Go with the one modded by Vac. Im sure you wont be disappointed.
Thumb....Please check your PMAll, i'm sorry for dragging this out some more, but I really need some candid feedback. I was really eyeing thumb's modded 177h, but it is on hold... in the event that he sells it or cannot get me another one, here are my options:
DSN's PAM082: ($380)
He is out of the 177H modded ones, till next month, so that's out. This 082 has the upgrades of the 177h he is selling, as well as a better lume than standard 082.
Angus' 177h: ($258 shipped)
His quality seems very good and good feedback from members. The movement is chinesse however, and I don't know much about his lume and AR.
Josh/Andrew 177h ($298)
Nothing overly exciting...base watch. I would have to send it to Vac for lume + AR mods. Dunno what the quality is, but it does have a Swiss Unitas 6497 Hand Wind with Swan Neck movement.
Used but Modded 177h, mods by Vac: (~$500)
mods include:
1) Vac super Lume
2) tight Lever
3) Flush pin
4) Thick titanium CG flush to case
5) PALP CROWN (there are no more on the market... impossible to find)
6) Dyed off white dial font to match exact with gen
7) Swiss swan neck regulator movement fully 100% serviced and water proofed
Adjust movement beat and rate
9) Jimmy Fu hands
10) Real sapphire single AR coated crystal like gen
11) Cannon pinion upgrade and flat top, polish
Hopefully I can buy something today....

Congratulations on your purchase.
My original order for a SFSO Swiss ETA in the white face was stolen in transit with my wife signing for an empty bag.I contacted Jay with the full details and without hesitation he agreed to send a replacement however only the black face model was available. This was more than acceptable and due to his excellent back up I volountereed to pick up the cost of the second shipment (after all Jay was in no way to blame for the original problem).
The watch arrived in the UK only 5 days after posting, an excellent response to a customer who encounters a problem. Having now used Angus & Jay I have nothing but absolute trust in both. Well worthy of their dealer status and the reputation it carries.
On to the watch.... Whoaaa!!!!
I have a BCE ultimate in graphite which was widely acclaimed on this site so I had an idea of the level of quality to expect. When I opened the package my instant reaction was this is even better. This really does deserve its reputation as a super rep. The AR on the saphire is unbelievable and the lume looks outstanding.
To say I'm a happy man is an understatement. I am over the moon with both the purchase and the service I received.
Again its a big thanks to all who advised on the watch over the months since its release, the dealers and the best way of resolving my service issue (thanks Victoria).
No onto the next watch... this is a highly contagious hobby
I'm off to stare at my new watch now

Well said.
I've had three ETA SOSF reps (two from Silix) and all three of them have the "little box" in the proper location. I've held them side by side with my '06 gen and you'd need a 10x loupe to notice any difference in the second hands....other than the color of the tip, which is a bit brighter on my gen. There are quite a few other details that are much more obvious...such as the color/quality of the lume dots. Put the rep next to a gen SOSF and the second hand will be the last difference you notice. If that little detail bothers you so much, then I doubt any rep will make you happy.
-
Now I know that I have the SFSO that is the same with others who also got theirs from Silix.
Even gens have flaws. I think you should not worry too much. It is still a rep and I think that an AD or gen owners will not even measure this just to make sure that it is right or wrong...
Am I losing the plot here? My SFSO is the Asian version from Silix (could the ETA have different sized hands?). I stopped the second hand at 12 and compared it with the pic posted by fivefive and I couldn't see any major difference !!fivefive may I suggest you buy the gen ?
-
fivefive, can you post pics of comparison of what you are talking about so we can see?
Well that is not 3mm out, but i tell you what if it bothers you so much sell it to me! -
FxrAndy, I agree with you. This is still a rep. I dont believe that Silix sold these because of the flaw that fivefive is talking about.
About your question on which is the rep, mine is.
-
$700 USD is too much for a replica. I suggest that you do a search and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.
I know I did!
Regards.
-
Thanks lanikai, I will definitely purchase a gen croc brown strap for it. Still dont know whether with a buckle or a deployant.
Regards.
Congrats Stagfan .. agree with the whole membership ... I actually like the collectors brown leather strap for now .. hope your SOSF brings you long wear..LIVE STRONG AND WEAR IT WELL
-
FxrAndy, is a good thing or a bad thing? I am really not concerned about this but if this is a big issue then can it be fixed?
hehe
Regards
I am going to have to concede here as no i have stopped looking at fireman freds SFSO and actualy went up highenough to see the pics that stagfan posted His seconds hand does look a tiny bit longer, ie the marker square is further out, not a lot and you would have to be lucky to notice if but, it is.Sorry 55 i did not read fully what you wrote and had been comparing the wrong pics.
-
FxrAndy, I cant seem to understand your question. What square are you referring to?
No i got mine from PT but as far as i am aware there is only one factory making the SFSO, is it different, if you have one from silix then stop the seconds at 12 and put some comparison pics up so that we can see.@ Stagfan, is the placement of the square on you SFSO different from all the other millions of pics on the board and the Gen?
-
Guys, can you point me in the right direction? Will this movement fit both models?
Thanks for any info.
-
Thanks FxrAndy, It really feels great and the quality of the watch is the best Ive seen. Now I am in the hunt for an IWC and I am torn between the 3717 and the 2006 Cousteau Diver. Maybe I will just wait for the reviews of the Aquatimer before pulling the trigger on one.
Fireman_Fred, You are absolutely right! I am also looking for the perfect leather strap to compliment my silver dial SFSO. Not sure whether a deployant or buckle.
hey Stagfan welcome to the club wearing mine right now, but that watch could spoil rep collecting for ever, the quality of it is just top. You might never feel a rep like it again, but i hope we all will. -
Nice pics DuDro...

Sorry for the crappy pictures...

BOB bands are 22mm/18mm, is this what I need?
I heard there are also 22mm/20mm.
Im confused.
22mm -
Thanks for the info. What is the size of the strap for the SFSO? Is it 22mm or 20mm?
-
AFIK, BOB does not carry aftermarket straps, but I'm another one of his happy customers. I have several straps from him and they are all extremely good value for money.
Thanks for the info! Im browsing his site right now.
-
Thanks guys. Aside from going to an AD to purchase a gen leather strap, do you recommend BOB or watchprince.com for aftermarket leather straps?
Which is the dealer that sells the best leather/quality straps out there?
-
Guys, Im gonna get a leather strap for my SFSO white dial soon. Im wondering which is better on it, a deployant or buckle.
Your opinions will help me decide. Thanks!
-
I went for the white/silver dial. I now want to get rid of the SS bracelet and replace it with a genuine leather strap. Wondering where to get it...
-
Thanks for the info. I really dont know how to open the caseback. With regards to AR, yes I see a blue hue at a certain angle.
One problem I noticed is that the bezel is a bit loose. How do I tighten it?
Sorry for the questions...
-
Hi guys. I received my very first rep today. The SFSO from Silix. I was really excited to open the package. As soon as I saw the watch, I was really amazed by the quality of the watch. As a newbie to reps, I am not really familiar as how to identify if this really is the ETA version w/double AR. But I really trust Jay and I know that he will not send me a crappy one.
One problem I noticed is that the bezel is a bit loose. I wonder if it can be tightened and how?

Thanks scoobs1971, I wanted to purchase the 3717 then swap it with the ETA movement so it will be reliable compared to the asian version.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.
