  1. Crap...I thought it was a smokin' deal...almost as good as the $3000 I paid for my gen quartz Newman 6263 Daytona!!
  2. Francisco...let me be the first to say THANK YOU for this very thorough, and clear breakdown of where there could have been improvements, and why the movement while making some improvement with the skeleton gears, still has similar shortcomings as the old one. I'm guessing, they didn't actually make the skeleton gears for reducing surface area and resultant accumulative friction...but did so to save on metal and cost. Again...thanks.
  3. I never had any problems. The AJS tutorial is based on doing this exact same thing. No problems at all. Any variances that do exist work fine for the movement. You use the stem that comes with the 4813, but install the crown and shave the stem to the proper length. The hole in the case lines up properly. Do your research and you'll find it can be done but is not worthwhile. The dial feet have to be cut, and you have to use special tape to mount the dial. You'll need new hands as well, and you'll have to source a new datewheel. If you want to go 2836...start with a 2836...perhaps an Asian clone of the 2836 and swap to a real Swiss one if you want later.
  4. Congrats. It's always great when the forum helps lead to another happy collector.
  5. Yes...the gen ETA/Valjoux 7750 behaves the same way and has the same restrictions on changing the date. If you search for gen manuals with the 7750 here...I remember sometime back there were posts on this. You can look for info on this with posts by the user The Zigmeisterzumba. Look for any post of his, and then look at the links to his articles in his signature. That's the beauty of the reps. You can spend 15x more...but you'll STILL get the same restrictions and performance as its Asian counterpart. A 2824/2836 movement is nothing like the 7750 and thus has the quick date changeover.
  6. It looks like this movement: which means you can use this guide: to swap in either a DG2813 (replacement low beat movement) or a DG4813 high beat movement, available from here: Ofrei Cousins Jules Borel H.W. Perrin (Canada)...only the DG2813 Somal Canada ...or do as b16 says and return it to the vendor. The issue is...it may take 2 months to get your watch back and $20 in shipping. A movement costs $12 to $20.
  7. That is interesting. It does provide a nice background and the polarizing filter works great.
  8. Search is your friend: Use this "Secs @ 12" string in the Search Function ...reveals THIS THREAD ...which leads you to Francisco's seconds @ 12 breakdown So, the above route is a bit convoluted...but you'll realize how many posts there are on watches with this movement. Search variants to try: secs@12 seconds @ 12 secs at 12 seconds at 12 etc, etc. Welcome aboard...good luck and have fun.
  9. Fantastic story on the 6263...amazing. It's so nice when an heirloom like this can be passed to someone who appreciates it's non-monetary value, and not just its "trade value".
  10. That's my understanding as well...it should NOT have the 007 second hand.
  11. Thanks. I'm still blown away by that bezel insert. I had not seem the bakelite type of aftermarket inserts before you posted that 6542 pic. It looks amazing...pricey...but it really makes the watch. Regarding the CGs...I was a little slow there...forgetting it didn't have one. I just saw the pic and couldn't tell what was on there...forgetting about the year of the watch not having CGs.
  12. ...they just want to marry our daughters and steal our Wu-Tang style... "I think it moved" - George Costanza, Seinfeld
  13. I just don't find their designs that interesting. They are too modern and "fad-ish" to me...looking like something that would not age that gracefully or whose novelty would wear quickly...but hey...that's me. I've never seen them in Canada, nor heard of them before this thread.
  14. It sounds like you're doing everything right with the counter-clockwise turn. It could be a situation where that particular crown and tube threading sucks. You could try an upgrade to gen tube and crown but I'm not sure if they fit. I had to do this with the Omega SMP Chrono which was notorious for premature thread stripping.
  15. In Canada...anybody in the household can sign for the package at door delivery. For pickup at the post office if nobody answers the door attempt, only the person with gov't ID and proof of address WITH the pickup slip notice can pickup.
  16. Tribal did a Sub SEL mod HERE. I'm not sure if it would work with the IIc, as I don't think you can do anything about repositioning the first link to be INSIDE the lughorns like the gen. You can shave the angle down I think...but the first link position I don't think can be modded. Somebody might have a solution...possibly even gen SELs.
  17. Try: www.timeshops.net It's the same site. I think he setup a redirect finally to compensate for his spelling error.
  18. That will be quite something. Besides drilling of lug holes, aging and CG shaping...do you have to do special mods to the case to hold the movement with size issues and stem positioning? What do you use for a movement retainer?
  19. Well...not quite. Usually reps with the SAME movement (i.e. a SWISS Valjoux 7750 vs. Asian A7750) cost about $800+. From the collectors/dealers they often cost more. The Hamilton is a good value rep with a guaranteed Swiss 7750. The ETA 7750 movement alone goes for $450+ CDN depending on quantity and source.
  20. Any of the collectors here will probably be able to find what you want, even if they don't have it pictured on their sites. Who to buy from is a personal experience thing. Every collector has had members here with bad experiences...but overall, they have good reputations which is why they are listed here. I have had great after purchase support from Peter (Watchstation)...and good experiences with Josh, Andrew, Angus and Silix as well...really...I haven't been burned yet. I've had flaky watches that needed sending back...but the dealers have all been supportive and in the end I got what I wanted. Read my review of the 3717 Spitfire...I love it. Welcome aboard and good luck.
  21. Interesting write-up TJ. I thought the polished mid-links were quite a different departure for Rolex...interesting you didn't like it. I'm curious about this one. I tried on the gen and quite liked it...but when it came down to it...it still seemed like another black diver so I didn't jump for it. I like the gloss of the bezel and the larger proportioning of the numbers though.
