  1. So far I have been lucky with the clearance, but it can for sure cause problems. Sometimes I will use a slightly thicker dial spacer if the canon pin is long enough to compensate. If you use fairly thin paper, remove the rep overlay first and make sure its perfectly attached with no high or low spots because of uneven glue, then you should be ok. I did try an overlay on a ETA day-date rep and there was no way i could space the dial far enough to clear the datewheel and also still be able to attach the hour hand properly. dizz
  2. I took one of the pics off the forums of a nice bold flat top 3 datewheel... saved the pic and printed it out to the right size on regular office printer paper. Looks damn good actually. Then i removed the rep datewheel off my ETA2836 and glued this one on instead... easy to make and lines up perfect. This isnt the best pic for showing the datewheel but you can get the idea of how it looks. All gen 16030 ETA2836 Dizzy date wheel Clarkes ETA Datejust hands Date snaps over perfect and all dates like up same as the one shown. Was easy to do. Everyone who is comfortable pulliing off a dial and hands should give it a try. You can make it as bold as you want and make the background whatever you want. I went for bold numbers with a dull white background.
  3. you can get them anywhere... Just make sure you get a set that takes 2mm spring bars. If they arnt exact then you just have to bend them a little. None of them are going to be as good a fit as a gen set of 580's though.
  4. Looks good... are they a paper overlay or a sticker?
  5. Awesome thread! lol I will ask again... Where can i get the perfect sub? Thats priceless. EDIT - If you have a gen 5508 why do you want a replica? I'd wear that gen and never take it off. If you want something anywhere near comparable as far as look and feel, you will need to get at least a Yuki case set and a good aftermarket dial, Yuki or better quality. Expect to pay $1200+ just for the parts. dizz
  6. I;ve seen them before... I like it!! Not sure where i got this pic but it was one of the gen forums... I am hoping the new super-case Daytonas (when they are announced) come with a black ceramic insert...
  7. So whats the difference between a Yuki 5510 case and a Yuki 6538 case? Are they the same other than the 5510 takes a cal.1570 and a 6538 takes a cal.1030?? If i was going to use a Yuki case with an ETA movement, should I get the 5510 because movement adapters for the 1570 to ETA are readily avail? What ETA do you need to put into a case made for a rolex cal.1030? Dizz
  8. yeah just a little more from the inside of the CG's.. same angles but just take out some meat from the inside, then you got in nailed. I like the bezel insert too
  9. Looks like he uses a 1665 case for his 5514. Still looks good though. Bezel seems a little thick also. So hard to tell with Yuki stuff, as it seems to change constantly. I like the dial on this one. The dark markers look good. dizz
  10. Ya where the hell did you find a Deep Sea dial?? lol
  11. Yeah I agree. Or keep that Rolex movement for something else and get a nice new chronometer grade ETA GMT movement 2893 or whatever it is. dizz
  12. Are you saying Yuki drilled the hold oversized or something, and used glue to hold the tube in the right place?? dizz
  13. Shouldnt be too hard to do. That matt spray dries on contact so it wont run as long as you do a couple SUPER light coats, and thats all you will need. I just looked at my new DW dial and the silver pie pan subdials are pretty matt. They are textured and definately dont look shiney. I know my old DW paul newman dial had shiney subdials but this new one I got last month is pretty good. Mine is a V72 dial so I dont know if there is a texture difference between mine and a 7750 layout dial. dizz
  14. All the rep 5512, 5513, 1680 etc are tapped for the replica tubes they build the watch with. The Rolex 702 tubes havent been used in 25+ years.
  15. How much is a gen 93250 bracelet these days? Apparently the gen endlinks used to fit the WM9 but who knows whats going to fit this new model. You might be better off trying to find a used WM9 bracelet for $100 than spending up to $1000 on a gen bracelet that might not even fit. Or get a Noobmariner bracelet and put on a gen clasp like i did.
  16. Thanks for the info. Its easy to see the differences between the 702 and 703 when they are side by side like this.
  17. Ive never really seen any aftermarket 16520 dials or other parts. WO990 has 16520 bezels and pushers. Dials come up on ebay once in a while but you will have to look to find a wrecked one. I assume most people would send the watch to Rolex to get a new dial installed since there isnt much avail in the aftermarket.
  18. You cant see the movement anyways.. and that Rolex engraved 2836 isnt going to fool ANYONE who knows anything about Rolex. The movement looks nothing like a 3135. Its clearly an ETA copy with different engravings. Dizz
  19. Just think how many watchmakers out there (non rolex cert watchmakers), have drawers full of old parts pulled off serviced watches. Just about every watchmaker in the world is going to have a handfull of Rolex parts laying around in parts bins. Plus all the people like us that have lots of vintage parts laying around... Add that up and theres your endless supply.
  20. $38 plus $15 shipping for two overlays? I bet he pays 25 cents for them and ships them for free same as he ships his 7836 bracelet. I suck with CAD programs and such but why cant someone who knows this stuff, scan one and print them off to sell. Cant be that difficult to scan one and reprint it the correct size. I used a regular scanner and scanned one at 300dpi and reprinted it. Came out pretty good but not as sharp as it should be. dizz
  21. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks Teejay!
  22. No chrono, no diver... Pure Datejust. All gen 16030 with ETA2846. Dial is from newer 16200 series case. I have the original silver 16030 dial but I love the look of a black dial much much more.
  23. I think the DW dial that you have is the best option other than gen.
  24. What do you guys use to build that texture? I have matt clear spray but it doesnt look chunky like this one. This is the exact dial look I want to achieve on my 6538 project. dizz
