  1. Guys, don't want to go OT, as we're talking 'bout bezel, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to get a tropic 16 glass. I have a gen 6536 case with gen movement and crown, I'm going to buy a NDT dial and bezel and Yuky 7206 riveted bracelet, but I still miss the crystal. I tried Clark and CWP (and NDT and Yuky), with no results. Any advice?

  2. Simply one of the most beautiful, simple, almost "icy" chronographs in the whole history (not only of horology, but of human kind...). I'm a happy owner of a recent (cal. 1863) Speedmaster from 2000, and love it every day, even if I don't wear it that much. I simply love looking at it (am I going insane?)

  3. I know guys, you're going to rip me, but IMHO IT'S AWFUL! The owner managed to completely wreck that watch. The black pearl is unuseful, the case without CGs but with triplock crown makes no sense...and a LV dial too??? Please God, forgive that guy, he doesn't know what he has done...

  4. Certainly the MBK 6538 is a good choice. The pearl needs work, and some people will nit-pick a few other points, but with some correct aging, it can be made to look nice. I consider these a step above the chinese no crown guard Bond subs. And certainly far cheaper than going the Yuki/NDT/J&W franken route.

There's something else I'd really like to know, guys. Do you know if the MBK 6538 case has the correct dimensions? I mean, we all know that it should be mm 37, not 40 like the models from 5512 onwards. Can someone talk about this? :g: That's even more important, if we consider to put a Yuki or NDT dial in it.

  5. Buddy, I'd keep the rep dial. It's one of the few rep dial that can't be distinguished from the gen (I know what I mean, believe me). I don't know if anybody ever had the chance to compare a GMTIIc rep with a gen (I did it): they are virtually undistinguishable, the only tell are the well known slight differences like the colour of the numbers in the bezel and the AR on cyclops.

  6. No Rolex originally came with NATO. Even the 5513/5517 military was given to members of UK Navy or Army head only, and it had to be coupled with a NATO strap after.

When you see the famous Bond photos, don't be swept away: ref. 6536, 6538, 5508 and 5510 all came, originally, with SS bracelet.

    Hope it helps.

  7. gen insert + crown and a oil-bath for the bracelet -

for the Meister check my sig - Domenico can help u ;)

    (but not with gen parts)

    cheers,

    Frank

You're perfectly right, Frank, but there's another issue that always keeps me away from my SSD (even if I like it A LOT): the markers at 5, 10, 15... should be thicker than the others (just like on any other Subs). And the most strange thing is that on the vintage SD (I mean, MBK or even cartel versions) those markers ARE actually bolder: why didn't they do the same on SSD? OK, the usual mystery: one step up, two steps back...
