Have you tried using the chronograph function? The faux chrono Daytonas normally will have the long second hand that follows the smaller (secs @6 second hand). Try unscrewing the top pusher and press it. If the long second hand starts then you have a functional chronograph. If it just moves one of the subdial hands incremently then it is a faux chrono. I received my Swiss IHS from Andrew at the end of last week. It has progressively lost time and is now losing between 5-6 minutes per day. Per Andrew I am giving it a week but it does not look promising.
The best thing I have found is a something called a "Sand Turtle" that my AD turned me on to. It is basically a type of nail buffer that can be found in a beauty supply store. I'm not sure if there are different grades of them but I get the purple ones. It applies a nice brushed finish.
