  1. Yeah, post a pic first

Careful with Cousins, they often ship wrong parts

Here a quick and dirty pic:

    http://imageshack.us.../dsc04156k.jpg/

    From left to right

    gen dial, cousins Item x22935 / omega 064pp3111033 32,6mm

rep dial 1 (replaced after mix-up) with asian eta underneath. ca 31mm

rep case, AR, waterproof, rep dial 2 (ca 31mm, too green, nice lume) and gen hands.

I used cousins part finder to order the dial, which gave me 3 options for the case omega 168.1640:

    064pp3111033 (the one I got)

064pp33011033 (the one that should fit)

    064pp33011034 (blue dial, should fit)

However I fear they won't reimburse me. I think I got the one I ordered, it has p3111 stamped on the back, and cousins will not care if their part finder made an error.

  2. could it be that I bought the wrong gen dial? I did a search on the net and couldn't find the size for it. Maybe one of the members could measure on of theirs?

thanks chrgod for your commiseration . :) when this watch is as I want it (I hope I'll get there) I'll be happy, regardless of the money sunk.

EDIT: I think I'm gonna cry. Gen SMP dial size seems to be 30.5mm according to some ebay sales.

    I ordered cousins Item x22935 / 064pp3111033 which has 32,5mm. should fit case 168.1640.

Am I being stupid again? Could someone tell me what size the gen dial is?

  3. Hello,

this is my first Franken-Project, and I already more than regret it. Part of it is my own spectacular stupidity (bought parts for a mid-size SMP), part is just plain bad luck.

I got a black SMP from watch-polo, which due to a legitimate mix-up already gave me some trouble. I let a trusted modder install a gen eta 2824, which now has reserve probs and needs to go to the doctor. This is cousins-uk fault, the movement already missed a date-wheel from the beginning.

got a very nice AR tough and some water-proofing. but, the worst thing, the gen dial I bought doesn't fit the case. case inner-size is 31mm diameter, gen dial 32,6mm, rep dial seems to be 31mm too.

so I still got the rep dial in it, but gen hands (different shade of green than the dial, of course) and a failing movement. and an innocent asian ETA in my desk.

my question: Has anyone heard of or seen cases that wouldn't take a gen dial? I always thought the parts were interchangeable. I'd already be more than happy if I could fit the gen dial.

cheers and thanks for the support,

    Hok

  4. Hello,

I recently bought a new, gen Eta 2824 for a seamaster project. I swapped the date wheel. Switching the date manually does work, however it doesn't work when I try to change the date by advancing the time 24 hours in time setting mode.

Sadly, I didn't check if date change worked before I swapped the date wheel.

I used the easy swapping technique, where you don't have to dissassemble anything. Could it still be that I did something wrong? Is there any reason that a uninstalled movement (with no hands attached) would not advance the date? did I buy a faulty item?

    thank you for your advice.

  5. Hello,

I kind of have the same problem.

I just received a 180 USD watch from a trusted dealer here, declared as a Swiss ETA 2824-2. Power Reserve, whether I wear it a day or wind it up, is ca. 8 hours. The watch is well regulated, gains 5 seconds in 12 hours.

What would be a reasonable expectation when contacting the dealer? Or is this something a service can fix RELIABLY and that I shouldn't bother to tell my dealer?

    thanks a lot

  6. This is a classic example of a watch that nobody will think is fake if you're the kind of guy who can wear a 12k rose gold watch, and which everyone will think is fake if you're not. The flaws (markers to the right of the date window, primarily, not to mention the rep is plated) don't matter 1/10 as much as you clothes, age, job, and comportment.

well it's a gift for someone who can pull it off, as a student i am sticking to the seiko divers :p

i'm just in a bad mood because i just realized that the current version is different from ELs, which i was thinking i ordered. (my error, really). and i was already overstretching my budget, too... :pinch:

  7. Yes I Think so! Sorry for the question but how old have your mother? Because you are looking for very classic watches! I need to know what do you really wants bscause jlc master control is very very different than a J12! So what is the best for your mum? A classic watch? Or a fashion watch?

    no problem.

she's 60 years old, civil servant 'executive'.

i'm rather searching for a classic watch like the breguet or the patek, with guilloche dial and such.

BUT if it is nice, i'll take something more sporty (like the j12) too.

  8. Hello,

my mom's birthday is coming closer, and i want finally to offer her a nice rep. she already has a gen cartier tank, but searches for something a bit larger with running secs.

i already scouted her tastes, and it comes down to this:

    dress watch

    38mm tops

    white face

    mechanic (!)

    large running seconds (!)

    good finish

    AR would be nice

    reliable movement too

i looked around a bit, found some that are interesting:

-jules audemars (no review on that here?) precious times

    -longines masters from precious times

-chanel j12 white, a bit more flashy but still interesting

-rolex ym, quite sporty, i'm especially unsure if she'll like the cyclops

it really doesn't have to be a ladies rep as long as its not too large.

can you give me some more tips on what to check out?

    tia
