  1. If you missed "Showtime! Part I - My rep journey so far...", do not despair. It's all preserved here: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=236846

But before we go into Part II, a word from my generous sponsors without whom this addiction cannot be sustained:

I normally arrange my watches by bands - stainless steel, leather, rubber and others like Kevlar and sailcloth. It's just so much easier to decide what to wear that way. I also use thumb tacks to keep track of what's been worn lately.

For this shoot, I've arranged my reps in alphabetical order. I love all my watches, but obviously some brands more than others. Here's the A-Z list of brands in my rep collection.

    A - A. Lange & Sohne, Audemars Piguet.

B - Bell & Ross, Blacpain, Breitling, Breguet

C - Cartier, Chopard, Concord, Corum

    G - Graham

    H - Hublot

I - International Watch Company (IWC)

J - Jaeger Le Coultre (JLC)

    L - Linde Werdelin

    I - Omega, Oris

    P - Panerai, Patek Philippe

    R - Roger Dubuis

    R - Rolex

    S - SevenFriday, Sinn

T - Tag Heuer, Tao International (technically, a Cartier "homage" ), Tudor

    U - U-Boat, Ulysses Nardin

    Z - Zenith

Now grab your bucket of popcorn or tube of KY jelly (whatever floats your boat. I'm not here to judge anyone! ), sit back and enjoy some watch porn.

Yes, that lone empty slot keeps me awake at night!

Come for the watches, stay for the drama!

  2. Stauer watches were my first introduction to watch collection. I loved the quirky unique designs. The over-the-top and possibly inaccurate background stories told with each piece in the advertisements are quite entertaining too. Even though my taste and collection have evolved, I love and still keep these 7 to remind me how far I've come in this hobby.

  3. John Kerry is married to Teresa Heinz, heiress to the Heinz ketchup fortune. He races expensive sailboats for a hobby. I'll go out on a limb and say he can afford and probably possesses far more expensive watches than what we see here. In his role as a public servant, it's best to be understated.

  5. Yea guys it looks like chi-town is bad news.I have a watch still showing "handed over to customs" in tracking info myself. The usual wait time for me once it hits customs is 1-2 days.By what I have read anything longer than 5-7 days and its pretty much a goner.Like hiker said though,i'm still crossing my fingers.Just am wondering how long I should wait before contacting the td to check on a replacement.Anyone had to deal with that issue and if so how long did the td want you to wait?

Never had to deal with the issue, but what I know is you'd have to wait till you get a written notice of the confiscation from Customs which you can then scan and e-mail to your TD as proof of the seizure.

  6. I believe this moment calls for some solemn words:

"Let's be sacrificers, but not butchers,

    . . . And, gentle friends,

    Let's kill him boldly, but not wrathfully;

Let's carve him as a dish fit for the gods,

Not hew him as a carcass fit for hounds...."

Ah eff it! Tear that loathsome amphibian to pieces, cc33!

  7. I wouldn't sweat it, OP. You're still innocent until proven otherwise. As the letter suggests, they just want to hear from you within the time stated. If you don't respond, the item is destroyed. Do you get entered on some database? Well, I imagine that stands to reason since there has to be some CYA documentation/record whether you call them or not. I wouldn't go as far as calling it a "watch list", though. Pun not intended.

By the way, did your package come through Chicago?

  8. A 5-rep package cooling its heels in customs for 2 weeks portends bad news, compadre. There's been a rash of rep seizures at the Chicago ISP lately, which will almost certainly spread to other ports of entry when words of "success" reverberate around the country. Contrary to what has been suggested, the POE is not random. It is predetermined at the POO (point of origin). What is random is which packages get pulled for inspection and what X-Rays reveals will heighten the level of scrutiny. We all pretty much know which areas of China most reps ship from and so do the customs people, I'm sure. It's a wonder most of our stuff make it through. I guess they've been doing "wink, nod, look the other way" until now.

These are troubling times in repdom, friends.

  9. I think we're just taking cues from watch commercials. The better ones tend to have the instrumentation panel of a "manly" form of transportation (car, boat, airplane) in the ad as indications of the trappings of success. Of course, there's also the gratuitous swooning, hair-blowing-in-the-wind beautiful girl. Can't go wrong with that!
