Not really a fan of Macallan until I had this, ACE'd in Chateau Petrus casks.
Currently on shelf:
1984 Yamazaki*
Lagavulin 16yr
Ardbeg 10
Bowmore Darkest 15yr
Hakushu 12yr*
Yamazaki 12yr*
Bruichladdich Laddy 10
Tullibardine 1993, Sherry Wood
*Technically not Scotch from Scotland, but the Japanese are doing wonderful Scotch Method Whisky.
I'll second that. Recently made the switch and started buying more japanese Whisky. Some real nice blends.

Hmmm... there have been many different Arabic dials over the years but I have never seen one quite like that before. I would maybe err on the side of caution.

SD personally but go with what you like most and not what others perceive or recommend to be the best etc?

In the first paragraph of your post, you said an aluminum 16610. Did you mean stainless steel, because to my knowledge Rolex has never made an aluminum watch! Stainless, stainless/gold, solid gold (yellow, white and rose gold) no exotic metals, ceramic, etc. and certainly not aluminum.
Like others said, probably 95+ % of used Rolex watches are sold without papers. Most folks who buy watches could care less about the boxes, and over time the papers get misplaced, lost to thrown away. So, that is not a plausible reason. Also that's BS about not having time to take it to and AD, unless you live out in the sticks like me and are 100 miles from the closest AD.. This deal sounds fishy to me, as that selling price is about a third or less of the going prices. I would guess that this watch is either a good replica, or a stolen or "found" watch, none of which are worth either the 1k or the hassle that comes from having a watch with a dodgy provenience.
AFA finding out if it's stolen, Rolex no longer provides that service except to dealers at their request. If a watch is stolen and reported to the police, if the owner has the serial number, then that info may be sent to the area pawn shops. They may also send stolen watch info to AD's and jewelers who deal in watches, but all of this is on a local basis, so if a watch were stolen in Houston TX, a pawn shop or AD In say New Orleans would not have access to that info. I'm not even sure if a Rolex Service Center checks serial numbers on watches that are sent in for repair. So what I'm saying is while you might buy a a stolen watch and own it all your life with no problems at all, you would always have that doubt in the back of your mind that " this watch might be stolen, and I can't treat it as a normal legit watch" Personally, no matter how good the deal is, it's not worth the hassle and worry.

My thoughts exactly. Although, I think he may mean aluminium bezel insert model, perhaps? Differentiating it from later ceramic models.

Looks set to be a tremendous build mate.
Still, would have probably had the MBW machined and saved the extra outlay, if Im honest.

Like I always say about travelling the globe, a smidgen of paranoia keeps you on your toes and hopefully out of trouble... Buying watches is the same.
Best of luck Jonathan

Run for the hills me laddo!
Alternatively, and if you're still keen of course. Snap some pics and post them here. Well soon tell you if its the real deal or not.

Thank you for clearing that out!
You're very welcome.

Watched Tomorrowland earlier on. There's 2 hours of my life I will never get back! Another typically modern 'Form over function' film. All CGI and no plot. Tried but failed on a monumental scale. Although I did like Hugh Laurie's character.

Its a Black suit, white shirt, and polka dot tie by the looks of things.

AVOID - None of it is gen mate. Although the case itself is the least obvious, the serials sit too high.
Please report and save someone the anguish if this is being purported as genuine.
Cheers.

Persol 714?

Thought I had found a bargain for a second... until closer inspection:-
No other words - completely F&$%ed! The dial looks absolutely horrid.
God knows why he's put that bracelet on it either.

I built a 666 once. I had to sell her though and regret it dearly.
I used all gen parts.
The crystal retaining system of the 16660/16600 is unlike any other Rolex. It's a 3 - part system that has a removable rehaut ring. Extremely difficult to install a crystal without the right tools. Also the gen crystal has different dimensions compared to other sapphire subs.

Awesome build. So entirely Gen?
Just noticed your rep score is +666 how spooky and ironic!

Some good feedback. Genuine vintage DJ's are very reasonable. You could also consider having MyManMatt build you one. He has built me many watches and he specializes in DJ and DD. He has his own source for parts and they are gen spec. Generally more in the 1K range though, depending on how many genuine parts are used. Do a search of mymanmatt and you will see some of his work. You can also PM me and I will send you some pics.
But generally there really isn't much in it. Although MMM's builds are very good the costs could soon rack up and you could be in Vintage gen territory say a nice 1601/1603.

Well just to update this thread I've acquired all of the parts I wanted for this build without selling a kidney in the process.
BPSD 16600case
Gen 16660 dial
Gen 16600 insert
Gen 704 crown
TC Hands and DWO
And the 2836 is coming in next week
I'll have to get with Justin and have him drill the lug holes and tap a new hole for a tube that'll fit the crown.
I'm getting pretty excited
Thats funny as I thought your profile pic was of a kidney for a second there. TBH I find Phong too expensive and think that BP SD case is good enough with some modification. As occb2 rightly pointed out triple 6's used cal. 3035 so it may be best to go with Yuki 3135 for less trouble or alterntivley correct dial feet to fit the 2836 thats on its way. I look forward to seeing the completed build and if you require any 16660 pics as reference then let me know. Good luck and enjoy.

Fantastic write up. Really appreciate this Kime.

Easiest way to educate yourself is by getting stuck into the mountain of knowledge here on this and many other forums. Read up. There's no short cuts Im afraid. I personally wouldn't bother with a rep DJ when you can find some really nice Vintage pieces at very reasonable prices these days. Save yourself the embarrassment down at the lodge and go Gen.

I feel sorry for that baby. Assuming there is a baby inside the pram and he's not just robbed it.
