WOW Beautiful watch JoJo! I've got no pics to offer so Im going to sit back and enjoy the show!
-
Thanks for the thoughts anyways Ubi! After seeing the difference in rehaut between the two, the choice is apparent. I did not know there was a difference. There isnt too much talk these days here about the old daytonas... Thats probably a good thing though because I would be broke if I got excited about this one again! dizz

Ive got a Yuki 7206 stretchy link coming for it any day now... This 9315 is in the twilight of its lifetime, meaning there isnt much meat left in those folded links and its wearing thin. I think the 7206 will look good with this dial. I'll take some better pics with the new bracelet when it arrives. dizz

Damn thats cool JMB. I'll have to make an appt with you to work your magic on this PT1680 case I have here in front of me. I originally put a t-39 onto this watch and the crystal cracked all around the base exactly like this one in your pictures. Stupid Submariners!

lol OMG that Yeti is about to step on that Sea-dweller!!! ... oh wait... whose feet are those?

I think i will end up going with a v72 case... I dont see this one getting completed anytime soon.

The forcast called for 3-4cm of snow overnight... more like half a foot so far! I thought I would take my newest MBW1665 creation out for a breath of fresh air. MBW1665 old case modded and aged lightly gen t-39 superdome gen insert (I love how they snap right in!) & tritium pearl gen bezel assembly gen crown and tube gen white 1665 tritium dial saved from the "Re-dialer" and modded by me. ETA 2846 motor with Puretime flat top 3 datewheel (aligns perfect) gen 9315 folded bracelet The dial was trashed and ready to be repainted. Offered the owner a trade for my gen singer repaint dial, so my old repaint went to the watchmaker for a new paintjob, and his original gen dial went into my pocket. After a lot of work I ended up with super aged and dark orange markers and a really faded black water damaged look. Dizz

So whats the difference between the DW mystery movement case and the v72 case? Thickness? I guess I'll just throw my 6263 in the trash and start over... I remember a number of years back, there were two complete v72 watches for sale that apparently belonged to DW himself. Asking price was $1800 each I believe... or maybe it was $2800? Either way I should have bought one. It would have been cheaper than this 4 year project I'm still working on here... dizz

I agree, about $4000 and yes its definately been polished a couple times.

Very nice! I see you took some metal off the case under the crown, to bring the crown closer to the bezel. Thats the ONE thing bugging me about my MBW is that the case is too wide and you get that weird "gap" of too much metal between the base of the crown and the bezel. Anyone who has an old skool MBW will know what i mean. I'm going to try filing mine a bit next time I pull it apart. Same issue on my 1665 too. dizz

I guess that a good way for the rep factory to save 4 cents per watch.
-
Im doing the same project. Only problem is the V23 now costs as much as a v72!!!
-
Not all gens are perfect. I got these pics from Jakes Rolex Blog. He was talking about exactly this.

You are want to build the ultimate 1675 then check this out My link
-
Yes it will line up perfectly. The datewheel is correct, but the PT datewindow is off for some reason.
-
WOO Hooo!!!

It depends what level of accuracy you want, and how much you want to spend. If you just want to add a gen crown and mod the case a little to make it look older then go with the PT sub and you'll be into it for about $400 parts and labour, unless you can mod it yourself then you are a little lower on price. If you want to go a little hardcore then you can easily spend a $1000+ on an MBW build. If you are going with a gen Rolex movement, then go with a Yuki case for $500 or better. Phong cases are about $1500 but they are regarded as the best case out there and you are getting into the VERY accurate super franken territory of $2500+ Costs are only aprox figures but you can see how the price quickly jumps up as you use better and better parts. My MBW1680 for example MBW watch $400 Gen 1680 Tritium NOS white letter dial $900 Serviced ETA2846 with clarke hands $250 Gen T-127 crystal $250 Gen 93150 Bracelet with 580 ends $600 Gen crown and tube $100 expensive aftermarket insert $90 Thats $2500 in parts right there before labour for someone to build it, BUT its very very accurate. My PT1680 Watch $200 from Puretime Service movement say $100 NEEDS gen crown say $50 used Need better dial say a Yuki $150 Need better clasp say $50 for a rep bracelet with better clasp to swap in. Crystal is junk so need one of those and oh yeah it doesnt fit so I have to send it to JMB to get a ring made and case milled so the crystal fits.... and a lot of CG work.. So to get the PT to good modded condition is about $500 before paying someone like JMB to do his metal magic, BUT this is only a few $ more than a stock MBW so... For a Phone case setup take my MBW estimate and add $1000 more for the case plus another $1000 for a gen movement (prob closer to $1500 after servicing) So now we are at $4500. You may as well buy a gen for the same price and not have an aftermarket case. I admit I have spent way too much on my 1680 but its been a slow progression over a number of years. It my daily beater but I keep adding gen parts.
-
The yuki case isnt too bad. Any case you get will need some mods to make it right. If you are keeping the ETA movement, then the MBW is just fine. If you are wanting to use a gen Rolex movement then go with the Yuki because its built to take a the gen 15xx rolex motor.
-
You cant even compare the quality MBW 1680 to this one you linked here. Apples and oranges. This one is way overpriced IMHO. The Puretime 1680 at $198 is 10x more accurate. Dial looks cheap crown is wrong, tube looks nothing like a 24-703 triplock tube End links way off Bracelet is solid link and incorrect New hologram caseback 1680 sticker? uhm... I would avoid this one. There are better alternatives for less money.

Its funny how members are posting and basicly telling Orchi that hes crazy and to shut up lol I'll have to check in there later to see how its progressing.
-
Errr... VRF buddies make fun of Orchi all day... lol Seriously, I was ready to post something nasty on VRF this morning. All the 5510 crap is getting annoying especially the way Orchi posts with his nonsensical confusion. He says its his bad engligh but it sounds more like Yoda talking in his backwards sentences. He keeps asking the same questions over and over and has multiple threads going. He was the guy on VRF calling out fakes, aftermarket parts and even criticizing everyones sales posts. Today he has a thread a GMT master thread where he didnt think the seller posted enough critical info and basicly trash talked the watch in open forum. I finally had to post something. Orchi reminds me of Klink that used to be around, except Orchi is much more annoying. Him and JJ Aranie or whatever his name is should both be banned. There a couple of idiots on VRF that all think they are the 'be all end all' when it comes to Rolex knowledge. All they do is fight with each other on the public forum. They are all watch dealers I think. It got really bad during the "BOB Submariner" auction recently and is now spilling over to this new 5510 with 1530cal movement conspiracy. If they dont grow up soon Im going to have to make a "Ban worthy" post there soon telling these guys how silly they look. Should get interesting
-
Very nice! Yes you have the older version that has the A7750 at 21,600bph. Normally that wouldnt be a good thing, but in this case the movement worked. Its hard to tell from your picture, but you should also have the thinner, more accurate case. dizz

An MBW case will be hard to find right now and apparently the store in MBK is temp closed. The PT 1665 isn't the same quality as the MBW. There's a few members here that will have access to them fairly soon. Keep your eyes open for a used one in the sales section in the mean time. They are worth about $200 is you can find one. dizz
