  1. ...and make sure you tell the wife that watches are a better addiction to fuel than drugs and internet porn...that will surely make things right.
  2. Welcome aboard. Start by reading the Noob Guide linked in my signature, and you'll enter the rep world with your eyes open instead of blindly crashing into a brick wall. To understand the "culture" of this forum...READ LANIKAI'S SUPPORT THREAD.
  3. Indeed...thanks for the comparison. The 95 is looking the best in my opinion as well. I think this piece has to have the highest ratio of bezel:crystal around!! I just don't understand their pricing though. This cost almost as much as the UN Diver Chrono??? Sure it's a Swiss movement...or is it?
  4. Welcome aboard...and I see you're already having fun. Don't forget to post pics!!
  5. Very nice, classy looking piece and very nice pix as well. You could try loading them up using an offline photo server and linking them to your post...then the larger images (resize to 800x600) will be right in the body of the message. Great stuff!!
  6. Generally...no Asian movement is a direct swap to an ETA (copy, A7750 or otherwise). Some mods have to be done...broaching hands, cutting dial feet, gluing the dial, new datewheels, etc. You can do it...but don't go in thinking it's a quick in-out job.
  7. There's apparently a watchmaker in the UK named Michael something or other. Do a search on this and you should find him. He seems to have quite the credentials from what I remember and can work on 7750 chrono movements, reps and gens. BACK TO THE BUSINESS...Lani...you're always one step ahead in making this community great. Like others above have said...never thought before RWG of supporting a forum like this...but after realizing what a community it is, and the quality of info here...how can you not? I want to make sure this great resource is there to feed my hobby interests.
  8. I just did some reading on the IWC Deep Two and realized it would probably never get repped because like your UN GMT, the complication of it will never get done. Apparently the extra ring gauge on the Deep Two (aka IW354701) is a mechanical depth gauge. The rep factories will never rep this function. HOWEVER...I think in faux form it would still be great. It's a big watch though...46mm x 15.5mm...not as thick as a Skyland, but slightly wider!
  9. Some of the AR on the reps like the IWC Cousteau CD (2006) or the Breitling Skyland are IMHO pretty close to the gen. The gens are a little easier to mark with finger prints and little better...but not by much. Chief's offerings for the most part seem better than the gens. He had offered a couple flavour of AR. One was really low reflectivity with less tint...and the other with not as low reflectivity but with the blue reflective tint. From what I was reading here, the blue tint version was closer to some gen specs...while the newer, less reflective coating while not quite to gen specs...BLEW THEM AWAY!!! Chief's AR FAQ The Zigmeister's Review of the New Chief AR You might want to read this regarding the next AR run though: Chief's Latest Hobby
  10. Hah...I have skinny wrists...but not that skinny...and certainly not too skinny to pull off my big hunk of man-steel-Skyland. ...this is more to increase my moxy as Sugar Daddy potential...
  11. I agree. I LOVE that non chrono blue-black one...that is outstanding!! I would also go simple...and I know this will never happen...but I would love to see a Ladies Omega Seamaster...even in quartz...I don't care. Why not a classic sports watch for women??
  12. First time? Those shots are fantastic. Composition, lighting, focus are all excellent. If you want to experiment for artistic fun (but debatable accuracy), you could use a program like Photoshop or whatever and play around with auto-colour correction, auto contrast...you could play around with white balance too. Nice pairing of watches. Great job and keep them coming!!
  13. I'm getting inconsistent results. The auto-winding on 2 of my movements has not been great...but manual winding has been fine...and occasionally an hour gets a missing jump...not sure what's happening here.
  14. The black SMP Chrono isn't bad...but they have the "happy feet" on the crown, and the OMEGA applique has the dash going through the bottom instead of the middle. Other than that...it's not bad.
  15. As an aside...the recommendation by most is that you don't swim with your reps. Certain ones have a solid reputation for being better for swimming than others...but even if a vendor says it has been "waterproofed" don't believe it unless you have had it tested yourself by a qualified pressure tester. Don't feel alone in being unsettled by your first purchase. You've found the most knowledgeable and coolest forum around. Read my Noob Guide linked in my Signature and you'll hit the ground running and armed with the knowledge you need to make the ride fun.
  16. Heh heh...verbal diarrhea they say...but I mean that in the best way.
  17. I was thinking the same thing about Demsey's pic.
  18. You've got the right attitude. The rep journey is all about education. Read my Noob Guide linked in my signature and you'll hit the ground running. Enjoy the reading...you just found yourself the best watch forum around.
  19. At least everyday somebody asks this simple type of question. Buying reps is not as simple as going to the corner store for a jug of milk. There are issues with language, customs, payment, quality control, warranty, etc...so please read the Noob Guide linked in my signature and you'll have most of your questions answered there. Read more, search more, learn more... Read reviews of the watches to find out which version is best for you. Welcome aboard, and buying reps is a journey in knowledge expansion. Enjoy the ride...and share your experiences back with the forum.
  20. It's funny...because it's all grades of poo-pooing those that are a notch or 2 "below" what you're used to. In the general populace, anybody spending $200 on a watch is generally considered one who buys a nice watch as most people wear a $25 plastic digital...or a $100 x-brand metal quartz thing. $300 on a rep is in my books...not an inexpensive watch. It's certainly not an expensive watch...but really, in the LARGER scheme of things (not the top-5%-of the economic population scheme of things)...reps are somewhat expensive. Add in gen parts...servicing...mods, and it's certainly not inconceivable that a high end, well maintained rep be closer to $600 of an investment...add in the fact that most rep enthusiasts have at least 5 watches...you're still talking an investment probably in the >$1,000 range which is still a substantial investment in a luxury item for most folks. Now...to someone buying a gen Omega or Tag or something...they would think $600 is lower end...not cheap...as their's are probably in the $1500 - $4000 range. Then...to someone buying Rollies, UN's, IWCs, etc...they would think Tags and Omegas are cheap wannabe watches as their's are closer to the $7000-$12,000...then to someone buying Dewitt, VC, Patek...they would think those are cheap, etc, etc...it's kind of like looking down on people who buy Porsche Boxsters or BMW 3 series cars...they do so because they want to enter "the club" and can't afford the real GT or M-series...either way, an investment in any new car is a substantial investment to the general populace...regardless of brand. It's all kind of funny. Personally...I look down on everyone equally...if not for their choice in watches (gen/fake)...their bad hygiene, over-weightness, lack of hair, bad teeth, ugly friends, etc.
  21. More of an issue of if you cross the line of tact, class, decorum and grace...don't expect to be treated with that which a civil person should expect. If somebody out of the blue appears to be generally interested in watches and wants more details...I will be honest...but be an idiot about it...I'll be an idiot back...get what you project...that's what I'm saying. I agree fully here. I may have referenced RWG and the rep forums as a point to focus on fakes being the topic of discussion, but I would say there are a lot of people on rep forums who are also TZ and gen forum regulars. Watch forums in general, are populated by a mix of passers-through (looking for that one watch...gen or rep), and the regular contributors who are watch-hores...and not reflective of the general populace of watch buyers.
  22. I would say in the general populace...you're proably one of the few who really likes the way they look. As far as the ACTIVE RWG or other forum populace...I would hazard (with no scientific measure to prove or disprove) that this is the norm and not the exception. Of course the forum(s) are filled with people looking for the "best sub" and will never be heard from again...which is why I qualify that with "ACTIVE" members. To post regularly to me implies a passion for the subject matter.
  23. Feel honoured, Twinfake!!! You just got some outstanding answers from 2 Rollie masters!!
