Breitling charges €500 for a B13 which is 7750 off course.
It all depends on how much faith you have in the watchmaker. If you send your watch off to Breitling for example you know that your watch will get a proper service, documents of proof and guarantee. You can bring your watch to your local jeweler who will quote you $75 bucks and probably only does a partial disassembly if you are lucky, some oil on easy accessible jewels, regulation and ready within 30 min. A proper service with uncasing, cleaning, inspecting individual parts, oiling, regulation, checking seals, waterproofing, aligning all hands etc takes about 6-7 hours for a 7750 if done right. And that is if you do an easy ETA version. The A7750 often holds some surprises which can easily ad some hours....
So can you get a full service for $30 or $100 or $150 bucks? Sure! But you need to go by the reputation of the watchmaker to be certain if you get what you pay for. In my opinion no self respecting and skilled watchmaker will ever charge you less than $200 for a regular lay out 7750.
My 0.002
Will you service my watch Rolexman. We all know your the best, and your my preferred option. Lol
I can work with your timescale, so willing to wait! Pm me if ok.
Thanks

Yeh I looked at the EU guys, but it looks like they are all pretty busy. I would send it to MD2020 but I can't risk it getting seized on the way in, I got too much money in it to lose.
I may send it to this guy, he certainly has an excellent reputation, and is willing to help me out, which is appreciated. Might as well stick to the movement in it and see what he says and go from there I guess.

Will a ETA 7750 fit straight into a DW case and dial? I didn't think it would?

Do master watchmakers command a premium?
-
Hi guys,
A master watchmaker has quoted me $359 + any parts needed for a full service of my DW Daytona.
It seems expensive, however I am running out of options here in the UK.
He is a master watchmaker willing to do my rep!

Is it good value?

Cheers

Cheers for the warm welcome guys, it's appreciated. Don't know how I'd go if I try and product review anything I buy as I don't have much to compare against. I might give it a go though.
p.s. for MD2020 - Copied from wiki.answers.....
'Kiwis, a nickname used by Pakeha (non-Maori) New Zealanders, are named after a unique flightless bird about the size of a large chicken. The Kiwi was named by the Maori after it's call which sounds like keeee weeee. How the nickname stuck is unknown but nothing else exists like it in the world and New Zealanders like to think that we are unique. We ARE NOT named after the small brown fruit. In New Zealand they are called Kiwifruit never ever just "Kiwi" the kiwifruit was a marketing name as New Zealand was the first place where they were grown commercialy but they never got around to trademarking the name.'
Tumeke, I'm a Kiwi living in the UK, I have a natural suntan. Lol

Welcome mate, I'm in the UK as well, enjoy the ride.

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR

If you are willing to do some serious modding to the inside of the DW case, just about any V72 can be made to fit. However, considering the condition of that movement, fit may be the least of your problems. The movement may have other needs beyond a basic overhaul, which can only be determined once the watchmaker has it apart.
Thanks mate, need as much info as I can get!

Agree, I understand that it does, the seller is very upfront and honest about the movement, I don't mind spending the money, as its a long term watch for me.
IMO it is a reasonable price, what would the full strip down and repair cost look like approximate??

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR

Hi guys,

Team, i need advice and help please on this movement, as I am not technically proficient if this will fit in my DW Spinmaster 6263 and I want to get in right, it will need some work.

Here are the details on the movement I have been offered from a great member here:

V72
Movement Diameter 29.5m
Disc: The V72 needs a detent (the part that holds the stem in the movement), a tap 10 (.9mm) stem so a rolex crown will work, and it has one broken case screw, plus it needs a thorough cleaning/oiling/adjustment of the levers etc. I also have a new mainspring that goes with it.
The movement is held in place by two big head screws that butt against the caseback when it is screwed down. One of these screws is broken off but chances are it will come out easily when the movement is buzzed in an ultrasonic cleaning machine.

What do you guys think, ok to proceed?

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR

Thanks guys, I am looking at something now, will chime in when I get more indie to ask for your feedback, cheers

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR

How do you de-magnitize a watch?
Easiest way is to take the watch to a local watchmaker & have him demagnetize it. The process only takes a minute & some watchmakers will do this for free while you wait. No disassembly is required.
Alternatively, if you have a good, strong tape deck head demagnetizer (or video tape bulk eraser), you can use that. Simply, treat the watch as a tape head & follow the manufacturer's instructions (be careful not to scratch the crystal).
Thanks Freddy, will do this morning, will be interesting to see what he says about the watch? Lol
Cheers

Yeh I do like the look, I think it makes it more " Gen original " look considering the real deal is now 43 years old!I think it looks good even with the missing markers, it gives it that real vintage look. I really think that the Movt is magnitized try buying a demagnitizer and run the entire watch through it, or take it to a jewler shop that repairs watches.and they sholdent be able to help.
Will take your advice first, if not, I'll PM you again! Lol

Spin usually remove the auto winding mechanism, then you need to wind it daily about 30 turns.
5 mins per hour is too fast and some say it's beyond regulating! If you plan to keep the watch, have it serviced....MD2020 does an excellent job for a very good price if you're stateside. Domi is your European goto
guy. Can't remember where Rolexman is from, but I believe he also does service!
If Spin serviced the watch, then something is wrong, you might wanna let him know. Also, is that your dial or Spin provided it? You notice that you have a few missing hour markers???? This was typical of DW dials,
I had a couple like that.
Good luck!
Yeh your right, geez didn't see that there were hour markers missing, it was sold as a vintaged dial done by Spin.
Also all mods were done by spin, however I don't know how long ago.

Actually you may be right regarding that magnetizing, the seller did say the shipping may do that. I brought the watch as a DW Spinmaster watch, it apparently has a new serviced movement, which I don't doubt, because the seller is a fantastic guy so no reason to distrust there.
I have emailed Rolexman to ask if he may re-service it and give it the fix it needs.

How do you de-magnitize a watch?

Thanks guys, it was a big investment, so want to get it right as it will be my daily watch.
Cheers

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR

Also it seems to be gaining 5min per hour.
I pulled out to first position, and wound approx 30 times forward. Pulled out to last position and set time.

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR

Hi,
so here my story…
I sold a watch 4 months ago, that now broke with the new owner. Now the buyer wants a +/- full refund. He says that he never wore, as it is a summer watch.
I offered to fix it for him for free, if I could, but he chose to ask a watch smith, that then diagnosed a main spring issue…
I offered to buy it back for spares at 30% of the selling price (100USD), which I think is fair… I am not a dealer, so a guarantee or such I cannot give of course… and it is four months with him.
He paid via PP gift and has now threatened to “report me” to VISA…
Am I a scammer?

At the end of the day, Dutchys been here for 6 odd years and has nearly 1000 posts, I think I know whom I would trust, the other guys just a [censored].

To be honest, every watch I ever brought second hand had a problem of some sort of another when it arrived , hey it's a replica made in china after all with low quality qc checking. This guy needs to man up, if he wants champange service on a beer budget, he's dreaming. Things happen, that's life. Everything can be fixed. IMHO

Sent from SUNRAY MINOR
