assuming that a genuine dial and 7753 movement woldn't fix the slide rule issue on the newer version?

Update - I purchased one of the 1st generation 3-6-9 Navitimers whith SS bracelets and have a 7753 and a replica strap on the way. Anyone have any ideas regarding a genuine dial. Would prefer a black dial with arabic numerals.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  3. If you find a vintage old no-name chronograph powered with a Valjoux 72 for less than $800, you better buy it. There might still be an ignorant watch seller out there who would foolishly charge such little money, but as of 2 years ago, the price for old no-name beat up bad condition case V72 chronographs is starting at $800.

These ignorant watch sellers do apparantly exist. On my first search for one of these movements about 3 or 4 weeks ago, I stumbled across a web page were one was selling for around $450. I emailed the guy, but someone beat me to it. It was already on hold. Somebody got lucky.

  4. The PAM 029 is a 44mm GMT.

The PAM 60 Flyback is a 40mm chrono but I haven't seen the 72/74 for sale anywhere... The subdial spacing on the 72 would be a problem and it would not be very unaccurate (zenith el premiro mvmnt).

Like written above, there are no handwound base 40mm luminors availabler, at least that would be somewhat accurate.

Again, your best bet for accuracy in a 40mm luminor case would be PAM 48/49 (white) or PAM 50/51 (black)

My statement about the PAM 29 was based on this web page http://www.essentialwatches.com/listing_mu...on_name2_browse. But I assume it is a misprint. I notice that Trustytime's PAM 29 is a 44mm watch.

But doesn't the Pam 48, 49, 50, 51 all have the little second hand?

  6. Based on what you are saying, and on my research, it looks like I need to pick out a 40mm chrono or gmt. Preliminarily, I'm interested in the PAM 29 (black dial gmt), PAM 72 (black dial chrono), and or the PAM 60 (white dial chrono). From what I've seen, it looks like you can get the 29 with a swiss movement, whereas the 72 and 60 appear to only come with the Asian movements. Does this mean that the 29 will last longer?

  7. I recently purchased my first Panerai (112h - 44mm sandwich dial with no second hand) from another member. I really like the look of the watch, but would really prefer a 40mm version. I've looked at a few of the collector's sites, but there doesn't seem to be 40mm version. Does a 40mm version of this watch exist? If not, what is the closest 40mm version (I really don't like the little second hand)?

  8. For what model Breitling would this strap be for?

I'm actually looking for a black croc for my Rolex Sub. Hoping to find a good copy to keep from having to spend $400 on the genuine. I've got a Navitimer Montbrillant (38mm watch) with a black tang croc. The Navitimer is NIB and I'm thinking about selling it. However, I love the look of the band and want one for my Sub.

  9. I want to get a watch winder and based on what I've read here, a Euilux is a safe bet. However, I was wondering if there are any cheaper ones of similar quality? Also wondering what people think of the bergeon watch testers? Will these work as winders?

  10. Bell,

If you can't find a Genuine insert you can't go wrong with CWP insert and hunt around for a gen pearl ( those - the pearls- tend to show up on the Bay now and then you just have to keep your eye's peeled)

    CWP? "Clark Watch Parts"?

  11. I bought a 5513 replacement case from a different seller in Avondale Az. The auction pictures and the case look like they are coming from the same source. I'm knew to this, so can't give you a real good opinion, but you might want to look at my thread "Vintage 5513 Project?" You might also want to PM Justasgood, since he has seen my case in person.

  12. I've been reviewing threads relating to the GMTs. From what I gather, the 24hr hand appears to cause a problems for the reps with the 2836 movements. Is it accurate to say that if you want a good GMT rep you should hold out for one with a 2893 movement? It appears that Josh has one for $428. Does anyone have experience with this rep? Is there any problems with changing out the bezels or inserts. If your spending that much for the watch, it would be nice to know that you could at least change the look (black/red, blue/red, and all black). Are there any other options? Any assistance would be appreciated.

  13. Yeah that is what i thought ... there is only one 5517 rep that i know of that is going around ... the 5517 on that photobucket sight is either a 5513 franken or a true blue 5517 ... hmmm it would be lovely to have a decent rep 5517 out of the box tho ... although that being said ... a convincing one can be made with a bit of patience and the correct resources ( i have one in the works ) :-)

Did you get the link to the photo bucket that I sent earlier today?

  14. There's a MBW 5517!!!!!??? does anyone have any pictures of this ?

I found a picture of the MBW, one of the dealers has it in his photobucket. Any experience with this particular MBW? I assume it is like the rest in that it has a case size close to the original?
