It's tricky. Ideally, use a polarizing filter and it will cut out the glare. Short of that, use a watch with AR coating...that helps a lot...otherwise, it's just getting the right angle. Try using Silly Putty or Rodico to help act as a soft clay to keep the watch in the position you need it in...or try finding a matte black card and positioning that in various ways to act as "neutral" reflector...possibly almost right on top of the watch but out of view of the camera.

Go to the main page of RWG after logging in, and look at the available subsections. You'll find what you need there: a subsection for collectors, and one for Reviews (Trade Reviews). Maurice Lacroix's are not that popular here and no high end reps exist. I'm sure there are cheap ones out there...but who knows if they're worth anything. I've never heard of Replica Cafe...use them if you want...it's your money, but users on the forum have experience with the collectors listed. If you can't find info on a site you're considering buying from...think about what that means. Read my Noob Guide. It will help answer a lot of questions for you.

It's been discussed lots before. My feeling is that if you start the lie and insist it's a gen and do get called out...boy do you look like a stump. If you lie once...you'll just have a string of lies to manage and maintain that sooner or later you'll get called out. If people ask if it's real or fake, how I respond depends on who they are. If they're people I actually care about...I tell them it's a rep and try to explain the difference between high end and low end reps, ETA type based movements, serviced, modded, etc and explain the value of the design and mechanics. It's a stupid question to ask if you have no relation with the person so, if it's somebody I don't care about or know...I either ignore them, or just ask them a stupid question back or ask them what they think and leave it at that without an answer. Never wear a rep into an AD and try and pass it off as gen though. Most AD staff don't have any expertise in identifying rep or fake, but it's bad taste and brings un-needed attention to the hobby.

Good stuff. I had not really heard of too many problems with Canada Customs before from stuff from the US. Good to hear things worked out. -

Good suggestion. Even the Steelfish is a good suggestion is well. Spidey's suggestion for a Tag is good as well. Read By-Tor's Aquaracer review...nice piece! -

Dewitts - not popular on the board, but should they be?
Toadtorrent replied to fotoman's topic in General Discussion
They are quite striking. The Catalogue is beautiful...total watch porn...minimal marketing blah-blah-blah to get in the way of the page after page of centerfolds. -
Tough call...pop into an AD if you get a chance and browse around at what makes you go WOW. There are usually a few outstanding pieces in each of the main brands...out of the box, my simple top pics are Omega - UPO, SMP Chrono, Speedy dates...I like the "Lemania" Speedy's even though the subdial spacing is inaccurate IWC - 3717 series, BP 5002, Ingy's, Aquatimer series (all are great I think...but the 2006 CD is a real fave) Rolex - SSD, DSSD, DJs, GMT IIc, I like the green Milgauss too Breitling - Legende, Skyland, Super Avenger, BCE, 6.75, SOSF...lots of great ones Tags - Carrera, Aquaracer Man...too many to list. You have to look at the brand guides and see what tickles your fancy.

Likely the tube/crown will. Be careful with it...essentially, when winding it back in, push it in a bit and turn it COUNTER-clockwise until you feel a "click" with the threads mating...THEN push in and screw as per normal. If you just push in and screw in clockwise, the extra turns with the threads un-engaged accelerate the wear. I did this...and still had problems. The parts aren't all that expensive...I was too chicken to do the mod myself though...wanted to...but backed down and had The Zigmeister do it.

Damn straight! The content here casts shadows over the other boards!! To T and the the admin/mod team...thanks for keeping us on the straight and narrow!!

The issue is...without having someone teach you the "feel" of things...you will make mistakes. And for anybody serious about watchmaking, they would NOT learn on something as complex as an A7750. It's kind of like saying you want to learn about gas powered engines, so you bought a book and want to start with your Porsche Carrera GT. You start small...with a lawn mower maybe...learn the basics of operations with simple no date, non-chrono movements just to get used to working under magnification, etc before you add the complications. Search around for the number of posts for people who have screwed up their movements just trying to get their stems back in. AND...if you don't have spare screw kits...and you lose one...you're pooched. A7750 movements don't have spare parts suppliers. Believe me...I want to learn too...but I'm not about to learn on a $150 movement that I will most guaranteed destroy. I've started on cheap $12 movements to get used to working with tweezers and magnification on simple stuff...and to understand basic operations. I'll dive into a chrono when I have a movement that's died.

That's brutal. Man...wow..super slow!! No strike that I've heard of it. They're unionized and federal agents so if they go on strike...it affects the whole nation. Customs clearance can be slow but from Nov. to Jan...WOW!! -
I think you should ask yourself what you want your collection to be comprised of. If you want a brand based collection...you could get best of breed from the brands. If you want a broad selection of sport divers...do that. If you want to cover "wardrobe/lifestyle" bases...go for a daily beater, sport, dress, casual, funky...etc. The BCE is a beautiful watch...but if you can wear it, the Montbrillant Legende at 47mm does not wear as big as it seems (compared with the Skyland) and I think by picture accounts (not having seen the latter in person other than gen) is a better rep...that would cover the "bling" sporty/dress base. Everyone here seems to go ga-ga over the BP 5002...but I've actually found the 3717-05 more striking with its more dressed up dial (the Spitfire). The UPO is an excellent rep and one most people like here as a daily beater type piece...but I've always been drawn to the SMP Chrono more in the Omega line. The Speedy Dates are also excellent reps and very accurate. Rolex...tough call. I just picked up a SSD v2 and love it. I like it more than my Noobmariner because it's more substantial feeling...but in the big size, the Deep Sea is an awesome looking rep. Good luck!!

Somebody awhile back asked about the tube and crown for this one...and we couldn't get a solid answer on the gen's case number. Nobody has responded that I know of, to queries on the gen's case number...making it harder to order the proper part from Ofrei's. It SEEMS the rep uses the same case as the blue one in my review, but nobody with both that has the opportunity to try swapping gen or rep parts between models has said an answer with proper authority. Sorry...if you find out..let us know. I know the pain...if they only had the proper applique OMEGA logo...it would be great. It's a nice looking piece either way, and really not distinguishable from the gen without close inspection.

Watches with Royal blue dial similar to rollie sub
Toadtorrent replied to blue_sphere's topic in General Discussion
I've got a review of the Omega SMP Chrono. There's links in there to other member posts on the watch. It's an excellent rep...so good in fact I spent the money to have The Zigmeister service it and put in a gen tube and crown. I was very tempted by the blue Laureus Spitfire. I love the caseback on this one...and there's a pic of the blue Navitimer in my Guide on Influencing Beautiful Women (it's a gen mind you). None of these listed are really the same type of Royal Blue...but they might get you in the ball park. -
LUXURY! Ay...we dreamed of having a box...and if only I could have had 4' of snow to call my own. Back in my day, we had to walk to across the country over to the ocean in order to bring back the water in the pockets of our trousers. We'd then spend all night in our wet trousers outside until they froze and we had enough ice that we could make the snow in order to have something to shovel. And did we have shovels? No...we had to use the backs of our hands.
