Hi friends !
After reading jelliotz last build & JoeyB advices, I want to try dial decals print by myself.
Rolex 6536 custom build
http://rwg.cc/index.php?/topic/182539-Rolex-6536-custom-build
Bought decal paper, micro set and Sennelier gloss acrylic varnish. I can't find Krylon Crystal Clear spray in France.
Found a good high res 6538 pic and worked it on photoshop.
It's a very long pixel by pixel work, and many high quality printing test on photo paper.
First decals test printing is good, better than I expected.
Bubbles are due to some dust on decal paper sheet.
The varnish spray remove the ink from bubbles, leaving holes in print. It's not serious for a first test try. I'll clean sheet before print next time.
Here is the result on a dial plate. I think it's sharp enough.
More soon...
Thank you for reading

I can't even with the right angle.
With the plexi on case it's impossible.
I've achieved to put retaining ring on plexi not on case. It's very hard and the bezel won't turn.

For gilt chapter ring dials I use clear decal paper, printed at the highest dpi my printer allows without making puddles, photo setting. I lightly swirl sand the bras dial by hand using a burgundy scotchbrite pad. The light swirls give a more gilt look. In the decal pictured, the white is actually clear in use. Most inkjet printers do not print white, so, the brass shows through where the white is.
I used pictures from the internet, then tweaked in my photoshop program. I'm no computer techie, so I did it all the hard way. Made it round, sized, then sharpening all the script by enlarging the picture and smoothing by each pixel. A lot of experimentation, learning what worked and what didn't. I actually enjoyed it, so something must be wrong with me...
Thanks !
I give it a try.

Find a crystal you really like and buy a few, then I'd sand the inner retaining ring down if you don't have the tools (it's easier) allow 0.40/0.50 to squeeze on some might say more or less that's just what I'm accustomed to doing, if you do have a lathe use that.
Thank you for the tip.
But as I read many cartel 5512/3 threads with Clark t19 mod, I don't understand why it can't fit on mine. Many members replace cartel plexi with Clark, sternkreuz, or Ofrei t19 without any work on case or ring.

Hi !
I broke my Cartel 5512 plexi few weeks ago. I was not disappointed because I intended to replace it by a better one.
I ordered a Sternkreuz XS 303 472 and a Clark 25-19. They fit the case well but not the retaining ring.
The retaining ring internal measurement is 30.05 mm.
What can I do ? Sand plexi side a little ? File the ring ? Order another ref ?
Thanks.

The small crown Sub is my favorite as well. I don't know if the 6536 used a 6mm '+' crown or not, as the 6204 did. I think Rafflestime still has some at a very good price, but they do need some modding. I ordered several in case of modding mistakes, and for any that break. Surprisingly, so far, not one has failed. Make certain to get the right tube for your case by measurement.

I have used the water slide decals for a few years now. I think that the gilt chapter ring dials in particular, they are very good. It did take a lot of trial and error to figure out allowing the brass background to show through the printed dial portion, but the results were well worth the effort. The 'patina' can be controlled by your use of the spray sealer. I use a water based acrylic 'glow paint' for my lume.
As JoeyB said, you can do a lot with the decals. They're very durable. Just takes a little time learning to get them right.Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
It's a fantastic work !
I imagine you print a dial on decals, then cut text and chapter ring with precision to reveal the dial brass.
I wonder how to print dial with quality. I already tried to print good quality dials pics on premium photo paper, but the results is very bad. Text and chapters were unclear.
As I know that vectorization is better than bitmap, I'm trying to draw a simple white 5513 dial with illustrator.

can anyone link me to MQ? sorry for the inconvenience

It's fantastic ! Love those dials.

Stunning !
What is the process to make this kind of dial. If it's not a secret...
-
Wow ! Great work.
How do you achieve to have this effect on the dial ? And what dial source ?
-
-
I'm curious to know the process to add metal on the lugs...
-
Wow ! Don't know how you achieve these lugs extensions. But I can imagine it's a lot of work.
Stunning !

Hi Jack well I ordered a 5513, 5513 3,6,9, 5517 and a 1665 from Sead just for fun, He got the new cases and I asked for the 2813 just because if I do any work I will put in a 2846 or something low beat. Then I asked Helenarou to build me a full on 6538. I got this itch for vintage and even if I get a Yuki 5513 i can always flip the cartel watches. All you guys are a bad influence!!!!!
HR 6538 is very nice and quality build. I advice to replace hands with Clark's Tudor hours and minutes, and OnlinestoreHK white lollipop seconds.

I use 1,3mm HSS Cobalt drill bit at my dremel 3000 minimum 10000rpm speed without any problem.

Gorgeous indeed.
Is this a tonnywatch dial ?

Superbe !

Thanks alligoat!
Think it's Swiss too.
Nice discovery, I was thinking it was an ETA clone when I bought It.
It's a bit more vintage
