"It is becoming unsustainable .... by now even buying from abroad on Ebay involves paying tax after tax, which in my opinion is unjustified."

    True!

If I did not already have most of the parts, I could no longer afford this 'hobby'.

    One dial question stands out:

Why are Raffles dials one third to one tenth the price of other dials and 90% (or more) as good?

Probably all of us fans of this hobby let ourselves be conditioned, that buying expensive is the best way to get the most perfect builds possible. For example, some time ago I bought a 5517 Yuki dial (26mm), but just a few days ago I realized that it doesn't fit the case which instead fits a 29mm dial. So I'll have to get another dial from Raffle...that's 29mm. But frankly I'm not sure I have the best. What do you think?

I have uncureable pancreatic cancer, but this thread isnt about me. When I feel my time is coming, I’ll start a thread.

I hug you friend ... I dare not imagine what you think. It is unfair that we should leave this world for incurable diseases. An example of this is my compatriot Vialli who, at the age of 58, just today flew to another world.

David.. this might seem a bit strange, but I’m in the process of kicking the bucket myself. Selling off watches, collectibles, audiophile parts etc. I know that my parents have No clue what is what.

What I want to say is..(I don’t know the degree of nerdyness you got in this hobby). If the inheritancea are unclear What is genuine, what is ”aftermarket” and help with valuation I’ll gladly help. Who knows, those funds could help a local charity or something..

I’m just expressing my thoughts, that swirl around.

P.S. Don’t wait to long with help, at least from my part as I might have started the real journey by then.

What are you saying man?...I hope I misunderstood.
If you too are not well.. I'm really sorry. I hope your health can recover to the fullest dear friend. I agree with the help to David. Wise thing to do.
Good luck. If you have a need for any reason. There are.

  4. I have to apologize to David and to all of you forum friends. Only now reading Hologramet's reply post do I realize that the legendary Bob has passed away. An exemplary man and always ready to give advice for us watch enthusiasts. I always remember the wonderful photos of him with images of the watches and the unusual ones of his places ... the ones on the bears ... of which he was proud. I, who live on the island of Sardinia, communicate with him that living in those parts of Alaska gave me a sense of pride and freedom. Now I find myself here writing these words bathed in tears .... for you Bob that you're gone. You have always been like a beacon light in this forum.
God bless you, my friend. 🙏
Condolences David..and sorry for being late.

    RIP dear Bob.nome2.JPG
